Fridge / Big Jake

  • When Michael shows his lack of prowess with the pistol Jake doesn't realize the gun fires eight times, not six. O'Brien (being of an earlier era like Jake) makes the same mistake when he allows James to draw on him. He's counted the shots as a pistol will sound different to a revolver and thinks as James has fired six times he's out of ammunition. He therefore thinks he's giving a man with an empty gun a chance to draw on him (which is no chance at all) but gets a lethal surprise.

    • Refridgerated Container Moment - The writers of Big Jake were Harry Julian and Rita M Fink. They also wrote Dirty Harry where the idea of counting shots is used to memorable effect. Did they first get the idea for Big Jake but make it explicit in Dirty Harry?
