Vito

  • Vito gets one just for virtue of being part of the Greatest Generation. We open with an Establishing Character Moment that has him helping the Italian Resistance against Mussolini. He's already someone who wants to punch up by helping the little guy against fascists. He manages to lead an assault against a palace and rescue numerous Resistance members before he's knocked out by tank fire. Note: knocked out by tank fire.
  • Vito defending his sister from a Loan Shark is a small moment but a memorable one.
  • Vito shows he's got what it takes to be a mobster by stealing a fancy car from the Bombers gang as his first act upon the city. He also sees through the attempt to cheat him of his payment and adds half again to what he's owed. It's an easy first mission but shows he's utterly fearless and willing to do whatever it takes to make money.
  • If Vito does Enemy of the State perfectly then he breaks into a federal building, dodges or disables a half-dozen guards, disables the security system, makes off with 10,000 gallons worth of ration stamps, and then drives all of the city at a top rate of speed to sell them before they expire at midnight. Too bad it gets him sent to prison.
  • Vito manages to take down an entire portion of the Irish mob The Buzzsaw starting with using an army machine gun and then going into a building that's soon set on fire. When Henry is injured, he then drives him around town to get him to a doctor called El Greco in order to prevent him from bleeding to death.
  • Vito takes his ten-year sentence like a champ. He refuses to rat out the mafia, befriends Leo Galante inside, and eventually makes life easier for himself by getting involved in prison boxing. He also shivs Brian O'Neill and narrowly avoids Prison Rape so it's not all smiles and sunshine.
  • Balls and Beans has Vito sneak into a slaughterhouse (unfortunately getting covered in raw sewage along the way) via a sewer. He proceeds to sneak past the guards and workers before rescuing a group of his fellow mobsters. From there, it's a massive shoot-out that he handles with aplomb.
    • This is doubly special because it is the mission that results in Vito being turned into a Made Man, including Awesome Moment of Crowning.
  • In A Friend of Ours, Vito decides to go against his boss and save the life of Leo Galante. It goes hilariously wrong but The Power of Friendship with Henry saves the day.
  • Vito is given a Suicide Mission by Leo Galante to assassinate Don Falcone as repayment for all the mobsters and Triads he's killed. He launches a One-Man Army assault on the Observatory where he's holed up and single-handedly exterminates his entire gang. Well, until Joe helps.

Joe

  • Joe shows what kind of connections he's built since Vito went to war by immediately getting him out of returning to the Italian front. It takes nothing more than a phone call.
  • While a bit crass, Joe's life of Hookers and Beer is pretty damn impressive compared to the squalor most immigrants in the city live in. Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Gangster! indeed.
  • Federico and Steve are so impressed by Joe that Vito casually dropping his name is enough to get him hired as an enforcer for their operation on the docks.
  • Joe provides support on a lot of Vito's missions, shooting up police and other mobsters both. He's certainly not a friend to leave someone behind.
  • Joe actually comes up with a pretty intelligent plan to assassinate Clemente. He believes they should use a bomb, disguises, and a window washer's platform to carry out the assassination. It almost works except for bad stupid luck.
  • Joe's best moment of awesome is when he turns down being a capo for Don Falcone to help Vito.
  • In Joe's Adventures, Joe tracks down the gas station attendant who ratted on Vito then beats him into not testifying. He also tracks down another mob stool pigeon, guns down a dozen police officers, chases him in a car over a frozen lake, and then dumps him into it to drown.

Joe and Vito

  • Murphy's Law has Joe and Vito rob a jewelry store in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, things go absolutely pear-shaped when the Irish Mob drives a car through the front door instead of doing it softly like Joe and Vito. They have to fight it out with the Irish Mob and police both before escaping.
  • Subverted by The Wild Ones where Vito, Joe, Steve, and Marty Santorelli slaughter a small army of Greaser Delinquents. All this accomplishes is massive Disproportionate Retribution over a half-empty truck full of stolen cigarettes.
  • Joe, Henry, and Vito tear apart an army of fake cops while leaving a Triad factory in Sea Gift. This may include blowing up a gas carrier in order to wipe their opponent's out in an explosion Michael Bay would be proud of.
  • Joe and Vito avenge Henry's death by wiping out half the Triads in the city in an all out assault on their headquarters. There's a reason both of them were the most feared mobsters in Empire Bay.
  • Joe and Vito are both captured by Don Vinci who wants to know about their part in the Triad attack. They both deny any involvement and are subsequently beaten within an inch of their lives. The two proceed to then slaughter most of Vinci's goons and escape the construction site.
  • Joe and Vito have one final adventure where Joe turns against Don Falcone and they manage to take out him and his goons in the Planetarium.

Federico 'Derek' Pappalardo

  • When Vito claims to be Joe's friend, Derek has a very good way of testing it. He puts his gun on the table and calls Joe, letting the Implied Death Threat linger as he gives him a number of outs. It's clear Federico doesn't suffer people claiming mob connections they don't have. Much to his surprise, Joe actually does know Vito. Still, the casual Affably Evil menace is a great Establishing Character Moment.
