You Have Been Warned.Fridge Horror When hitting on Murron, the lecherous English soldier Smythe creepily says "You remind me of my daughter back home." Since he attempts to rape her a moment later, it raises rather disturbing questions about his relationship with said daughter.Fridge Sadness Prince Edward can be considered the most tragic character in the whole movie. Not only because of the misery he gets dished (an abusive father, a marriage he doesn't want, a wife he doesn't feel attracted to, the loss of Phillip, having no one else to just vent, a responsibility that is way to big for him, Isabella's infidelity and her planning to overthrow him) but he suffers all this because he was born into it. Neither his father nor his sexuality nor his interests are his choice, but he gets heaped the blame either way. In a movie about freedom, he is the only one who will never be free, because he was born trapped.
