Fridge Brilliance

  • Considering how hololive, especially the Japanese branch, is so intent on keeping their talents as pure idols for atleast their debut, it might come as a shock that Aloe not only admitted to wanting to get teased, but also tweeted out the official design for her panties and even said that people would want to lick said panties. Then you remember that she is a succubus, and suddenly it makes perfect sense.
  • By Botan's own admission she preferred the Xbox 360 to the Playstation 3. To a westerner, this wouldn't sound noteworthy until one recalls that the Xbox was widely derided in Japan as "that console with all the shooter games". Botan, however, adores shooters, so it was only natural that she would gravitate towards the Xbox 360.
    • Becomes more obvious when you realize that she tends to sing her "La~Lion" greeting to the tune of the Halo theme.
  • Anya Melfissa's skill of sleeping while standing references the ability for a Keris to stand upright on the tip of its blade note , since Anya is a keris who gained human form.
  • Given that Calliope Mori is a rapping reaper, it is no wonder she adores Persona 3 FES, which explores the themes of life and death in great depth, and whose music is mostly made up of rap and rap-adjacent music. It's practically designed for her!
  • Amelia Watson, a detective designed after Sherlock Holmes but has the surname of Watson instead... and she is a time traveler all of a sudden one day. When one remembers that Watson has the title of "Dr." and it suddenly makes sense in a crazy way.
  • Kiara and Reine objecting to being compared to poultry like Chicken and Turkey make sense as they are species of birds that exist mainly to be food and/or make food (laying eggs) and are considered rather ugly. Naturally, any bird-based person would find it insulting let alone ones based on beautiful birds like Peafowl and Phoenixes.
  • Sana Tsukomo's hair is very similar in color to Cosmic Latte, which is believed to be the average color of the universe. This makes perfect sense for the avatar of space itself.
  • Some people have pointed out the inherent Mood Whiplash between the regal descriptions of the members of The Council and the actual natures of the v-tubers behind the avatars as ultimately comedy-oriented streamers. However, the idea of (beings close to) Physical Gods with mortal-like desires, behaviors and flaws is far from new - it's present to some degree in almost every polytheistic pantheon. Perhaps the best example of the idea is the Greco-Roman pantheon, a dysfunctional assembly of bickering deities, all serving their own all-too-human interests. Some of them even managed to suck at the thing they're supposed to be god of. For instance Ares, the god of war, got his ass kicked in combat more often than not. So when Mumei inevitably sucks at playing Civilization, don't be too surprised.
  • Quoted directly from the Pokémon: Generation IV Families page, where it came up in a discussion of why Arceus is depicted as it is, According to The Other Wiki, "the Qilin in Japan is regarded as the most powerful creature in mythology, even more than the phoenix and dragon." Given the Serial Escalation Hololive lore tends to take on, especially in English Branch, it's no surprise that the "EN Gen 0" Dragon would be met first with a phoenix in Gen 1, only to top that with a Kirin in Gen 2....Lament that this mythological group never got to stream together as Council had yet to debut when Coco graduated.
  • Mumei's dressed as an adventurer because Civilization is constantly trying to explore and expand, whether to new lands, the stars, or each other's nations. As for her forgetfulness, Future Imperfect, Dated History, Lost Common Knowledge, and Written by the Winners are all tropes for a reason; there's already so much history lost, misremembered, misinterpreted, and rewritten that it shouldn't be a surprise Mumei can hardly remember anything.
    • Her mindset of "I must break her to fix her" in regards to NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD has its roots in how civilization often needs to suffer a setback before progress, most infamously demonstrated by the black death and its aftermath, which gave rise to modern civilization.
  • In a way, revealing the existence of HoloX on the exact same day as their first member's debut makes sense. After all, a secret society would want to keep themselves secret for as long as possible.
  • Why is Ina the eldritch priestess? Because in the Cthulhu Mythos, artists are usually the first and hardest hit by the aura of insanity seeping from the various Eldritch Abominations. Their active and creative mind is a fertile ground for visions, allowing the madness of the Ancient Ones to easily take hold.
  • On a similar vein to HoloX, Utsugi Uyu’s total absence when UPROAR!! was first teased in Holostars’ first concert note  makes more sense after the reveal that he’s a Phantom Thief - a thief would love to keep himself hidden for as long as he can after all.
  • According to Magni, the name "Tempus" means "changing of times". True enough, the presence of Tempus brought a lot of change in Hololive such as their collaborations with Hololive English branch, Holostars Japanese branch, and many indie Western vtubers such as Scarra, Merry, Oni Giri, girl_dm, Shoto, rpr among others. The first successful Nijisaji-Hololive English collab was initiated by their leader, Altare, breaking the barrier between the two companies.
    • In Altare's character description, it's mentioned that he "dislikes stagnation and the status quo" which makes sense given that he initiated the first collab with Nijisanji because he wants to play with his friend, Alban Knox, and nothing should be holding them back from collabing.
  • It was announced that Tempus is gaining four new members which makes sense given that Tempus is a guild where there would be more people to join. In fact, Altare reveals some lore that Bettel and Flayon were sent to find recruits and they brought two new members from the foreign country called Xenokuni.
  • In their introduction, it's mentioned that Shiori was driving the Advent getaway car that crashed into Cover offices. Shiori happens to wear thick soled boots that would make it exceptionally difficult to drive safely.
  • Shiori being an "archiver" makes sense when she mentions that her vtuber oshis are from a time "before any boom" (referring to the vtuber boom of the early 2020s) and that they'd already graduated (one of her oshis was hinted to be HANJO! TV's Kimino Miya, who graduated in September of 2021). This means she has a lore reason to go "back to the archives" to bring up stories about vtubers before her time in Hololive.
  • Why is the tip of Flayon's tail super sensitive? He notes that's what he uses to power up the R-TRUS. Now, imagine a car key turning on the ignition to start a car. When you turn the key, it completes an electrical circuit, allowing the car to start. With that in mind, put two and two together.
  • Goldbullet, a sniper, often brings a campground motif when he streams. Now, what's the common tactic for a sniper in a multiplayer environment?

Fridge Horror

  • Korone Inugami's stated breed is Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a breed that suffers from significant health issues, including a 90% rate of Chairi malformation note  and a 70% rate of syringomyelia by age 6. It's more likely than not that she is (or will be) suffering constant pain, seizures, and movement problems due to these conditions.
  • While Mori Calliope is arguably one of the sweetest in Hololive EN, her description of how her existence as Death itself works gets disturbing the more you think about it. Despite how comforting and lighthearted she manages to make the concept, there's bound to be some creepiness afoot however way you slice it, not to mention some off-putting lyrics in songs like "Dead Beats" that suggest she still has a bit of violent side...
Then I get a rush of adrenaline, I think I like you!
Wanna feel my five-foot scythe inside you
I would die for you!!! And that adorable scream
Curious, would you die for me?
  • While Kiara Takanashi's Resurrective Immortality is mostly used for Mundane Utility gags, the fridge horror kicks in when you remember Calliope Mori has known her for eternity. Every time Kiara dies and is reborn, she loses her memories of her past life (but slowly regains them). Calli has likely witnessed Kiara die countless times and every time she is reborn, she fails to remember who Calli is or the friendship between them. Part of Calli's Tsundere attitude could come from the bitterness of dealing with this cycle for ages.
  • During the EN Myth 1 year anniversary, Smol Ame showed the different timelines of her genmates, which were all just rooms themed after each of them. Amelia's room is a desert wasteland of sand and clock faces, with a single bus stop sign and bench, where a Smol Ame and Bubba are resting with peaceful looks on their faces. This is the Natural End of Time. The final resting place for Amelia across all timelines, after her adventures come to an end. Destined to someday stop and rest at that bus stop, perhaps not dead, but frozen in time to never again wake up.
  • According to Astel’s backstory video, he and his crew were originally sent to earth to conquer it for their home planet Nepelomacchia before they crashed into Earth and were separated, with Astel losing his memories and being recruited by Shinove. He seems happy on Earth, but it’s stated that he’s only working as an idol until he’s able to find his crew and regain his memories. Shinove and the other Holostars may be forced to keep Astel from reuniting with his crew in order to ensure the safety and independence of Earth.
  • Sora is famously known for being damn near unflappable when it comes to horror games, but one moment in her Phasmophobia VR stream actually manages to get her to scream in terror before being caught by the ghost. Watching closely shows that Sora wasn't afraid of the ghost itself, but the footsteps preceding its attack, like someone was about to sneak up and attack her from behind, and her being on a VR headset only amplified the terror. Sora was genuinely afraid of something that can happen in real life, especially considering her career as an idol.
  • Aside from FUWAMOCO being locked up in the Cell for simply being a royal pain in the ass, it is stated that it's where anything that is deemed "dangerous" is put. The actual threats include someone with forbidden knowledge that the gods didn't want known, a living jewel (made of crystallized human emotion, mind you) that had people going to war just to own her, and a singer whose musical prowess became a potential cause of madness for the entire world. So one can only wonder: what other entities could possibly be locked in there, just waiting to be released?
  • Bettel's Peanut Gallery has several human skeletons in it, which he awkwardly tries to explain away as being props. Those implications are creepy enough, but it gets even worse with the reveal that he's secretly made a Deal with the Devil with Phantom, and his end of the bargain consists of finding souls for Phantom to devour. Now...are those skeletons props, or are they the long-decomposed remains of some of the people Phantom ate?

Fridge Logic

  • Haachama revealed(?) that she's the secret daughter of famous chef Gordon Ramsay in her 2nd rainbow ramen Haachama Cooking stream. When initially this seems to line up with her partial British ancestry, it presents a problem when taking into account the fact that Haato has said her father is half-Japanese in the past. According to the lore established in the HAACHAMA×Akaihaato arc, Haato and Haachama are confirmed to be sisters for all intents and purposes, meaning they should have the same father. So how is this possible? Is hololive's incarnation of Gordon Ramsay half-Japanese? Or are Haato and Haachama not actually blood sisters?
    • They could possibly be sisters from their mother's side, rather than their father's.
