Funny / Lupin III: The First

Go To

Well, what did you expect? It's a Lupin film!!

  • Lupin's disguise gets blown and he gets cuffed. Instead of struggling against the cuff on his left hand, he just unleashes a cloud of green tear gas!
  • Lupin playing "keep the diary away from the amateur thief" ends with Fujiko stealing the thing! What makes it funny is that Fujiko was on a helicopter, and she managed to surprise Lupin. How could Lupin not notice the helicopter?!
  • Zenigata's men dogpile atop Lupin, only for Lupin to slip out in his underwear! And this escape was for nothing, as Interpol captures him with fishing nets.
  • The car chase is a full-on riot. Jigen's making fun of the cops by left-handedly shooting their tires out as he's driving backwards, and then he dismantles a road sign by shooting the retention nuts off without looking where he's shooting. When the police van flips over the downed sign, Goemon slices it in half and some cartoon physics ensue.
  • How many pairs of handcuffs did Zenigata slap onto Lupin?!
    • And the really funny thing is it wasn't enough. Once Lupin is far enough away from the cops that they can't stop him, he slips them all in about a minute.
  • Lupin fails at using torture threats on Laetitia. She knows he isn't that kind of guy.
  • Fujiko's escape from captivity. It involves, uh, suggestive language, a beat down with shattered hand cuffs, and a floatplane she can conveniently fly. And then Lupin escapes his confinement just to bonk two goons over the head with his shoes.
  • When Lupin spies on Lambert talking to Gerard about the Eclipse, he peeks at them through some bottles on the table behind Lambert with a hilariously smug expression, which is made funnier by the bottles distorting Lupin's face like funhouse mirrors.
  • A small detail, but Lupin goes "sky swimming" just to catch up with Fujiko's plane (as he and Laetitia are falling to their doom).
  • When Lupin, Laetitia, and Fujiko are forced to abandon the floatplane, Jigen catches Laetitia and Fujiko, but not Lupin. Goemon (who is behind the wheel of the Fiat) actually swerves out of the way to let Lupin splat face-first against the ground.
    Lupin: Jigen, how could you?
Jigen: Can't you see? My hands were full!
  • When Lupin and the gang get trapped in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a burned-out Fiat and a crashed airplane no thanks to Ahnenerbe's attack, Lupin decides to get them a ride out of there by calling Zenigata, knowing he'd come anywhere to capture him. He's using the plane's surprisingly intact radio transceiver for this. Then he manages to steal the helicopter when Zenigata is trying to arrest him (namely, Zenigata and his men almost cuff an improvised dummy). Zenigata is able to get onboard the helicopter as Fujiko pilots it away, then is tied up by the gang and humiliated, complete with face doodling like what he did to Lupin earlier.
    • What makes the scene is that all Lupin has to do is say "Hello" (Moshi-moshiiii... ? in the original Japanese dub) into the radio and immediately Zenigata shows up.
  • Zenigata becoming flustered red when Laetitia asks his help with Puppy-Dog Eyes, and then swearing to cooperate and do anything he can for her. To which Lupin, in some Hypocritical Humor (considering his behavior in Fujiko's presence) reacts to asking "...Really?"
    • Goemon's reaction is hilarious, too: he chokes on his ramen after witnessing the scene!
  • The first trial's unusual dismissal of conventional physics gets started when Jigen finds himself floating away.
  • The second trial of the main treasure entails using an object forged from a meteorite in order to safely cross a ravine. Zantetsuken happens to be made of meteoric iron (as it has been in certain incarnations), and it takes a lot of coaxing on the gang's part to convince a petulant Goemon to part with it temporarily.
  • Lupin doesn't like the idea of doing the third trial. Everyone seems to egg him into it. So he steals Jigen's hat, throws it into the Laser Hallway, and then does the awesome thing. Jigen's more than upset about his hat when he gets it back.
  • Goemon has one thing on his mind as they escape the crumbling ruins:
  • During the All Your Base Are Belong to Us that happened to Ahnenerbe's Brazilian Chapter, Goemon shows off by slicing the clothes off several goons. Oh, and he also chopped their weapons to pieces.
  • Lupin's Hitler disguise is totally blown when he gets carried away with operating the Eclipse. He attempts to laugh it off, but it doesn't work.
  • The sheer amount of Nazi Gold Fujiko manages to stuff into her speedboat at the ending. How does she do that all by herself?!
