  • During the famous clash between Darth Vader and Darth Maul, Vader states that he won because his hatred for himself were stronger than Maul's. At first glance, it might seem like generic Wangst. But thinking about it, the line makes perfect sense in-context.
    • The battle is won once Vader impales himself on his own lightsaber as Maul descends upon his foe's seemingly unprotected back. Considering Vader's mutilated body and iron prison that he cannot live apart from, it makes perfect sense that Vader would be able to muster up the resentment to bring harm upon to himself in the manner that he did without hesitation.
    • Also, Maul was raised practically from the cradle to be a Sith weapon. Deep down inside Vader, Anakin, who was a sweet, loving, caring guy, is still in there somewhere.
