Fridge Logic
The back-story of BX isn't simply weird, it's Continuity Snarl to the nth degree. While it combines the "Universal Century", "Advanced Generation" and "Anno Domini" Alternate Universes, some of the outcomes through this combination raises questions. First off, the pre-BX timeline is essentially as follows:
- 49 years pre-BX, Flit Asuno pilots the first Gundam called the "AGE-1" built by the Earth Federation against the "Unknown Enemy" (later known as the Vagan). 25 years later, Flit's son Asemu Asuno pilots the second Federation-built "AGE-2" against the Vagan.
- 17 years pre-BX, the "One Year War" occurs and Amuro Ray uses the third Earth Federation RX-78-2 Gundam (simply called "the Gundam") against the Principality of Zeon.
- 11 years pre-BX, Kamille Bidan and the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) defeats the corrupt Federation special forces group, the Titans. One year later, Judau Ashta joins the AEUG to combat the Neo Zeon.
- 7 years pre-BX, Setsuna F. Seiei and Celestial Being start their anti-war interventions. Four years later, the "Second Neo Zeon War" breaks out and two years before the start of BX, Celestial Being destroys the A-LAWS.
Although the timeline might look fine on paper, there's plenty of illogical fallacies inherent:
- How can the Celestial Being's armed intervention occur when the Earth Federation has already existed for nearly a century when BX happens? Recall the Federation in Gundam 00 is formed after Celestial Being makes themselves known and as a response to their actions.
- Simple: The Earth Federation is usually heavily corrupt to a point. Celestial Being is just leading to the creation of a better Earth Federation!
- How can Amuro's RX-78-2 unit be deemed as "the Gundam" when there were already two Gundams who've existed years before the One Year War?
- Simple: The RX-78-2 is the first Gundam-type Mobile Suit built by the Earth Federation and not created by the power of the AGE Builder. If anything, the RX-78-2 could be considered the in-universe version of the Legendary Mobile Suit "The Gundam"
- Furthermore, because the events surrounding the SDF-1 Macross happens before the Vagan attacked Earth 49 years ago, how can Macross tech reach Macross Frontier-levels by the time BX happens? Moreover, which series is influencing the other technologically: Gundam or Macross?
- Speaking of technology, the One Year War came after the ones Flit and Asemu fought in, respectively, yet it appears Advanced Generation-tech has regressed to pre-One Year War.
- If Mars is supposedly uninhabitable due to the "Mars rays", how exactly did the Martian Successor Nadesico plot ever occur, when it relies on Mars to begin with?
- The real bit of Fridge Logic surrounding the backstory - The Zentradi War's end happened at the same time as the Axis Shock. We know this because the Trans Am Burst that was a part of the Axis Shock stopped the Zentradi War. But if that's the case, then HOW is Macross Frontier, which takes place FOURTY SEVEN YEARS AFTER the original Macross, already happening? Now, there's time screwery going around all over the place - Alto doesn't remember meeting the 30 cast, so he's from before then, while the rest of the Frontier crew come from after it, and the three members of the 30 crew are fairly certain they've gone back in time, but even if you assume every member of the Macross F and 30 cast are back in time, how does that explain the Earth Federation having access to Macross F's Ghost tech BEFORE they get back? And there's no way they managed to advance from SDF's tech to that in all of three years, the gap is way too huge!
Fridge Horror
- Flit was just a child when the SDF-1 Macross was discovered and was the first Gundam pilot in BX, most likely fighting the Vagan during his and Asemu's generation. The fact he's still alive at the start of BX implies he's also fought throughout the various Universal Century conflicts, including Celestial Being's armed intervention. It's not hard to see why Flit has his Fantastic Racism and is so bitter, cynical and jaded after all these years.
Fridge Brilliance
- The Dark Hound and the Legillis's Partner Bonuses work well together, which works because Asemu and Zeheart's rivalry/friendship. However, their attack ranges clash and their partner bonuses don't overlap, further emphasizing their rivalry.
- A bit of a meta-fridge: Chouryujin, Gekiryujin, and Big Volfogg being combined from the start doesn't SEEM to make much sense early on, but take it from the perspective of practice for the other Brave series getting in: None of the other Brave robots that combine outside of maybe J-Decker's really show many weapons before combining, so them coming in precombined is obvious, and as for Volfogg it's much the same with Shadow Dagwon! Of course, this only works if we actually GET more Braves in SRW afterwards...
