How did Joachim find out about the conquistadors?
  • How did Prince Joachim know where the conquistadors were imprisoned? Francisco trapped them on his own with no intention of ever releasing them.
    • The conquistadors were not the only expedition seeking the Moon's Tears. It's likely that in the centuries since then one expedition or another stumbled upon the pit and brought back stories of the strange, carved statues they saw there. This might even have been what convinced Joachim that there was more to the legends than fantasy.
      • We don't know exactly how many copies/versions of the map Frank drafted, one could just as easily have found its way into Germany as it had into London; the detail could have piqued Joachim's interest.
    • Joachim himself actually answers this one; when he first enters the cave where the conquistadors were trapped, he notes that he had heard stories about the cave where the conquistadors were trapped in punishment for trying to steal the Tears of the Moon. He didn't know the full story, but he had enough context clues from this and possibly notes from other expeditions to pinpoint their location.

    One curse fits all?
  • If all the conquistadors, including Frank, were hit by the curse, then when Frank returned to normal shouldn't they all be returned to normal?
    • Based on what we see, the petals are a kind of medicine which requires each afflicted person to take one to be cured. It didn't break the curse as a whole, it just cured Frank of it.

How much can you really tame a tiger?
  • Would people in the Victorian era really know how to tame a tiger so they're not dangerous in crowded spaces like that? Most animals who can be tamed, still can be upset by unpredictable and chaotic environments. This makes having him launch an attack in a bar a pretty risky gambit.

How does Frank know what a submarine is?
  • He's been living on the Amazon with almost no technology for a few hundred years, and doesn't know what a car is or how to drive one, but he somehow seems to know what a submarine is, since he recognises the one Joachim brings and even calls it out by name: "Who brings a submarine to the Amazon?"
    • 20000 Leagues Under the Sea was published in 1872. It's certainly possible that a copy has made its way into the town and Frank has read it.
