Asami is not a Yakuza
- People keep calling him that, probably believing that "Yakuza" translates to "criminal" in Japanese which it doesn't. To be a Yakuza you need to be a part of Yakuza group and in this specific case the lack of any proof of Asami being a part of such a group is in fact dead certain evidence that he isn't.
- Just like you don't have to be in the Italian Mafia if you are a criminal in Italy, you don't have to be a Yakuza to be a criminal in Japan. Asami is a top-notch criminal who might even work FOR the Yakuza and do business with them, but he is obviously and clearly not a Yakuza himself.
- This may be a case of Early-Installment Weirdness because Asami is in fact referred to as a Yakuza in earlier chapters. Then the label disappears entirely.
Asami and Akihito dead at the end of Manga Volume 1
- At the end of Manga Volume 1 Fei Long aims 3 shots at the completely unexpecting Asami and Akihito, piercing the coat Asami had put around Akihito's shoulders ever so slightly he does not hurt the boy. Given the fact that Fei Long is a perfect shot, he could have easily murdered both men without them even knowing. Asami doesn't draw his gun before the 3 bullets hit their mark. So Asami and Akihito live to tell their tale of becoming a couple by the grace of Fei Long. If he had pulled through, that would have been it. The End.
- If Fei Long wanted either Asami or Akihito dead, then he would have killed them. He missed on purpose because he wasn’t trying to kill them.
