Headscratchers / Lord of War

  • Thrice during the movie Yuri has one of his own guns pointed at him. The second time he is shot by a drug dealer he is selling to. So, why does he continue to load these guns before selling them?
    • Because we can all agree; 'Batteries not included' is bullshit.
      • Well, yeah, but couldn't he just leave them outside the guns? Sold together, packaged separately? It'd give him a few precious minutes to escape.
      • The kind of person Yuri deals with generally doesn't take well to receiving a no, so it would not significantly reduce the risk of getting shot if he refused to load the weapon for a trial run, especially since usually said people are accompanied by very much armed bodyguards. In the end, his best choice is playing along as nicely as he can.
      • To be fair, the third time this happens, Andre Baptiste is shown loading the gun Yuri was selling him.
      • I think the better question is why he doesn't hire private security to protect him considering how dangerous his clients usually are.
      • Most likely because he doesn't want his clients to see him as a threat. That and because bodyguards cost money, which Yuri had little of in his early career. And even when his business took off, he's shown to be a cheapskate by always hiring the lowest bidder for his henchmen. Plus, by the time he got rich, he was well connected enough that he didn't actually need bodyguards. After all, no matter how sadistic or bloodthirsty a warlord is, they're not going to get any weapons if they keep killing the dealers.
