Fridge Brilliance

  • A pretty good case could be made that in the "competition" with his aunts, Jonathan had already won, but would never be aware of it. The two aunts were counting a man who had come into their house and died of natural causes. In fact, it was his sudden death that inspired their current crusade. However, most rational people wouldn't count that first individual as one of their victims. Meanwhile, despite Dr. Einstein's protestations to the contrary, most courts of law would agree with Jonathon's assessment of the situation that the man in South Bend wouldn't have died of pneumonia if Jonny hadn't shot him. Meaning that the aunts technically had eleven victims, and Jonny had thirteen, as he claimed.
  • Dr Einstein's interactions with Teddy are surprisingly sweet, as he has no trouble playing along with his delusions and even seems to consider him a friend, trying to protect him from Jonathan. Makes sense when you consider all the time he has spent with Jonathan; he's used to dealing with the insane, and knows when to humor them. And while the neighbors find Teddy frightening, Einstein quickly spots that he's harmless, because he's seen the other type of madness up close.

Fridge Horror

  • Jonathan makes reference to Aunt Martha's high collars hiding scarring from where "Grandfather's acid burned you." Given what we learn of the family's history of mental health issues, one has to wonder if that was an accident, or a deliberate act, and whether Martha and Abby's serial killing tendencies come purely from said mental health issues or also from trauma that they suffered as children.
