Elvis Presley's 27th feature film, Speedway is a 1968 musical romantic comedy/sports film directed by Norman Taurog.

Race car pilot Steve Grayson (Presley) is generous with his money and likes to help out both friends and people he hardly knows with their financial troubles. His best friend, Kenny Donford (Bill Bixby), is his manager, but his poor handling of Steve's money attracts the undesirable attention of the IRS. Auditor Susan Jacks (Nancy Sinatra) is sent to keep tabs on Steve, only for the two to fall in love.

Tropes:

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Steve and Susan are mutually hostile and snarky since she is auditing him, but fall in love with each other all the same.
  • Bouquet Toss: Steve receives the bouquet tossed by Lori at her wedding. He is nonplussed and tosses it further back so that it ends up in Susan's hands for a bit of Ship Tease.
  • The Gambling Addict: Kenny compulsively bets on horses and has wasted a lot of Steve's money because of it.
  • Lives in a Van: Abel lives in a broken car with his five little daughters. Steve, in his generosity, buys him a larger and nicer one.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Kenny is an oversexed creep towards women, but Steve himself says he's harmless and a good friend and the movie plays his behavior for laughs.
  • Punched Across the Room: When a guy tries defending Susan while Steve is trying to confront her, Steve punches him so hard that he slides several meters across the floor and into an elevator.
  • Smooch of Victory: Steve kisses beauty contest winners as a show for the newspapers after winning a race on two separate occasions.
