Sangaile, left. Austa, right.
A 2015 Lithuanian film (in the original language, Sangailės vasara), this drama revolves around teenager Sangaile as she meets Austa, another girl and gets into a relationship with her. At the same time, she struggles with her own demons and fears, which her girlfriend seeks to help her overcome.

Examples:

  • Ambiguously Bi: Sangaile has sex with Saulius, a male friend of Auste, early on. She doesn't seem to be very into it, however, only having enthusiastic encounters with Auste. It's left unclear why she even did it, as there was no buildup before the act.
  • Arc Number: 17. It's Sangaile's age, plus recurring in several other ways.
  • Auto Erotica: Sangaile has sex with Saulius in his car very early on, though she's more concerned with listening to the sound of planes flying by overhead.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sangaile and Auste don't stay together, but they're still friends. Both have moved on to live out their dreams, Auste by getting into fashion school and Sangaile becoming a pilot at the air show.
  • Hand-or-Object Underwear: When Auste has Sangaile undress to measure her for a dress which Auste's making her, she self-consciously covers her breasts with both hands at first.
  • Ironic Name: Sangaile means "with strength". However, Sangaile is pretty quiet and passive, while noting her mom said she didn't really deserve her name. A major part of her arc includes growing strong and fulfilling it.
  • Irony: Sangaile loves planes (the film opens on her attending an air show) but ironically has vertigo, so she's never been in one at the start.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Auste likes to wear dresses, have stylish hair and otherwise acts very feminine. She's interested in fashion and making clothes. While Sangaile isn't nearly as girlish, she's still very far from butch in her style.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Two of Auste's friends have sex in the grass by the water where all of them had been swimming. Later Sangaile and Auste also have sex for their first time in a field.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: In a female/female version, Auste serves as one to Sangaile. Unlike Sangaile who's a shy, reserved girl starting out, she's bold and carefree. Her influence serves to bring Sangaile out of her shell. In fact it's deconstructed somewhat, since Auste is simultaneously much too casual about things such as Sangaile self-harming, and pushes her to fly in spite of having vertigo. Even so, she helps Sangaile overcome her problems.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Sangaile and Auste both show copious nudity in the film, along with sex scenes together. They're very beautiful young women, which is showcased by Auste herself with photography.
  • Next Thing They Knew: The scene cuts from Saulius taking Sangaile to a place they can hear planes, to her having sex with him in his car (as she listens to them). Before, there was no real buildup to this, and it's unexplained why Sangaile did it.
  • Queer Romance: Sangaile meets Auste in the first scenes, becomes friends with her, then they get involved and their relationship remains core to the rest of the film.
  • Parental Neglect: Neither of Sangaile's parents seem to realize, or perhaps care, that she cuts herself.
  • Self-Harm: Sangaile cuts herself frequently, having both her forearms crisscrossed with scars. Auste is casual about it, even telling her to do seventeen so it matches Sangaile's age, while cutting her arm too in solidarity. It seems to be a coping mechanism for negative feelings, since Sangaile mentions she first cut herself after her mom had said she's weak. It's not explicitly stated, but implied that by the end she's stopped.
  • Shower Scene: Sangaile takes a shower (in which she's shown topless) as she contemplates the sunlight coming in.
  • Their First Time: Sangaile and Auste have sex together the first time about halfway into the film.
