Funny / Final Fantasy VII New Threat Mod

Besides the moments from the original game, there are also these.

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

Funny Moments in both scenarios of Version 2.0:

  • Cloud being a Deadpan Snarker. If he interacts with Barret right before he plants the bomb with Tifa in Reactor 5's core, Cloud will snarkily wonder if Barret is playing chaperone. The latter retorts he's damn right. Childhood friend isn't good enough in his book.
  • Yuffie's introduction consists of her trying to rob the group while they’re staying at Kalm. The FIVE party members will chase after her and will engage the fight against her. All together at the same time. (Barret and Red XIII are controlled by the AI.) While Yuffie is scripted to heal herself several times to make the fight last longer, it’s actually pretty hard to lose – unless you’re doing it on purpose. Therefore, it feels less like a boss fight and more like Yuffie is getting a huge thrashing. One has to wonder if some Catharsis Factor is at play here...
Barret: You robbed the wrong train, fool!
  • One of the proposed builds for Aerith in the Soul Point menu is 'Slum Drunk'. It's a build for those who want to play her as a physical fighter.
  • The Lampshade Hanging if the player chooses to skip the puzzle of the Giant Clock Room in the Temple of the Ancients. Cloud will mention that they don't have the time, being supposed to save the world and all that, a nod to the infamous tediousness of that puzzle if one wants to grab the items of all the rooms.
  • An optional scene has been added between Tifa and Cloud in Icicle Inn's bar. During it, the pair will discuss their future, and what they could do. When Cloud admits he doesn't know which job he could take, Tifa retorts he has many talents. Like riding Chocobos... or dolphins. Cloud awkwardly whishes to not remember that last part.
  • If Cloud selects Yuffie to climb Gaea's Cliff, she'll complain she knew he'd do it just to annoy her.
    Yuffie: Gawd! I hate you!
  • The glorious reference to the Chair-Aerith meme. During the rescue operation at Junon to save Tifa and Barret, Aerith will actively take part in the rescue disguised as a journalist (if she was saved by the player of course). She’s actually the one who knocks out Scarlet. By slamming a chair on her head, of course.
  • Aerith's line when Barret, Cait Sith, and she are noticed by a group of troopers while they're trying to cut off the gas of Tifa's execution chamber.
  • A 'Limit Break' option choice has been added during Tifa's (in)famous 'slap fight' with Scarlet. Choosing it will make Tifa utterly trounce the Shinra executive with martial arts moves. It is as glorious as it is funny.
  • An other Aerith-related line. Her reaction when the train carrying the Mega-Materia leaves Mount Corel's Reactor just before they can reach it is to abruptly swear out of the blue (which could be a nod to an other memetic moment in the Remake, the one during which Aerith swears out of the blue when she nearly falls off a ladder).
  • At the beginning of the party's raid on Junon's Underwater Reactor, there is a fight against a group of soldiers. At the end of said fight, the officer claims it's not over and they can still turn the situation around... Which leads his squad to mistakenly believe he ordered them to turn around. Therefore, when the captain yells to charge, his squad runs in the wrong direction. Cloud can only scratch his head in disbelief afterwards.
  • The game isn't above trolling its players. If one bothers to go all the way to the start of the Winding Tunnel, they are rewarded with... a Sense Materia. Cloud's reaction of awkwardly scratching his head is pitch-perfect.
  • In Kalm during the events of Disk 3, there's a small optional scene showing a father-daughter moment between Barret and Marlene. It ends with him taking her to do some shopping. In the weapons store. The shopkeeper is understandably baffled.
  • Among the added sidequests of the end-game, Yuffie's one stands out in that, contrary to most of the others, it definitely has a comical undertone, in no part due to her attitude.
    • Godo's philosophical speeches are parodied, and Yuffie begs him to stop embarrassing her. He doesn't.
Godo: You who were born through the miracle of Creation through my loins, only you can claim our family's final technique!
Yuffie: Oh my god. Dad, please.
    • Godo's new form is identical to his former one... except that he's now in his underwear. Yuffie complains that it's both cheap and gross.
    • When she's faced by the spirit of Da-Chao protecting the cave's sacred materia, Yuffie complains that the ghost should just go haunt her dad or something.
    • After winning her Limit Break 4, Yuffie (once more) complains, basically grousing that it's not worth all the build-up her father gave it. At that point, the spirit of Da-Chao just begs her to leave.
Yuffie: Is THIS what my Dad was yammering about? This sucks, it only hits 'em once!
    • If she's talked to after the Da-Chao boss fight, she'll show how 'proud' she is of her accomplishment.
Yuffie: So I've claimed my birthright and stuff. Well, thanks or whatever.
  • Cait Sith's small end-game sidequest is so non-sensical that it becomes funny. It involves going to the destroyed Temple of the Ancient filled with Cait Sith duplicates spouting weird lines (including one referencing Final Fantasy IX); then a boss battle against a One-Winged Angel Cait Sith and a One-Winged Angel Moogle. Yes, they're using Safer-Sephiroth's model. Afterwards, the party dismisses it as a bad trip.
  • The final opponent of the Battle Arena's Special Fight is none other than the 'legendary' Zigfried, in all his Zero-Effort Boss-glory. Extra laughs will ensue if he decides to use his "mighty" attack on a character who can counter-attack, as it means the guy may pointlessly tire himself out trying to attack someone who will then promptly defeat him in one hit without the player needing to enter one input. Next, Gilgamesh actually hijacks the fight because he felt the battle wasn't impressive enough. Of course, he spouts corny lines during the entire fight, including the classic: 'Let's fight like men. And ladies. And men who dress like ladies.'
Gilgamesh: For Gilgamesh- It's cameo time!
  • The mod adds the sprites of the group members in towns. Sometimes, their dialogues or idle animations are giggle-worthy.
    • In Kalm, during Disk 1:
      • Rex XIII will comment that he heard that Shinra is blaming AVALANCHE for the President's death. Cloud comments that of course they'd tell such a lie. Then, Red adds that Shinra is also saying that they left Rufus badly injured. Cloud starts to repeat that of course they'd tell such a lie... before admitting: "I guess that one's true."
      • Yuffie gives her thoughts on Kalm. "I'm an expert of small-ass dozy hick towns like this. Kalm is a solid 8/10 on the 'Boring-me-shitless' scale."
    • Several conversations between Yuffie and Red XIII are worth a laugh: part-Vitriolic Best Buds, part Those Two Guys. In Under Junon, during the events of Disk 1, she's trying to sneakily convince him to carry her on his back during their travels while he's having none of it. During the events of Disk 2, she's pestering him to know if he eats dog food. In Kalm, Yuffie and Red XIII are resting at the first floor of a house. In Disk 2, the former keeps bothering the latter with bad jokes.
    • In the Chocobo farm, Red XIII can be seen running around in the background like a regular dog.
    • Yuffie's hatred of quiet little town is a Running Gag. When the team reaches Icicle, she'll blame Cloud, complaining he's doing it on purpose.
    • Aerith's and Tifa's idle conversation in Under Junon after Cloud is back during Disk 2 features Aerith commenting that Priscilla's grandfather isn't too keen on her idea to open a flower stall here. She says to Tifa that she should come with her the next time she tries, as he wouldn't resist a "two-pronged charm offensive". However, Tifa worries that his heart may just give out.

Funny Moments specific to the alternative events of the Type B Scenario:

  • Cloud is as badass as in the Type A Scenario during the bombing of Reactor 1. However, when the team blows up a wall to flee the place, it's him (and not Wedge) who gets his trousers set on fire and comically runs around trying to extinguish it.
  • Cloud ticks off Barret more often in this version, prompting the latter to insult his spiky hair several times.
  • Tifa's and Cloud's talk about their promise happens outside in this version... and you can see Johnny and his friend listen to it hidden behind a sign, regularly moving to not be noticed. There's also a Funny Background Event: At the very beginning, Johnny and his friend hide in Johnny's house... but at one point Johnny's mother throws them out.
  • When Cloud decides he'll stay and work for AVALANCHE, Barret at one point still tries to ask him why he left SOLDIER. Cloud snarkily retorts it was to make money off poor saps like him.
  • In this version, the duct leading to Reactor 5 is sealed, meaning the team has to turn around. Barret doesn't let it bother him, and claims they have to move forwards. He then awkwardly corrects himself, telling he meant 'backwards'.
  • Rude's introduction. Cloud is a little confused when he hears his name, and Aerith has to clarify that this IS his name, not simply a comment on the fact that he rudely interrupted them. Cloud lampshades the weirdness of such a name.
  • Cloud agrees to protect Aerith from Rude... in exchange for 2500 Gil. Then he lowers it to 1500 when Rude calls him a punk. Then, once Rude is defeated, Aerith pretends that since she had to help, the price will be 500 Gil... That is, 500 Gil for HER, because she "doesn't work for as cheap" as he does; so once they subtract his wage to her own price, he still owes her money. But she will cut him a special deal: she'll settle with asking him one date. Cloud begrudgingly relents.
  • When Cloud, after being invited to take part to Elmyra's and Aerith's dinner, is asked to give his opinion on the food, the player can choose the (in)famous "I've had better dog food." answer.
  • Kotch's and Scotch's comments during the tournament which Cloud and Aerith enter to be allowed to meet Don Corneo are full of cheesy one-liners. Especially when the two heroes start the tournament, and they comment that it'll be a rough first date night for them.
  • After Cloud and Aerith win Corneo's tournament, the Don offers them a favour. The player can choose the 'right' answer (an access to Sector 7), or many joke answers. Including 'Honey Bee's finest'.
  • The choice options when Cloud encounters a group of COMMANDOs in front of Shinra Manor at Nibelheim. He can either bluntly admits he and his friends are AVALANCHE to prompt the fight, or that they are TOURISTS (in all caps).
  • The glorious attempt at a badass Pre-Mortem One-Liner, done by a Shinra Trooper at the top of Mount Nibel's bridge. "It's over AVALANCHE! I have the high ground!"

Funny Moments specific to older versions of the Mod:

  • This one will depend on your mood, because it's a HUGE Mood Whiplash and the desacralization of one of the most powerful scenes of the original. However, witnessing Cloud casually use a Phoenix Down on Aerith to bring her back in v. 1.4 and earlier versions can be weirdly hilarious, especially since it addresses a memetic Running Gag.
  • In earlier versions of the story, a spared Aerith will also be able to get on the Highwind... and will discover that she's airsick, to her dismay. She'll spend all her time with Yuffie.
  • In the older version, there is an optional dungeon called the Dark Cave, an illusion of Midgar created by a failed clone of Sephiroth. When the party enters it, all its members get separated. An amnesiac Yuffie has set up a trap on the giant hand in Sector 6's slum. She unleashes a hurricane of bad hand-related puns when she thinks she's caught the party.
Yuffie: I gotta 'hand' it to myself! Using bait to corner you suckers on this giant hand was genius! Now 'hand' over your Materia. Unless you wanna get hurt!
Cloud: Yuffie? What do you think you're doing?
Yuffie: You deaf? Give me your stuff! You better do what I say! Unless you want your ass 'hand'ed to you!
Cloud: We haven't got time for this! Snap out of it!
Yuffie: Don't think about fightin' me! I've got the upper 'hand' here! Last warning! You're forcing my 'hand' now!
