Funny / Persona 5 Tactica

  • Lavenza will first tell Joker that she will call for him when the Velvet Room is ready, which unlocks the fusion mechanic, and then boots Joker out to continue with the game. However, if the player enters the Velvet Room before Fusion is ready, it can yield some special dialogue where Lavenza will ask Joker to come back later when she has figured everything out. The funny part comes from the player doing this multiple times, especially in a row, where Joker will keep entering, only for Lavenza to politely ask each time for him to leave. With each visit (up to five), Lavenza slowly loses her composure, asking if this is some sort of joke, and eventually channeling both Justine and Caroline from behind a welding mask to berate Joker for his impatience, yelling at him to "get the hell out!" If the player decides to visit the Velvet Room a sixth time before it is ready, Lavenza will simply put on her welding mask and slowly move towards Joker, likely with a Death Glare for not heeding her instructions until Joker notes in his Internal Monologue to come back later, with this exchange being repeated for any subsequent visits afterwards.
  • Fusion Accidents return in fine form, with the machinery Lavenza is using to help blacksmith suddenly freezing, with her confusedly poking it with her hammer - causing the smelted Persona metal to suddenly explode, leaving her soot-covered with a Funny Afro before the new Persona's cog bounces off her head. She even keeps the afro until your next fusion.
  • Erina is a goldmine of comically-serious dialogue:
    • Calling Morgana "catfish-face" dead-seriously during her Come with Me If You Want to Live introduction.
    • Describing the final plan to take down Marie as "Operation Sneaky, Sneaky, Bang, Bang", without a hint of irony.
Futaba: I hope the plan's better than the name!
  • In one of the optional social events, Joker is asked about what his ideal wedding would be and with whom. Morgana excluded, you are then given the option to choose any of the main Phantom Thieves, even the guys, and yes, all of them have a full scene in Joker's mind. Highlights include Yusuke talking about having kids and Joker still wearing his school uniform in each clip. Even better is that the Imagine Spots are close to accurate of what's on the minds of the characters, like Ryuji's discussions on whether Joker is into one-ply or double toilet paper.
  • One event has the team suggests places that Erina can hang out together with the Thieves with once things are over, with one of the choices that Joker can suggest is the Akihabara Maid Cafe. The kicker is that when Haru points out that they visit those places infrequently, especially the maid cafe, Joker looks away. It's likely a jab to how players could often visit there to increase one of Joker's social stats once it's unlocked in the original P5 and in Royal.
  • One possible event found in the hideout is Morgana, Haru, and Toshiro playing Old Maid. They always take the joker card from the previous player, much to their own shock and the latter's amusement.
  • Knocking an enemy back when one of your party members is on the square nearest it results in them getting sent flying with your target, with some of their responses being extremely amusing. Some of the best examples are Akechi yelling at you and calling you an idiot (using his "Black Mask" speech tone, nonetheless), Makoto saying "Are you serious?" in an irritated voice, and Morgana loudly asking you where you're aiming. What makes it even funnier is that Futaba doesn't acknowledge your mistake at all and still congratulates you for landing a shot.
  • Early in the game when you have to rescue the brainwashed Ryuji and Haru, Ann says they'd better not "pop up like Ah ha ha ha!" Cue them doing Marie's Noblewoman's Laugh only a few seconds later. Futaba ends up lampshading this.
  • Erina acts as a decoy during the first Kingdom and her Bad "Bad Acting" is absolutely hilarious, complete with exaggerated hopping and hand waving. It really has to be seen to be believed.
  • When encountering the creepy giant Toshiro teddy bear in Marie's mansion, Makoto gets so spooked by it speaking that she grabs Morgana and hugs him tight... and he promptly protests about the fact that Makoto's costume has spikes that are puncturing him.
  • Ann's acting returns in one variant of the sake-house operation, where her bad performance (though slightly improved from the original game) is salvaged by Yusuke passing it off as her bring drunk... which works, until Ann goes along with it and starts trying to act drunk.
  • The hideout conversation "We Love Haiku" features Yoshiki's haiku recital TV show that was mentioned when he decides to spare the PTs. The poem read is by "Mr. Hopelessly in Love with Lord Yoshiki" and goes... "Oh Lord Yoshiki. My dearest Lord Yoshiki. Oh Lord Yoshiki." Yoshiki then admonishes him for Rhyming with Itself, even though (as the PTs point out) that's not how haiku works. The party then comes up with their own haiku, complete with kabuki-esque musical sting. Morgana composes two when everyone else is out of earshot, both getting their own sting. The PTs make Ryuji and Joker do one as well, with Joker being able to mess up Ryuji by using a sentence that doesn't follow the haiku's structure.
  • When Lavenza picks up the Phantom Thieves by her train, Futaba and Ann then egg Toshiro on to do the classic "Choo-choo!" since Lavenza is driving a steam train. When Toshiro points out that's not how trains actually sound like, Erina follows up by joyously yelling "choo-choo!" anyways. As Lavenza points out the interesting cast of characters they have, Joker can prompt her if she wants to chat with them, which has her note this is what they call "hanging with the homies."
    • Before the Phantom Thieves board the Velvet Train, Yusuke asks if she minds if he takes the time to sketch the whole train in its entirety, despite how time is of the essence and they need to stop Salmael. She says she does mind, and asks everyone to board immediately, clearly in a hurry as she is unsure how long that the Velvet Room will remain as a train.
    • As Lavenza provides an Exposition Dump about Salmael's origins, Erina attempts to summarize and simplify things by drawing them out and they're...unique, to say the least.
Yusuke: Hmmm. I'm very taken by this drawing here. Could I give my opinion on it?
Makoto: Maybe leave that for later...
      • Yusuke then follows up with his own summary drawings about Erina and Toshiro's relationship and how they fought off Salmael's influence, which are more detailed, though they show Erina with a scowl and Toshiro with a comically scared face.
    • Lavenza then tells the Phantom Thieves they will be arriving momentarily. As in — very quickly without much warning and having her essentially crash into their destination. When Lavenza mentions they're arrived safely and asks everyone to watch their step, Ann complains how that could be considered safe, while Yusuke, Futaba, and Toshiro are all sick after that experience.
    • When Salmael's Kingdom starts collapsing after his defeat, Morgana asks Lavenza to get everyone out immediately, which she takes a moment to recite the standard safety procedures before taking off. When Ann tells her to hurry up and skip that part, Lavenza laments that she wanted to say the whole thing at least once, before getting everyone out at super express speed, causing everyone to scream again.
  • In Repaint Your Heart, after Luca recounts how she used to sort through trash for things to sell and eat, one of Joker's responses can be to order Akechi to dig through the garbage they find, and Akechi will pretend not to hear him. Joker can then keep pressing Akechi to do it and, depending on the response, the detective may come up with a fake excuse to leave or start laughing while wearing an unsmile.
    Joker: Go for it, Akechi.
Akechi: Sorry, what was that? I missed it.
    Joker: It's showtime.
    Akechi: Hahaha…
Kasumi: Akechi-san, you may be laughing, but your eyes sure aren't!
  • Another Talk Event in Repaint Your Heart has the group discussing Akechi's investigation of Guernica in the real world, along with the potential scenario where he may end up arresting her. Near the end of this bittersweet conversation, we get a heartwarming moment where Akechi reaffirms his intention to help save Guernica out of respect for Joker's authority as the leader of the Phantom Thieves... which Joker can utterly ruin by acting surprised that Akechi considers himself part of the Phantom Thieves. Akechi's reaction is priceless.
Akechi: After all, as a member of the Phantom Thieves, I need to respect my leader's commands.
Joker: Wait, you're a phantom thief?
    Akechi: [shocked] ...Yes.
    Kasumi: Hmm? What's with Akechi-san?
Akechi: ...Haha! Goodness, you truly are the joker of the bunch. You know, kidding around too much can turn out poorly for one's health.
Kasumi: Oh, that was a joke! You really got me there.
