Elvis Presley's 22nd feature film, Spinout is a 1966 musical romantic comedy directed by Norman Taurog.

Mike McCoy (Presley) is a rock star who travels around the country with his band when he's not racing cars. He catches the romantic interest of Cynthia Foxhugh (Shelley Fabares), the daughter of car manufacturer Howard Foxhugh (Carl Betz), who wants Mike to drive his newest creation in an upcoming race. Also vying for Mike's affections are Diana St. Clair (Diane Mc Bain), a popular author who writes advice books about men for women, and Mike's drummer Les (Deborah Walley), who struggles with making her bandmates regard her as a woman.

Tropes:

  • Commitment Issues: Mike is absolutely against getting married and is terrified by Cynthia and Diana's declared intentions to marry him.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Turns out that Les is not short for Leslie, but Lester, which she doesn't like, hence why she goes by Les.
  • Faint in Shock: A Running Gag is Foxhugh's employee Philip fainting whenever he hears something that shocks him. Cynthia explains he's very sensitive.
  • Flirtatious Smack on the Ass: Police officer Tracy pretends to make Les "stick 'em up" and has her turn around, upon which he smacks her butt, joking that he wanted to see if she was packing a gun.
  • One of the Boys: Les is the only girl in Mike's band, dresses very boyishly (initially she looks like she's cosplaying as one of The Beatles) and imitates their rough behavior to a certain extent. She still would prefer that her bandmates remembered that she's a girl and resents it whenever they call her "fella".
  • Shout-Out: The Ed Sullivan Show is name-checked as Mike's bandmates discuss their future, referencing Elvis' own appearances on the aforementioned variety show.
  • Supreme Chef: Les is shown to be a skilled cook with a significant knowledge of French recipes.
  • Through His Stomach: Les charms Tracy through her exceptional cooking; it helps that he's as enthusiastic about French cuisine as her.
  • Wedding Finale: In the end, Mike is pressured to pick one of the three women who've been chasing him. He says he'll marry them all. Cut to him at a triple wedding ceremony, marrying the women to different suitors (Cynthia to Philip, Diana to Howard, Les to Tracy).
