Awesome / Minions: The Rise of Gru

Go To

Gru and the Minions may have only recently started working together, but they still manage to get in their fair share of awesome moments.

  • The opening scene tells you everything you need to know about the Vicious 6 — their theft of the map to the Zodiac talisman goes off without a hitch, and the AVL can't even touch them.
  • Wild Knuckles manages to survive everything that the guardians of the talisman throw at him, and although his teammates betray him, he survives that too.
  • Gru proves his chops as a villain when the Vicious 6 reject his attempt to become their newest member — he steals the Zodiac talisman when they aren't looking and manages to evade everything they throw at him when they finally notice he's gone.
  • Otto's efforts to get back the talisman after trading it for a pet rock. He manages to keep up with a motorcycle using a tricycle, including at one point going straight through a river like it was nothing!
  • The acupuncturist and the Kung-fu master, Chow, is full of awesome — especially during her fight against Wild Knuckles' henchmen to protect the Minion trio.
    • Special mention of how she defeats the larger goon: first, Chow starts kicking various fruits at him with deadly efficiency and speed à la Chun-Li's Hyakuretsukyaku. Then she tackles him, slapping his face rapidly, karate-chops his neck and then throws a large thug off, before finishing the battle with a powerful force shout, sending Wild Knuckles' henchmen packing.
  • Wild Knuckles ends up having to fight his own pet crocodiles when they grow a little unruly. While his age does catch up with him, he still manages to put a few in their place.
  • When Kevin, Stuart and Bob attempt to save Gru in the climax, the Vicious Six use the Zodiac Stone to transform them into "useless" animals with no obvious combat ability. When cornered and Gru about to be killed, the three Minions unleash their "inner beasts", using the skills they learned from Master Chow to defeat the transformed villains.
    • Kevin uses his rabbit Super-Speed to start running circles around Svengeance (fast enough to leave a trail of flames in his wake) until he gets dizzy, then dashes straight up a wall to perform a flying kick right on his head.
    • Stuart bombards Nun-Chuck with a rapid-fire barrage of eggs, despite being a rooster.
    • Bob uses his goat form to charge in and headbutt Jean-Clawed right in the groin, then nail Stronghold in the jaw. Later, Gru brains the former with one of the clock hands he was tied to.
      • Bonus point for Otto, who manages to free Gru's right hand, despite not having much to do in the action.
    • Finally, the transformed Minion trio defend Gru when the Vicious 6 try to finish him off, repelling them with the same powerful force shout Master Chow used earlier, allowing Gru to grab the Zodiac Stone and use it against the Vicious 6 to turn them all into rats.
    • Gru follows this up with a small revenge, by pointing out that his former idols were not only defeated by a child, but the same boy they had previously rejected for being a "tubby little punk" rather than a true villain.
  • One for Wild Knuckles: He somehow managed to both survive his burns from Belle Bottom's dragon form and fake his own death, avoiding a prison sentence.
