Funny / Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth

Go To

General

  • The game's title screen features all the mascots running all over at random intervals. When Teddie runs across the screen, he trips and gets annoyed.
  • In the opening movie, Lotus Juice's lyrics are synched with Kamoshidaman making hand gestures of someone who is trying too hard to be involved with the hip-hop scene. The sheer absurdity of it brings barrels of laughs.
  • In the previous game, Theodore had to wear a girly apron. Here, Elizabeth makes him wear a popcorn costume, and he nearly flies away with balloons a couple of times when he first shows it off. Margaret and Elizabeth also poke fun at him by joking they want to eat popcorn.
  • Futaba enjoys tricking Aigis into acting in her mannerisms, and she was suggestible enough to imitate all of them without knowing that they are impolite to begin with, even after she returns to the real world.
  • Some of the unison attacks are hilarious:
    • Junpei, Yosuke, and Ryuji's Unison involves them charging at the enemy but being the resident Butt Monkeys of their respective teams, the three end up tumbling and roll into the enemy like a ring-wheel instead. The kicker is that the first of the three to trip and cause this chain reaction in the first place is Yosuke. He can't even catch a break when next to fellow Butt Monkies!
    • In Yusuke, Akihiko, and Shinjiro's Unison, Yusuke gets hungry, so Akihiko has to give him protein shakes while Shinjiro gives him an onigiri.
    • The Unison for Koromaru, Teddie and Morgana sees Teddie driving the Morganamobile into enemies with Koromaru riding on top - at least until Teddie decides to stick his head out the window and gets stuck, causing them to go off-course, with Morgana screaming at him all the way. And Koromaru jumps off and ditches them to their crash.
  • Fusion Accidents. Caroline and Justine set up the projectors, overlap the images, and begin to do their dance... and then Caroline sends Justine spinning into Margaret. Popcorn goes flying, and Margaret ends up face-down with Justine on her back and her soda cup on her head. After letting Caroline know that she's furious, Margaret picks up Justine by her collar and drops her next to Caroline, where they finish posing and complete the fusion.
  • If Teddie participates in a lethal All-Out Attack, he will burn his fur while everyone is walking away from the explosion.
  • As the groups discuss the fact they're from three different times, Ann comments that they can't quite remember what year they're from. The comedy sets in with the fact it's keeping in line with their game not having a specified year.
  • The central hub scenes:
    • After the P4 cast joins the team in the first half of Junessic Land, one of the hub scenes available consists of Kanji Glomping the ever-loving death out of Morgana while the latter yells at him, while in the background, Yusuke is drawing Teddie who's holding a pose with a blank-eyed stare.
    • One scene after the cast of P4 joins has Yukiko talking about how hard she laughed while seeing "One Missed Text." For those who took her to see it, "One Missed Text" is apparently a horror film.
    • After the P3 cast joins the team in the first half of A.I.G.I.S., one hub scene has Akihiko giving Yusuke a protein bar, which the latter immediately scarfs down after being amazed at its taste.
    • When Koromaru first joins the team, there's a hub scene where the girls are lovingly petting Koromaru… while Teddie seethes in the background.
    • Once you get to the third level of the fourth labyrinth, one hub scene includes Koromaru chasing Teddie again, just like in the first PQ game.
    • Another possible hub scene available after the third level of the fourth labyrinth has Ryuji, Junpei, and Yosuke talking, while Ryuji is looking over at an Evoker. He puts it to his head and then suddenly aims it at Junpei and Yosuke, scaring them. Even more hilarious, Junpei should know that an Evoker doesn't work that way.
    • One possible scene at the central hub after unlocking the fifth labyrinth has Shinjiro, Akihiko, Chie and Yusuke having a popcorn eating competition while Hikari serves as a commentator. At one point, Shinjiro and Akihiko take it to the new level by pouring an entire cup into their mouth, shocking Chie. It should also be worthy to note that Hikari was not this active prior to the fifth Labyrinth; Before that, she usually just stays idle at one spot in the central hub scenes.
  • Akihiko has a voice clip where he yells, "Protein!"
  • Much like Junpei, Futaba hums a jingle when she levels up.

PVs

  • The second PV is full of some funny moments considering Morgana and Teddie (and Koromaru) are narrating the whole thing. Morgana tries to narrate in his usual calm manner but momentarily freaks out at the idea of there being 28 Persona users in total. He also is quite put off by Teddie describing himself as the "pretty mascot".
  • The ending of the Junessic Land trailer. It needs to be seen to be believed.

Kamoshidaman

  • One of the very first cinematics of the game takes place in Mementos after the Phantom Thieves decide to train there that day. It's a re-creation of Joker's "The Show is Over!" finisher from P5 using his chibi 3D model!
  • Of all the people to wear a superhero costume and be the protagonist of a superhero movie, it's Kamoshida.
  • During the first time you enter the theater, you explore and visit all the areas. When you first pass by the food stand, Yusuke gets distracted and says, "That looks delicious", while Ann scolds him. Of course, Yusuke can't help but bemoan his lack of money to even purchase it.
  • Upon meeting Doe, one of Joker's dialogue options is to say he wants to poke it. The party gets very confused.
  • After your encounter with your first FOE in the prologue, the Phantom Thieves come up with different names to label it. Ryuji suggests "Chicken Dude", Ann suggests the cuter "Toritoripii" (something around the lines of "birby-peep"), and Yusuke suggests something dramatic along the lines of "Anguish of the Evil Bird", as if naming it after artwork. You're given the option to encourage either of those suggestions until Nagi confirms it as "Film Obscurité Etendue."
    • When the group turns to Joker for a name, you can roll with Ryuji's "Chicken Dude" name, at which point he yells that you should be more serious.
    • When encountering an FOE for the first time in the dungeon itself, Ann has already forgotten its name and calls it a "BLT." This leads to Ryuji and Yusuke arguing over whether beef or chicken is better.
  • When P3 Heroine asks for the reasons behind the Phantom Thieves costumes, Ryuji, Yusuke, and Ann proceed to consecutively pass on explaining. Joker follows on passing too, leaving Morgana having to explain that the costume manifest based on the person's perception of a rebel. Her response is the kicker.
P3P Heroine: Whoa! I see! ...Actually, I don't get it at all!
Ryuji: Well, it's not like we get it, either.
  • Then when discussing P3 Heroine's evoker, Yusuke gets the idea of adding dramatic flair to his Persona summoning... and proceeds to do the passion pose from his Confidant in Persona 5.
  • The P3 female protagonist's gung-ho attitude about donning a police uniform to trick one of Kamoshidaman's police officers. It goes as well as you would expect, so what does FeMC do? She knocks him unconscious with a neck chop and gleefully restrains him with his own handcuffs for good measure, saying she always wanted to try that. The Phantom Thieves can only look on in bewilderment.
  • Kamoshidaman's transformation into a monster rabbit shocks everyone but the P3P Heroine has a completely different reaction.
P3P Heroine: How'd his ears grow like that!?

Junessic Land

  • When the P4 team finally meets the heroes, it involves Joker and the P4 Protag getting into a small fight. They initially assume the heroes were an enemy until it was pointed out Joker's "gun" was actually a model. They proceed to question why you would brandish it then, with one dialogue option being Joker admitting he forgot that his gun doesn't work in the theater.
  • During the meeting with the P4 team, after Yukiko is introduced.
P3P Heroine: I knew it! She had the aura of a traditional Japanese beauty! You must be really good at cleaning... and cooking too!
P4 Hero: Please... don't ever mention cooking again.
Futaba: I sense great tragedy in that comment...
  • After getting proper introductions out of the way, you get a nice Call-Back to the meeting of the protagonists in the previous game.
P5 Hero: Nice to me-heet you, ho!
P4 Hero: ME EAT YOU WHOLE...
P3P Heroine: (in a deep voice) I am in your care...
Naoto: Umm... are you all using some sort of code?
  • Teddie becomes nearly hysterical with Yosuke in trouble and turns to needing a hug, from Goro of all people. He ends up nearly suffocating him and Chie has to get him to let him go.
  • The P4 members each want a Code Name as well, so the Phantom Thieves suggest a couple for the group, some fitting and some outlandish ("Sirloin" for Chie, "Nanako Lover" for the P4 protagonist, "Skull #2" for Kanji, etc.). Teddie, however, just remains "Teddie" ("Ted" in the localization). At the end, Morgana and the P4 Hero lament being the Only Sane Man among their teams.
    • Also during the conversation, Ryuji gets confused that everyone is giving Naoto girl nicknames, prompting everyone to point out that Naoto is a girl. Ryuji didn't even notice, and Ann can only shake her head and call him dense.
  • After the initial meeting with the Yosukesaurus, the P4 Hero notes that he should give Yosuke a head of cabbage the next time they meet, as an indirect reference to a cabbage-based meme in his source game. You can have Joker respond with "I'm more of a lettuce man myself", to which Yusuke follows up with a comparison of lettuce and cabbage, and the P4 Hero gets invested in this insight. The rest of the party shakes their heads before rerailing the conversation.
  • When the group decides to cook frozen meat to lure a dinosaur FOE away, Yosuke urges the girls to find ingredients while the boys cook to avoid another Mystery Food X mishap. The female P3 protagonist finds matsutake mushrooms, Naoto finds pungent herbs, Chie finds a dinosaur egg, and Yukiko finds... a pitcher plant (complete with a screaming sound effect when she shows it to them). Joker cooks the meat to perfection but Chie decides to add special sauce... and the result looks foul. When asked to try it, Teddie jumps and shoves the food down Yosuke's throat. Yosuke looks horrified, but discovers that the food actually tastes good.
  • Haru is still as much of a sadist as always — after running into a Pternandon FOE, she goes along with Ryuji's suggestion of giant fried chicken servings and wants to eat it, just to experience it would taste like!

A.I.G.I.S.

  • The Running Gag of the Velvet Room attendants appearing out of nowhere when the P3 cast are brought back to the cinema, to the point where Yukiko lampshades it.
[Justine and Caroline appear out of nowhere]
Chie: When did you get here!?
Yukiko: Come on Chie, you already said that - Snrk... are you even paying attention? [Laughing fit]
  • Ann immediately fawns over Koromaru, being very impressed that he's a Persona user. Morgana is very jealous of this and tries to point out that he's a fluffy and furry Persona user too, to Ryuji's annoyance.
  • After the proper introduction of the P3 cast, the P3 Hero requests that the P5 Hero take charge. You can opt to respond with his signature "I don't care". Yukari is surprised at how on-point the impression is, and the dejected P3 Hero wonders aloud if he does say it that often.
  • The Phantom Thieves try to come up with a Code Name for each SEES member, with the P3 female protagonist providing less-than-flattering reasons for each. Of note, Akihiko gets "Protein", Fuuka gets "Hacker" and "Killer Cooking", and Shinjiro gets "Gakkygoro-san."
    • The P3P Heroine once again revealing too much information about the rest of the teammates while giving them code names such as Shinjiro being SEES' brood mother and Fuuka's horrible cooking.
    • Joker can get the option to call Junpei "Goatee" or "Geezer" which causes Yukiko to enter a laughing fit who then spreads it to Noir.
    • Yusuke's idea for Koromaru is "Hellbeast Summoned from the Infernal Depths."
    • Joker then gets to give the P3P Heroine a nickname too. You can get to call her "Dazzling Demon" which Crow will call you out for calling a girl "Demon" much to his surprise, the Heroine likes it.
  • On the third floor, your team separates into three groups to open a switch to the next area.
    • The "Adaptation" group consists of Yukari, Ken, Koromaru, Yukiko, Ann, and Yusuke. You have to cross over a pit of lava by a balance beam. Yusuke keeps wobbling dramatically, and you're given the option to help one of the girls. Instead, Yusuke jumps and clings onto you, which causes Joker to have a hilarious reaction.
    • The "Power" group consists of Junpei, Akihiko, Shinjiro, Chie, Kanji, Teddie, and Ryuji. Their task is to move 1000 kg to a specified location. After moving 680 kg, they put themselves on the scale itself, but end up getting 1162 kg. One of the options is for Chie to move, naturally she refuses vehementally since she doesn't want anyone to know her weight. Running out of time, Kanji tries to strip Teddie out of his bear suit only to discover that he has smuggled 2kg worth of snacks.
    • The "Knowledge" group consists of Mitsuru, Naoto, Morgana, Makoto, Futaba, Akechi and then there is Yosuke who while not dumb is more or less completely outshined by the others till a point they help him by saving "that" for the metal question.
      • To elaborate, the characters have each name a metallic element that isn’t silver, gold or copper and quickly realize if they don’t leave a really easy one for Yosuke, they're screwed. So, they start by naming more obscure elements like molybdenum, tungsten and beryllium and unanimously deciding to save "that" element for Yosuke's turn, with Yosuke himself being the only one who doesn’t know what "that" is. He eventually figures out it's aluminum.
  • After the robot Commander issues orders to capture UIY-2249, the party makes a bunch of decisions to name her, as she does not have a name because the Commander refuses to call her by any name other than code. When Haru asks Joker about it, the three choices he is offered are Robo-ko, Aigis Jr. and Becky. Be noted that Becky is actually the cover name Sadayo Kawakami, Joker's homeroom teacher, uses so no-one knows she moonlights as a maid. After then Junpei attempts to call her "Aigis Z" and Ken attempts to call her "Great Aigis Triple Zeta," only to be rejected by Ann which proceeds to nickname her "Pudding-chan," and Yusuke calls her "Almond Tofu". Eventually, Futaba sets a nickname called "Ribbon," which is agreed by the party and UIY-2249 is known as "Ribbon."
    • Should you choose the Becky option, Morgana's irises dramatically shrink as he gives you a Flat "What" (being the only individual that would know where it came from), prompting Mitsuru to question the reason for choosing that name with Morgana interrupting with a Rapid-Fire "No!".
  • A.I.G.I.S has a section where everyone has to crawl through a human-sized ventilation system in order to get into the next area - you know, like a spy/action movie would. The Phantom Thieves have no problem with this, but some objections arise when it comes to who is going to be behind who from the other crews.
    • Ken isn't comfortable with going through the vent, and you have several suggestions to calm him down, such as "Don't be scared." If you suggest him to close his eyes, Fox will pop in and says he does the same. So... it turns out Fox keeps his eyes closed any time they're in a vent.
    • It's dark in the vent and you have several choices on what to do to light your way. If you pick "Use Panther's flame", Naoto will panic and say that it isn't a good idea. However, Yukiko thinks it is, and wants to try using that method herself as well.
    • Chie realizes Koromaru is in front of her when his tail hits her face. Skull thought Koromaru was in front of him based on his tail, but it turns out to be Fox instead. Meanwhile, Kanji cops a feel on Morgana. This causes Morgana to claw against Akechi, whose nose pokes Chie.
    • Also the fact that the entire group goes all at once, meaning there are nearly thirty people stuffed into the vent. It's a miracle it didn't just collapse under the weight.

Hikari

  • When the cast first encounter a stump with a face on it, the protagonists poke fun of its long nose and how it reminded them about Igor but since none of them referred him by his name, it only confuses Ryuji. Meanwhile, Teddie's failed attempt to make a joke with the same stump only frustrates Skull even more.
    • In the Japanese version, this is instead a joke about nose and flowers. note
  • After reaching a dead-end, it turns out Skull has the depressing trailer song stuck in his head. To combat this, Junpei suggest that they sing as well, but is immediately shot down by Yukari.
  • The F.O.Es may be unsettling in this dungeon for the most part, but there is something humorous about the third. The first is a twitching demon teddy bear, the second is a robot who’s body opens up revealing a skull face, you’d expect the seven dwarfs would turn into monsters as well but no, they just wield various firearms! Unlike the other two, you can’t help chuckle in front of them.
  • After Hikari's memory is restored, Joker has the option to reassure her and flirtatiously call her cute. Cue thinly-veiled threats from all three Clingy Jealous Girls as the potential ramifications of his pickup line dawn on him. Even the P4 hero and P3 hero worry for his safety.
Haru: [giggling] You're fussing too much, Mona-chan. There's no way Joker would ever do that—right?
Ann: That's right. You'd never make a girl cry—huh, Joker?
Makoto: Yes, the rumors about him being sleazy turned out to be false accusations. Isn't that so?
P4 hero: Ah—this maelstrom I'm sensing in them...
P3 hero: Yeah... Joker, you might want to watch your back.

The epilogue

  • When the P3 Hero finds a movie CD from an unknown source, the first thing that Junpei asks him is if it's porn!
Junpei: Could it be a sexy one? *squeal*, what a perv, [P3 Hero name]!
  • Apparently, not only did the ultra-formal Aigis get influenced to say goodbye to people the way the ultra-casual Futaba does it, but this apparently carried over to even after the protagonists return home without their memories of the adventure. Even the female protagonist's Aigis acts this way.
  • The ending credits is a collection of funny scenes of character interactions. Though some stands out:
    • The P4 Hero deserves special mention due to his swag show-off in many scenes.
    • Poor Yosuke is being pursued by a Hanakosaurus. Unless you don't like her sudden shove-in.
    • The P3 Hero watches in terror as The Four Awful Cooks of the Apocalypse are cooking a prehistoric version of Mystery Food X.
    • Hikari's directing some of the cast as they frolic in the scenes of her musical. These include FeMC, Teddie in his Alice cosplay, a very reluctant-looking Shinjiro, and the P4 Hero who's confidently striking a dance pose lifted from P4D.
    • Many scenes has Hikari holding a megaphone as the director, except for one where FeMC's the one holding it, planning to jump scare Akechi and Naoto with a mischievous grin on her face.
    • Joker is serving coffee for Ken and Mitsuru while wearing Theodore's apron from the first game.

Special Screenings

  • During Yukari, Yukiko, and Makoto's Special Screening, Junpei tells a scary story about a doll attacking a group of girls. Yukiko hijacks his story with maniacal laughter and continues it, saying that the doll taught the girls how to cook and the girls decide to open a restaurant, essentially giving it a happy ending. At the end of the event, Yukiko tells another story about a figure mysteriously following them. Junpei tries to continue her story by describing the figure as creepy, but Yukiko throws in Nightmare Retardant by giving it away that she was describing Yusuke.
  • The "Prized Possessions" Screening has Morgana eager to steal treasure from Seidoptera FOEs, prompting the others to suggest he's on catnip. Then Ryuji gets excited, and it's remarked that he seems catnipped-up... which causes him to yell Morgana's "I am not a cat!" catchphrase.
  • One Special Screening stars Joker and the P4 Hero... in a fishing contest. Joker and Ryuji both mention how Kawakami is a much better fisherman than both of them combined, while the P4 Hero reminisces about the time he reeled in a bus stop sign.
    • The boys of the team getting gung-ho about the fishing contest becomes meta-funny when one imagines their reactions to learning that the Samegawa River's Guardian is much larger than Ichigaya's Guardian, let alone the Sea Guardian.
    • Towards the end of the event, both protagonists are left contemplating on their similarities as leaders of their respective teams. A peculiar dialogue prompt shows up:
      Joker: Big Bro...!
      P4 Hero: Little Bro...!
    • By the way, the Bus Stop Sign is in this game (although it's available around the third labyrinth) as a weapon for Shinjiro! And it's a decent weapon, too.
  • A Screening set in A.I.G.I.S. ends with Mitsuru wondering what it takes to become closer to the rest of SEES. The P3P Heroine suggests bonding over a shared interest. When the party returns to the theater, Mitsuru tries it out by mimicking Junpei's "Ace Detective" gag. It's as funny as it is adorable.
  • The "Wild Card Buffet" Special Screening is kicked off by Margaret and Elizabeth arguing about whose guest is more of a Big Eater. Neither protagonist is able to escape before they're forced into a donut eating contest. It ends in a draw, which the Velvet sisters somehow predicted.
    • Eventually it's made known that all three Wild Card leaders have managed to conquer a massive food challenge each. Kanji wonders if a humongous appetite is key to leadership, while Yosuke argues otherwise. Joker can chime in that eating takes more skill than just having a big appetite; all his choices are dependent on his home game's social stat requirements to beat the Big Bang Challenge. Regardless of choice, the P4 Hero agrees, going on to recite his game's narration for the requirements to finish the Mega Beef Bowl.
Mitsuru: So a ravenous appetite is the key to true leadership...? Fascinating...
Junpei: Uh, I dunno if you wanna use these guys as reference for that...
    • The contest itself is Mundane Made Awesome — while the P3 and P4 protagonist are scarfing away donuts, they're being cheered on by Kanji and Aigis while "Laser Beam", the previous game's boss theme, plays in the background.
    • Made even funnier when you consider even the P3 Heroine is noted to have a big appetite as well, thus giving further credence to the comparison.
  • A Ticket involving upgrading Aigis ends with Futaba unintentionally adding Moe to Aigis' vocabulary.
  • The "Adult Only" quest brings up Joker and the P3 Hero's Confidant and Social Link events that, when viewed by others and without context, lead to much hilarity such as the P3 Hero visiting Club Escapade to meet a monk (Mutatsu) and listening to a drunk (Vincent Brooks) complaining or Joker playing Shogi with Hifumi.
  • The "Mascot Matchup" Screening has Koromaru, Teddie and Morgana competing for title of the best mascot. Morgana initially doesn't want any part of it... until Teddie hits on Ann. Koromaru predictably wins, and Teddie and Morgana try to throw hands out of frustration... which quickly turns pathetic as neither has arms long enough to reach the other.
  • In "The Shape of Bonds", the cast is tasked with talking with the flowers to figure out where Hikari's lost possession has gone. Ryuji approaches them normally, only to get made fun of and turned away. Junpei attempts sweet-talking them and accidentally offends them. Yosuke attempts speaking to them... as if they were Junes customers, and understandably fails. They finally get progress by offhandedly talking about the lost item.
  • "Double Bear-elled Battle" starts with revealing that Teddie requested a rematch with the Mr. Bear FOE. A Hurricane of Puns quickly ensues. Aigis can even calculate the pun speed.
Teddie: Awww... How can Hikarin bear that unbearable ab-bearation, but still think I'm overbearing...?
P4 Hero: Just grin and bear it, Teddie. That bear bear-ly has the bearlike bearing you bear.
Aigis: Approaching speeds of fifteen bears per minute.
  • Just like in the last game, the fight against all the Velvet Room siblings is kicked off by a Lost Food Grievance. This time, it's the twins that are upset by their secret hot dog stashes going missing, which leads Elizabeth to place the blame on Joker since he's a known phantom thief.
    • Once again, Elizabeth insists on treating the fight like a superhero battle, only this time, the siblings are a Sentai team.
      Elizabeth: Form up, Velvet Rangers!
Theodore: The blue of compassionate courage! Velvet Navy!
Margaret: The blue of gracious grace. Velvet Sapphire.
Caroline: The blue of guts and glory! Velvet Cobalt!
Justine: ...Th-The blue of careful calm. Velvet Indigo.
Elizabeth: The blue of jubilant justice! Velvet Blue! Together we are the ultramarine hero team! The Velvet Rangers!
    • In the end, it turns out that Elizabeth was the one stealing Caroline's hot dogs and giving them to the party. But then the question of who stole Justine's hot dogs comes up... and everyone notices some ketchup on Caroline's face. Justine suggests that Joker isn't the only one in need of rehabilitation. Theodore and Margaret also sigh, noticing Elizabeth has sauce on her face as well.
  • At the end of one screening involving the P3P Heroine, Junpei, Yukari and Fuuka, Theodore casually gives the Heroine a ring, which makes it as if he is proposing to her.
  • Theodore makes amazing popcorn, that happens to be brown and blue. Whenever someone describes the flavor, it sounds like they're recalling being electrocuted.
    • Someone steals Teddie's costume and attacks Marie to try to steal her popcorn. When the characters discover Teddie's empty costume with him nowhere to be found, one of the dialogue options is to immediately accuse Akechi of murder.
    • Naoto and Akechi get on the case, but for their plan, they have to figure out how the popcorn was made. Whenever they have Yusuke perform a taste test to see if it's right, he says their ingredients don’t have the necessary 'electrifying' flavor. They realize Theodore literally electrocuted the kernels on an electric fence.
    • The detectives discover the culprit was Justine and Caroline, who stacked on top of each other in Teddie's costume to steal popcorn since they didn't get any. This effectively means two professional detectives were after a couple of kids for the crime of trying to steal some popcorn.
