Fridge Brilliance

  • There are actually several clues to Madison's Self-Induced Allergic Reaction;
    • She pops an almond into her mouth immediately before starting to "turn."
    • Wichita never gets infected in spite of sharing finger food with her.
    • After seeing Albuquerque and Flagstaff's Viral Transformation, from T-800 zombies no less, Madison actually becomes much sicker, much more quickly in comparison.
    • She also shows some slightly different symptoms; the rashes on her face, flatulence. All of which wouldn't be out of place for an allergic reaction.
    • Albuquerque and Flagstaff become incoherent almost immediately after showing symptoms, but Madison is still ranting to Columbus about being a "monster" long after she first starts throwing up.
    • While we see the Ninja zombie bite her boot, we don't actually see any blood. Madison also doesn't express any pain or anything when she is "bitten."
  • Of course, the commune of hippies were spared infection. The initial infection was started by tainted meat. They're all vegans and avoided the primary source of the infection. Provided they could run and hide (and that their walls held up), they'd be just fine.
  • It might seem silly to think that zombies might be affected by pepper spray. But the idea they can be deterred by chemicals is actually showcased in the first Zombieland. When Columbus has to fight off a zombified 406, he ends up fending her off temporarily by spraying her in the mouth with something from an aerosol can. Either the sensation or flavor of which deters her long enough to let him get some distance. Showing that the zombies do maintain some sense of sensation and sensitivity to sources not caused by cutting or blunt force.
  • How could they do the Zombie Kill of the Year bit twice? The first one was done when the heroes entered the White House. Sometime later, they celebrate Christmas and then flash forward six weeks. Then we see the second one. Even though Little Rock says that they're celebrating Christmas in the middle of November, six weeks would be enough to put the two Zombie Kill of the Year bits in different years.
  • The sequel's subtitle is Double Tap. Not only does "double" normally refer to "two", but "double tap" is number two on Columbus' list of rules for survival.
  • The similarities between the Albuquerque-Flagstaff duo and Columbus-Tallahassee are because certain personality types and the dynamic between them are especially well-suited to survival.
  • How would Nevada (or anyone) know what happened to Bill Murray? He looks like a zombie and is dead, so logically anyone who found the body would assume he turned and got shot after, right? But zombies only die to head injuries, and Bill Murray was shot in the chest—since no weirdo is going around putting zombie makeup on corpses after the apocalypse, it's pretty easy to put two and two together.

Fridge Horror

  • It's easy to miss, but the "Day Zero" flashback seemingly takes place in the same mall where they find Madison. There's a fair chance that whoever she came with (parents, friends, etc.) was in the melee that Bill Murray ends up fighting trough.
  • The flashback confirms that most people were originally infected by tainted food. Unless you believe that Al Roker would have shown up for Murray's interview after getting bitten.
  • More of a tearjerker, but one of the first things we learn about Madison is that she's been living in a freezer for ten years. Meaning that:
    • If she's as old as her actress, she would have barely been a teen when the outbreak started.
    • Before Tallahassee and Columbus find her, she never even left the mall. Is it any wonder she is the way she is?
  • Babylon thought they were safe, as the climax shows, it is actually really easy to get into, only by pure dumb luck did no zombies come through, but, what about human antagonists? Like most zombie media, not everyone in Zombieland is going to be helpful or at least not hostile, if the Zombies can make it in, a couple of guys with guns and no morals would be able to make mincemeat out of them, seeing as they melt down arguably the most precious resource outside of food and water, and generally hold massive easily spotted parties.
  • How many people unknowingly had their allergic reaction triggered, only to killed because someone else thought that there were turning?
