Funny / The Parent Trap (1961)

Go To

  • Fridge Humor but still: Ms. Inch having trouble with her opening speech. She's got the thing on cuecards and has presumably given the exact same speech every year for decades, but still can't remember it without help.
    • It goes up to eleven when she says her name, then has to consult the cards to make sure that really is her name.
  • Ms. Inch holds a cake over her head during the food fight, only to stick it to a carved bird above her. She pulls down an empty plate, then quizzically looks up. Cue cake splat.
  • The little girl who has somehow caught a skunk and now wants to take it home as a pet.
  • Susan-as-Sharon notices that her grandfather smells of peppermint and pipe tobacco.
Charles: Well, I tell you what. I use the peppermint for my indigestion, and the tobacco... [clears his throat, looking around] ...to make your grandmother mad.
  • Sharon (as Susan) has only had one conversation with Verbena, and has immediately adopted her mannerisms for the conversation with Vikki at the lakeshore.
  • Reverend Mosby after meeting Maggie:
Rev. Mosby: Delightful woman! Charming! It's amazing he ever let her slip away! [cue Vicky and her mother turning around and giving him twin death glares]
  • Vikki screaming and losing it after seeing two baby bears licking her honey covered feet.
  • Sharon (as Susan) is idly playing the piano while Mitch tries to tell her that he's engaged. Mitch is distracted and rambles a bit, then realizes that his daughter is playing quite well for someone who doesn't know how. Sharon immediately downgrades her playing ability to try and cover, saying that she learned at camp. Yeah, nice try.
  • After Susan and Maggie arrive, Mitch goes off on Susan, who doesn't know what he's talking about, but tries to act like she does. Then he directs her to stay with the guests and play hostess while he showers, but then Sharon passes by his room wearing a different outfit and informs him that there are people downstairs. He gives a distracted "Yeah, I know," she leaves, and then he does a Double Take. He goes into his bathroom and finds a bra hanging on the shower door, one neither of his daughters would fill out. His WTF look is priceless.
  • Maggie trolling Mitch, Vicky, and Edna is both awesome and hilarious, starting with when she pretends to mistake Edna for Vicky. Cue Maggie being warm, charming, and humorous as she gets in one passive-aggressive dig after another.
  • Maggie running around Mitch's ranch in nothing but his bathrobe- and acting like it's the most natural thing in the world.
  • As listed on the Trivia page the movie ran through several names before The Parent Trap was settled on. And the Sherman Brothers had to write a possible theme song for each and every one. They perform snippets of the rejects in a DVD featurette, but odds are the full versions will never see the light of day.
