Heartwarming / Bruce Almighty

Go To

  • After Bruce is fired, he sees the thugs harassing the homeless guy and tells them to leave the man alone. Once they move away, he asks the man if he's all right. It's one of the first signs in the film that Bruce isn't a complete jerk.
  • The whole I Want My Beloved to Be Happy scene.
God: Grace. You want her back?
Bruce: ...No. I want her to be happy, no matter what that means. I want her to find someone who will treat her with all the love she deserved from me. I want her to meet someone who will see her always as I do now, through Your eyes.
    God: Now THAT'S a prayer.
    Bruce: Yeah?
God: Yeah. It's good. [together, grinning] It's gooooood. I'll get right on that.
    • And he gets on it by reviving Bruce so he can be with Grace again.
  • God's A World Half Full summation.
God: Parting your soup is not a miracle, Bruce, it's a magic trick. A single mom who's working two jobs, and still finds time to take her kid to soccer practice, that's a miracle. A teenager who says "no" to drugs and "yes" to an education, that's a miracle. People want Me to do everything for them, but what they don't realize is, they have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle.
  • When Bruce goes to see Evan after the above talk with God, Evan is preparing himself for Bruce to mock him and simply tells him to take his best shot. However, Bruce admits how much of a jerk he's been and that the anchor position is Evan's and sincerely congratulates him for earning it and offers his hand. While Evan seems like he still thinks it a trick, he does accept the handshake with a "Thanks, Bruce" that sounds genuinely touched by the sentiment.
    • The deleted scene mentioned on the main page alters this scene by showing that Evan's hair and back of his head is still scorched. When Bruce goes to leave, he looks back with a smile and says, "Your hair's coming back in nicely." Evan believes this was the stab at him that he was waiting for, but is then surprised to see his hair has fully grown back out and smiles. Despite the Nightmare Fuel of the fire and nosebleed scene, this gesture is heartwarming indeed, showing Bruce has learned humility and forgiveness.
  • The ending after Bruce gets out of the hospital. Bruce seems to have accepted his life and his report sounds considerably happier than the start of the movie.
    • Especially this line:
Bruce: And now, I'd like you all to say hello to the future Mrs. Exclusive, Grace Connolly.
  • It's a fairly lowkey moment, but amidst Bruce complaining about Evan to Jack and wondering if perhaps he should be more like his rival. Jack tells him flat out that even if he wanted to be like Evan, he can't.
Bruce: Maybe I should be more like Evan.
Jack: You don't wanna be like Evan, Evan's an asshole.
Bruce: Well, I can be an asshole.
    Jack: No Bruce, you can't.
  • Grace's prayers tend to focus on her loved ones, especially Bruce, rather than herself.
  • Toward the end of the movie, Bruce spots a man who is having car troubles while in the middle of a traffic jam. Inspired by God's previous words about being the miracle, Bruce gets out to help him push his car onto a side street.
