Funny / Worst Cooks in America

Go To

Since this show is about people who are, quite literally, the absolute WORST cooks in America, it only stands to reason that things can get funny, right? Well...

  • Whenever there's a first-time judge alongside Anne (i.e., Alton Brown in Season 18, Alex Guarnaschelli in Season 20), they just watch in horror as the contestants attempt to cook while Anne stands by in mild amusement.
  • Season 4's first episode has a woman named Tamara...who uses actual canned dog food as a 'favorite ingredient'. Anne's horrified 'what?' and Bobby hiding behind his napkin kinda make this known that they are just flummoxed by it.
  • In season 3, Kelli has a fear of seafood and has a problem with cleaning them out. This also happened with Jenni Farley (aka, "JWoww") and Kendra Wilkinson from Season 7 (the first "Celebrity Edition" of the show)—Anne expressed surprise at his, pointing how Jenni and Kendra had both given birth to babies, which Anne points out is probably a lot more gross than handling fish and seafood. Also, in the final episode of Season 7, when Jenni and Kendra are preparing their final meals, the original idea for Jenni's main course was for her to cook some lobster (inspired by Jenni's then-fiancĂ©, Roger Mathews, who's originally from Maine), but Jenni turned out to be so against it that she actually started crying. They decided against making lobster, and Anne commented, "Jenni's far more squeamish than I thought she'd be."
  • In the first episode of Season 5, it's kind of funny to see how Anne's obviously still kind of bitter about Bobby beating her in the previous season—he ends up beating her again in Season 5 (doubling as a Moment of Awesome). It should be noted that Bobby Flay is currently one of two chefs to actually beat Anne Burrell (the other chef is Rachel Ray, who beat her in Seasons 9 and 11). Aside from that, Anne has won every single season of Worst Cooks in America.
  • In Season 5, during the second-to-last episode, when close family/friends come on to see how much the contestants have improved, Amber's oldest daughter came on to see her. After tasting the dishes and learning who made which dish, Amber's daughter commented that her mom's greatly improved cooking skills might help her get a boyfriend (Amber's raising four kids as a single parent)—Amber was a little embarrassed to hear her daughter say that, although Danny (the radiologist on the blue team) seemed to find it funny. In an episode of Chopped where all the contestants were people who had competed on Worst Cooks in America, Amber admitted at the end of the first round (when the contestants are presenting their appetizers) that she does, in fact, have a new boyfriend.
  • In kind of a Black Comedy way, Chanda from Season 8 admits that she thinks that she may have actually killed a relative of hers with her cooking — she explains that she once made a birthday cake for her great-aunt's 91st birthday, but the great-aunt ended up passing away the next day.
  • In the second Celebrity Edition, when the celebrities are making their introduction dishes in the first episode of the season, Loni Love is making some kind of pasta dish, and when she checks to make sure that the pasta is fully cooked, she throws it at the wall and sees if it sticks to it. Loni explains that if pasta sticks to the wall, that means it's done cooking—Rachel Ray confirms that there is actually some truth behind that.
    • Frank does the same thing in season 14's baseline challenge. He leaves the spaghetti noodle stuck to the wall for the rest of the cook.
  • In the third Celebrity Edition, one of the challenges is to make a grilled chicken dish. They're shown how to prepare the chicken but aren't told that they'd have chickens that still have heads and feet on them. Their grossed out and horrified reactions to the latter is priceless. Also during that challenge, Carmen Electra accidentally unleashes a huge plume of fire in an attempt to make a sauce for her dish.
  • In season 14, Copan's steak goes up in flames within seconds of making it onto the grill.
Anne Burrell: That takes some talent, to set something on fire when there's no open flame.
  • The 2020 season has Alton Brown, who is usually locked into some form of Sarcasm Mode. He spent the first episode coming up with numerous ways to say This Is Gonna Suck when it came to watching the hapless recruits try and cook.
Someone pinch me. Nope. I'm awake, but I'm having a nightmare..."
