Fridge Brilliance

  • An in-universe one that doubles with Fridge Horror is, of course, it is the same mobsters who knocked off Vito's father that Vito is now working for. His father worked for the same docks and borrowed money from the same criminals. Vito has to be deliberately blind to not put two and two together.
  • Vito's ten year sentence for selling gas stamps seems excessive but given they expired that very night, it's not that hard to tie him to the robbery that took them in the first place. It's also during wartime as the judge points out. The real reason is that Clemente's lawyer did nothing to protect Vito. He was only there to make sure that Vito didn't try to cut a deal.
    • Alternatively, given that Vito is Italian, the lawyer probably spent his entire effort into not getting Vito accused of being an Axis spy and given the death penalty.
  • The manner of Marty Santorelli's death can be pieced together from a variety of things. He's carrying a piece that Joe told him not to show and to keep the car running. We see his corpse outside of the car, though, with his gun beside him. Seeing Clemente flee, he obviously tried to engage him but was killed by his bodyguards. Had he just stayed in the car, he probably would have been fine.
  • Henry being a rat is foreshadowed throughout the game. He speaks perfect English and his Shrouded In Mystery past is a little too cinematic for the dirty realism of the world. Something that Vito comments on. The cops also have a tendency to show up in every mission he's involved in. Henry can even tell real cops from fake cops just by the kinds of shoes they were. Finally, Henry is the only person who insists on no killing during a heist.
  • In Chapter 9 Vito gets covered in shit while sneaking into a meat factory via a sewer to find some mob associates. Once he completes the job, and goes back to the mission giver, they'll always remark how he reeks of shit, even if he just changed. The shit's stench is so strong that not even changing will get rid of the smell, and there's always going to be a blind spot somewhere.
  • A bit of Dramatic Irony is that Vito always subscribes to Honor Among Thieves in his interactions with his fellow gangsters. This results in him constantly getting screwed over because there's no such thing. He only survives by letting Joe be carted off as well.
  • Joe and Vito's stories serve as Book Ends. Vito began his story by being enrolled in the army against his will when Joe let him take the fall for a crime they did together. Joe's story ends when he's carted off to be murdered while Vito can do nothing to help him.

Fridge Horror

  • In Chapter 9 Vito gets covered in shit while sneaking into a meat factory via a sewer to find some mob associates. While sneaking around he takes cover behind dead pigs (while still covered in shit may I add.) to be shipped to the local grocers and quite possibly infecting some of Empire Bay's meat supply with E coli.
    • Human shit can't spread that, but still.
  • Vito's sister is going to continue to be trapped in an abusive marriage with no one to protect her.
  • Mafia III can be this for Joe and Vito.
    • Either Joe ended up saving himself only to be murdered by the very people in Chicago who were supposed to help him or he he ended up becoming Leo Galante's slave, spending the rest of his life as a unacknowledged flunky.
    • Vito ends up being a mid-level boss disrespected and disliked by the local The Don for over a decade. He either ends up killed, slightly better off than before, or hits the Karmic Jackpot.
