Funny / Minions: The Rise of Gru

Go To

  • In the opening, when Wild Knuckles enters the temple, the stairs become a slide straight to some Spikes of Doom... just to him fall exactly between them.
  • Gru's worn out teacher asks out loud what her students want to be when they grow up. When one boy eagerly wishes to be a teacher, she responds with a dry "No you don't".
  • The Minions pick up Gru from school while dressed like a family of the decade.
Kevin (wearing a red dress, '70s Hair wig, and lipstick): Gru! Kiss ala mama!
Gru (embarrassed): Oh, my favorite tiny relatives.
  • Gru clears out a screening of Jaws with a stink bomb. Afterwards, the Minions watch with him, and are cackling whenever the shark attacks.
  • Gru and the Minions go to the arcade, in which the Minions help him in cheating at the games.
  • The recreation of the first film's coffee shop scene, except Gru uses a cheese ray instead of a freeze ray.
Guy at register: Don't cheese me, bro!
  • Gru and the minions enjoy their ice cream in front of a weight watchers window. Kevin ends up getting brain freeze while scarfing down the whole cone in one go, while Bob's ice cream falls off his cone, which he doesn't mind and simply picks up to eat.
  • The whole scene where Otto almost loses the Zodiac Stone, especially when he fights a duck for it, only to then trade it for a Pet Rock.
Gru: Did you just trade my future... for a PET ROCK?!
  • While Kevin, Stuart & Bob interrogate Otto as to where the kid he gave the Zodiac Stone to is and what he looks like, Stuart starts violently thrashing and shaking Otto around when he can't come up with a straight answer, prompting Kevin to stop him and have him step back. He turns to Otto... and starts thrashing and shaking him about himself.
  • When Wild Knuckles tells Gru to call his mother to demand a ransom:
Gru: I'm sure she will pay you just to keep me!
  • Kevin and Stuart posing as pilots and flying to San Francisco, while Bob is dressed as a flight attendant who keeps trying and failing to calm down a crying baby.
    • After the flight lands in San Francisco, the baby is now sleeping peacefully in his mom's arms.
    • Halfway through the flight, Stuart gets sick and has to go to the bathroom. When he flushes, he gets sucked into the toilet, which then sucks out all his clothes. After Kevin lands the plane, Stuart returns covered in toilet paper with blue water inside his goggles.
      Kevin: Ha ha!
      Stuart: No! No "ha-ha"!
    • Bob serving peanuts to the passengers. One peanut at a time.
  • After Stuart is morphed into a chicken, he ends up laying eggs as weapons against the Vicious 6. One of the eggs even hatches into a little Minion chick.
  • Master Chow using her acupuncture client to try and tell Kevin, Stuart, and Bob to go back home, even making him slap Stuart around.
  • The Minion Trio's kung-fu training is one of the film's comic centerpieces. Among the highlights:
    • After Kevin fails to break a board with his head, Stuart has a go... and tries to break it by grabbing Kevin and slamming his head into it repeatedly.
    • Bob manages to break the board accidentally by sneezing. This leads Master Chow to test his Hard Head by dropping various heavy objects over it, culminating in an Illogical Safe. Every one of them is destroyed, while Bob remains unharmed with a stupid smile on his face.
    • Stuart attacking a training dummy with a mace, and getting hit repeatedly by the dummy as it wobbles back and forth, until his goggles are sunk into his face.
  • Gru defeats the Vicious 6 by using the Zodiac Stone to turn them into rats, reducing the once feared supervillains to squeaking house pests. Belle Bottom slaps Jean Clawed in frustration and the two get into a Wimp Fight, Stronghold is now unable to lift up his metal gauntlets even though they shrunk down with him, and Nun-Chunk tries praying to get out of the transformation.
    • The Anti-Villain League leave the Vicious 6 in this state when they're arrested, putting them in an animal cage while Belle Bottom berates her team for their defeat in incoherent squeaks. One agent gasps and recoils when he sees them, likely due to a fear of rats.
  • During Wild Knuckles' funeral (which was staged because he was Faking the Dead), the casket is dropped by the Minions carrying it, revealing that it was full of bananas.
  • The little hand-drawn vignettes during the closing credits, showing the various antics Gru and the Minions get into after the story.
    • Gru as Willy Wonka and the Minions as Oompah-Loompahs for Halloween. They make out like bandits with huge bags of candy, along with a TV and lamp they most likely stole.
    • Gru and Bob watch TV, only for Stuart to interrupt by using a lawn mower indoors.
    • Gru has the Minions raid the supermarket's cereal aisle for the Free Prize at the Bottom.
    • Gru makes some extra money by setting up a stand selling "Shoes my mom probably won't miss."
    • In a Call-Back to Kevin, Bob, and Stuart asking to sleep in Gru's room, all the Minions come into Gru's room to sleep. Their snoring keeps him awake.
    • Stuart running on a lazy Susan during dinner with Master Chow.
    • Otto taking the Pet Rock to see Rocky.
