  • The family struggle with the cost of caring for JJ. Wouldn’t it make sense for them to move to Maya’s home country England, where healthcare would be free?
    • Well, most likely, no. A certain range of services would be free, but the family would have to choose from among the suite of services available to them for free if they don't want to pay for any services out of pocket. Socializing services limits the ability of private providers to attract paid customers, which limits the ability of private providers to provide services, which limits the availability of private providers, leading to said providers having to raise prices in order to stay afloat. Basically, if the family found they were dissatisfied with NHS healthcare and sought additional services from a private provider, the services of said provider would at least theoretically be much more expensive than if the same happened in California, depending on the scope of California's Healthcare Marketplace.
