  • The launch trailer is something to behold in how it goes on to present the game to players, with a pretty epic buildup to it... only for the punchline to hit and the rousing music to immediately stop.
    WE'VE HEARD YOUR FEEDBACK
    YES... ALL OF IT
WE NOW HAVE A BOLD NEW DIRECTION FOR THE FUTURE OF
    SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
    WE'RE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE
[Cut to Sonic lying under a spotlight in the memetic Family Guy death pose]
    HE'S DEAD
  • The mere fact that a game titled The Murder Of Sonic the Hedgehog is both real and officially published by SEGA.
  • You choose your name for the player character in the beginning. However, if you choose the name of one of the characters in the story, such as Tails, the player character says "Like...The Tails? Wouldn't that be cool, but no?" and forces you to choose another name. This includes choosing the name Amy, indicating either Amy is as unusual a name as Sonic would be in real life, or Amy is just THAT famous.
    • Also, as a result of it only being for the character names in the story, you can get away with naming your character almost anything else, such as Cream, Silver, Charmy etc. Apparently, Charmy isn't as well known as the rest of the Chaotix. Even Miles works, suggesting Tails' real name isn't common knowledge either. Interestingly enough, however, putting in Omega's name will elicit the same result as those who are in the game, despite Omega not appearing or even being mentioned, implying that the robot's made a reputation for himself.
      • However, you cannot name yourself Chris Thorndyke from Sonic X, as the player character will respond "I don't think I could show my face around here again if I wrote that." Although unintentional as a result of the Scunthorpe Problem (the last 4 letters of his name), it appears Sega knows about Chris' negative-to-polarizing reception.
    • Even funnier? Try putting Yagami's name. Yes, THAT Yagami. It's hilarious to see how out of character Kamurocho's favorite detective becomes if you name the player character that and him reacting to the Sonic cast's eccentricities is almost in-character for him.
    • Curiously, you can't name your character Eggman, but you can name him Robotnik. Hmmmm....
  • The player character is very much Locked Out of the Loop regarding Sonic's crew and their adventures, which makes for a refreshing change of pace to experience the reactions of these things from an outsider's perspective. This includes elements like not realizing who Sonic looks like (despite being a well-renowned hero), or how Blaze is an interdimensional princess. Their reactions and Inner Monologues give Phoenix Wright or Takayuki Yagami a run for their money in the First-Person Smartass department.
  • The menu options on the Mirage Express include: Chili Dogs, Ramen, and Chicken Cordon Bleu. And they only require a microwave to make according to both the player and conductor.
    • In a similar vein to the Attorney's badge from Ace Attorney, the menu item is always in the player's inventory and can be presented to any character, along with asking the guests if they want something to eat.
  • The scene with gathering the tickets are all likely to elicit a chuckle, with the player having to deal with the much more eccentric game cast. There's Knuckles having apparently crinkled his ticket in his fist to Blaze casually revealing that she's a princess from an alternate dimension.
    • When Rouge hands in her ticket, the conductor is perceptive enough to see that she tried to sneak a twenty dollar bill right out of his pocket and kindly asks for it back. The conductor, Rouge, and player all are silent for a brief moment before she gives it back stating it "must have slipped out." The player comments to themself that they are probably not the best judge of character.
      • Before this incident, Knuckles can be heard admonishing Rouge for attempting to steal from the train station's gift shop. She defends herself by saying it was a pen and no one would miss a "teeny tiny pen." It's also this moment that makes the player question what kind of crazy characters that they got stuck with.
    • Vector somehow lost his ticket while boarding, managing to get it mixed up inside the napkin tray. He even tries to cover this blunder once he boards when asked for his ticket by the conductor. Once the player does find the ticket, they're glad no one has used it as a napkin yet.
      • Once the conductor and the player return the ticket to Vector, the crocodile is relieved, worried that they'd have to kick him out of the train. The conductor laughs, joking that the player would have their hands full trying to do so, with Vector adding that he'd put up quite the fight before he'd be kicked out. The player is the only one not amused with the conductor's jape.
  • The very first thing that Sonic does once he steps on the train? Ask for a chili dog. Amy however is annoyed at him for getting food before the party has even started, asking they wait till they had her birthday cake first. It then turns out that Sonic forgot his wallet, so he wouldn't have been able to pay for the dog anyways, along with him also being responsible for getting Amy's Birthday cake, which he forgot to do before arriving.
  • Tails and Amy are the first ones to discover that Sonic has been "murdered". Amy's following reaction is less disturbed and more cheerful that the game is going off without a hitch, even enthusiastically declaring that someone had murdered her "darling Sonic," even though the player suspects that something is amiss.
  • Tails' disturbed dialogue portrait looks suspiciously like the memetic panel from Tails Gets Trolled, and after the initial shock of finding Sonic sprawled on the floor, comes off as him comically overreacting to everything.
    • This portrait is also used as Tails' reaction to the player explaining the full definition of the Sunk Cost Fallacy, along with the Big Chao Band's music.
  • Tails' comment that Sonic likes to take naps in weird places is extra funny if you grew up watching the Sonic X anime. As he spent about a third of the first couple seasons napping in random places around Chris' house.
  • On the Saloon car, you can see a wanted poster for Omochao, which one might assume is just a joke about them being an Annoying Video Game Helper. If you click on it, Tails reveals they're wanted for Medical Malpractice! It's never elaborated on beyond than that.
  • The first time the player and Tails run into Knuckles in the Saloon car, it's apparent that he's been speaking with a cowboy-esque voice to play along with Amy's party, only dropping it once Amy had left and likely out of earshot. He later reveals he used that accent while talking with Shadow and Rouge when they stopped by the Saloon.
  • Talking to Knuckles gives two dialogue options; one where the player compliments his hat and another where the player begs Knuckles not to beat him up.
    Knuckles: No promises.
Tails: Knuckles, would you ever fight me?
Knuckles: No, you bruise too easily. Wouldn't be fun.
Player: I bruise easily too, guess I wouldn't be fun to fight either.
    Knuckles: No, I'd fight you.
Tails: Sorry, [Player], I wish you luck.
Player: He's not ACTUALLY going to fight me! ...right?
  • It turns out, Vector and Knuckles competed against each other in Super Monkey Ball, but had trouble figuring out how the machine worked. Shadow, of all hedgehogs, is the one to teach them how to play, and even got the high-score on the arcade machine. Knuckles immediately destroyed the machine in an attempt to erase any evidence of his loss against them both before Tails and the player arrived in the Saloon. Vector later brags about how he was able to beat Knuckles at Super Monkey Ball by claiming that "Crocs are natural gamers."
  • Espio and Vector are in the roles as a Poet and Butcher respectively. While Vector isn't too different from normal (aside from him asking if they need any meat chopped up every few minutes), Espio attempts to stuff a poem within any conversation he has with Tails and the player. It turns out he's not very good at writing poems.
    • After Espio has been quizzed on the book he claims to have read, the player can joke that he completely failed. Espio responds with an insulting limerick.
I completed your test with ease,
All my efforts were only to please.
But you joked and you japed,
      Said no to my face,
Now I wish you were riddled with fleas.
    • Becomes a Brick Joke in the ending, where Espio's last line is a poem, really stretching his rhyming muscles to make it work.
      I admire your tenacity.
May you never lose your vivacity.
      Happy Birthday to Amy.
      And her sparkling personacity.
      • The player character then also follows this up with an internal comment about how they're not smart enough to know if personacity is actually a word.
  • Speaking of Espio, at one point Knuckles will point out how how fast Espio can read a book... by recalling a time where Espio speedread the same book Knuckles was reading purely to spoil him on the ending.
  • One of the options that you can suggest during the heist is tell the Chao guard you are Blaze's spouse. Blaze seemingly takes the player up on the offer, asking about your bloodline and if your ancestors had committed any war crimes, to which the player backs down from the option immediately. Blaze even calls the player out for giving up too soon.
  • Suggesting that Tails go distract the chao guard elicits a Crush Blush and an anxious agreement, which prompts Blaze to shoot the idea down immediately.
Tails: S-sure, I could be the distraction!
Blaze: I don't like the way he said that. Veto.
  • The option to distract the guard is telling them there's a drink without a coaster. Tails and Blaze both agree that would be vile enough to work. Blaze even states she would never allow such a thing to happen in her kingdom.
  • Picking the option to tie up the robot hands reveals Blaze and Rouge don't know how to tie knots while the player admits they can tie knots, but they have to do a song to do it, so Tails has to veto the idea.
  • The appearance of what appears to be a bomb in a heist sequence brings up a whole wall of nonsensical options for disarming it, including tossing it away, eating it, sending it down with the elevator, asking it to stop, or rocking it to sleep. The protagonist can ask Tails to blow wind into it, for Blaze to set it aflame, or even for Rouge to kiss it. Upon picking the latter choice, you actually get to hear her kiss!
  • You can play the slot machine in the casino area over and over to no avail until Tails asks the protagonist if they ever heard about the Sunk Cost Fallacy (which the protagonist will natter off its entire definition in full) and then just walks off until you're done. If you ask Blaze about it, she casually mentions that she just made a fortune off of it.
  • Tails' absolutely horrified reaction at asking the Chao band to play a "ditty", and the game's refusal to let you go through with that option therein, is just a hilarious case of Noodle Implements.
  • Shadow’s explanation of his plan to keep Amy away while he tried to buy her concert tickets to make up for a lack of a gift is sweet, but hearing him say the phrase “Worried for my social status” is nothing short of hilarious. It's plainly obvious it's just his way of avoiding having to admit that he actually cares about Amy.
  • While in the lounge, you can try to take Shadow's order, and he'll refuse food but does ask about coffee.
Shadow: A coffee on a train...there's no better combination.
Tails: Some marshmallows would make it perfect!
    Shadow: ...sure.
Player: [thinking] It took every muscle in his body to agree with Tails.
  • When inspecting the Conductor Car's microphone, the options you get are "start beatboxing" and "If you can hear this, your armpits stink". Choosing the former makes the protagonist actually start beatboxing into the microphone, complete with the sound of beatboxing!
  • Amy's portrait when she finds out Sonic is actually hurt. While it could potentially be Nightmare Fuel, due to the dark shadows over one of her eyes and looks like she might actually be planning a real murder, it's a little bit offset by the little cake on her head.
  • Dr. Eggman revealing himself near the endgame is a little chilling. However, his reactions to the protagonist along with some of his quotes can be rather amusing, as well as Sonic's unfazed reaction to the doctor being somewhat responsible.
Eggman: [after you address him for the first time] Who the heck are you? Don't talk to me.
  • After the entire train has been shut down and everyone managed to get off at the station safely, the gang still note they had a fun time. Sonic still calls Espio out for his use of a blowdart, though the chameleon counters that it was likely the only way that he would have been able to catch the speedster.
  • The final scene of the game is Dr. Eggman waiting around for the train to arrive. He's wearing a party hat, along with Sage, Metal Sonic (who are also wearing "Let's Go Dad" t-shirts), Orbot, and Cubot. After he realizes his latest plan also went off the rails, the latter two try to cheer Eggman up by adding some toys to his bath (specifically, the Happy Sonic and Angry Eggman-themed rubber duckies). After Eggman chooses the "angry" option, Cubot compliments on his choice, with Eggman just yelling at them to shut up.
Eggman: ...That train's never making it here, is it?
