Adele, a nice, shy girl, is caring for her very ill aunt Dora. Soon she meets free-spirited, rebellious Beth at a bar. They strike up a friendship, which soon grows into more while Adele is drawn to her. Beth leads Adele into harmful behavior while she neglects her aunt, and is far more dangerous than she seems at first...

Examples:

  • The '80s: The film is set in the Reagan Presidency, since Reagan is shown on TV while giving a live address, though the story doesn't feature 80s stereotypes. Another clue is how no one used a cell phone, even Beth and Adele, both young women.
  • All-Natural Snake Oil: Beth has Adele buy a "natural" heart medication because it's cheaper and also claims pharmaceutical companies only care about money so they put out inferior products. Dora, who needs this, dies because it apparently didn't work.
  • Bathtub Scene: Adele is shown taking a bath in the tub after her unappealing sex with a man, experiencing strange visions and occurrences before Beth's sudden appearance. She isn't shown past her shoulders.
  • Depraved Bisexual: Beth leads Adele into increasingly destructive behavior while getting involved with her. She previously had random sex with a guy from which she'd got pregnant and a man's seen lying in her bed when Adele goes to visit her at home. Later it's revealed that she is a Life Drinker, stealing people's youth. This gets downplayed though since Adele also seems to be bisexual, both attracted by her and having sex with a man when Beth rejects her.
  • Disappeared Dad: Adele tells Beth her dad died in a car accident when she was a seven year old.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: Adele curtly invites a man she had met in a bar to go home with her, which he instantly accepts, then has unsatisfying sex with him.
  • Exposition of Immortality: The photo of Beth and Dora, Adele's aunt (who'd just died an old woman) with both looking young years ago shows how she's actually much older than she looks.
  • First Kiss: After much obvious sexual tension (including Beth kissing her hand and saying she loves her) Adele at last kisses her on the lips. However, after this Beth acts like this meant nothing, hurting Adele deeply.
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Beth initially told Adele she's pregnant and what she'll name the baby if it's a girl. However, later she's had an abortion. This is treated neutrally.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: Blonde Adele is a more innocent, obedient and naïve girl. Brunette Beth in contrast is seductive, rebellious and experienced.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Adele starts out as a very sweet blonde young woman who cares for her aunt, who's quite ill. Influenced by Beth however she becomes far more callous to the point of her neglect killing her aunt.
  • It Meant Something to Me: Adele is quite hurt to learn Beth didn't see them as being “together”, despite kissing and caressing her earlier in a very affectionate way.
  • Leg Focus:
    • Beth often wears very short dresses, skirts and shorts which show off her long tan legs.
    • Adele also wears tights which show off her own shapely legs once.
  • Life Drinker: It turns out Beth is one, taking Adele's youth in the end, having done this to her aunt before as well.
  • Light Feminine Dark Feminine: Adele starts out as very sweet and naïve. Her friend and later romantic interest Beth is rebellious and worldly.
  • Lingerie Scene: Adele and Beth are both seen wearing only their lingerie while trying on clothes or having sex with a guy in Adele's case.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Adele is a Girly Girl with long hair who shows an instant attraction to Beth (she returns this), who's a bit less feminine than her. Both are more lipstick bisexuals as they show or relate attraction for guys too.
  • Longing Look: Adele gives Beth several, starting with when she first sees her in the grocery store while she's in a revealing top and skirt. Her gaze fixes on Beth's naked back later when they try on clothes together too. It's thus not surprising at all when Adele is confirmed as attracted to her. Beth notices, as she confirms when they have a drink in the bar together.
  • Love Confession: Beth whispers she loves Adele after the two have been hanging out together, naturally making Adele think they're an item (but it turns out this isn't the case).
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Beth tells Adele that she had casual sex on a beach with a man they just met, as did her friend.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Adele and Beth are both beautiful young women, their good looks (especially Beth's) highlighted with various revealing outfits that show off their bare stomachs and legs (along with a Toplessness from the Back shot while changing clothes).
  • One-Night-Stand Pregnancy: Beth got pregnant due to hooking up one time with a stranger.
  • Opposites Attract: Sweet, shy pale-skinned blonde Adele is attracted to bold, confident Beth who's a brunette with olive skin, reciprocating her attraction.
  • Pseudo-Romantic Friendship: Adele is obviously attracted to Beth right away. It seems that Beth reciprocates, with her whispering how she loves Adele in her ear, kissing her hand, lying beside her intimately and at last kissing Adele on the lips. Nothing is explicitly said, but you can't blame Adele for her belief they're a couple. Beth though dismisses the idea, hurting Adele deeply. It appears she'd only been interested in Adele for her youth.
  • Rapid Aging: Adele quickly ages into decrepitude at the end when Beth takes her youth, while her younger sister Dori starts taking care of her (just as Adele's done with her aunt prior).
  • Really 700 Years Old: Beth is far older than she looks, as a Life Drinker who drains other people's youth. She is shown at the end in photos with Dora years back when the latter was a young woman and appears no older than at present.
  • Riddle for the Ages: The film never explains what Beth is. Some kind of witch? An inhuman monster who appears like a girl but isn't? All we know is she lives by taking people's youth.
  • Shoulders-Up Nudity: Adela takes both a shower and bath in the film, with the camera always staying at her shoulder level.
  • Shower Scene: Early on, Adele showers in her aunt's house and gets rust washing over her from the old pipe.
  • The Shut-In: Adele's aunt Dora is a severe agoraphobe who's quite ill. Even with Adele, her caretaker, she only communicates through notes pushed out from under her door.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Adele starts out as a sweet girl taking care of her aunt. Influenced by Beth though Adele's soon neglected her aunt to the point of her death from ineffective heart medication Adele bought instead at Beth's urging so she could pocket the money left over since it was a cheaper price.
  • Toplessness from the Back: Beth is shown this way while changing clothes, as Adele notices (indicating her attraction before the two actually get intimate later).
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Beth inspires Adele to buy cheap versions of things her aunt Dora needs so she can pocket the difference, and eventually it extends to Dora's medication, which causes her death.
  • The Unfair Sex: Adele says "men are pigs" after Beth tells her how she and her friend had random casual sex with a guy they met on the beach. Just how is he different than them given that scenario? They even initiated it. You can likely blame this one on Adele sucking up to Beth though, as she's very attracted by her.
  • Uptight Loves Wild: Adele is a subdued, lonely, obedient girl at first. She's drawn to bold, social and rebellious Beth, as her friend initially but then believes they're an item too given Beth's actions.
  • Workout Fanservice: Beth is shown in a sports bra and shorts twice after she's been running, showing off her good-looking athletic body.
