• Hudner promises Daisy that he'll look after Jesse.
  Daisy: I can't protect him anymore. So I need you to be there for my Jesse. Okay?"
  Hudner: Okay.
• After Mohring's death, Cevoli notes that many would say that exactly such a risk is what they all signed up for, and that it simply isn't true. Their friend is dead, and they need to grieve. Cevoli, a WWII veteran, makes it clear he speaks from experience.
  • Cevoli in general is a consistently warm and nurturing leader to his men. Even when he makes it clear that they must train extensively to be prepared for war when it comes, he reminds Hudner that he shouldn't let conflict define him. War is endless, but what matters is being there for your men every day.
• After Jesse is shot down, Hudner ditches his plane to come to his aid. When the call goes out for a helicopter to go extract them, the helicopter commander insists that it's getting too dark and his helos can't fly at night, but regardless, Alabama Ward volunteers to go out anyways when he hears his friend from flying school needs help.
