Fan Girl is a 2020 Philippine movie directed by Antoinette Jadaone.

The movie revolves around Jane (Charlie Dizon), the titular fangirl obsessed with celebrity Paulo Avelino, who plays a fictional version of himself. After a promotional event for Avelino's newest romantic comedy, Jane is able to climb into the back of Avelino's truck. She soon gets found out after she enters his house, but Avelino lets her stay for the night. Before Jane gets home, she grows closer to Avelino and learns more about him than she bargained for.

Fan Girl contains examples of:

  • Ambiguous Ending: While Jane calls the police on her stepfather in the end, it's unknown whether her stepfather finds out, if Jane gets justice, etc.
  • Broken Pedestal: Jane has a crush on Paulo Avelino from the start. While Jane is still enamored with Paulo when she meets him in person, by the end of the movie she wants nothing to do with him. Not only is he inconsiderate, but he also sexually assaults her and puts her life as well as his son's life at risk near the end of the movie.
  • Celeb Crush: Jane has a strong crush on the actor Paulo Avelino that she decides to secretly sneak into his truck while he leaves the mall, which drives the main plot. It gets Deconstructed later on as Jane slowly sees who Paulo really is in the second half.
  • Foul First Drink: Jane is this when Avelino eventually relents to giving her one of his beers.
  • I'll Be in My Bunk: Jane masturbates after she sees Avelino having sex with an unnamed woman.
  • Junkie Parent: Avelino. It turns out he has a son with someone who is already married. From his consistent drug usage and his celebrity lifestyle, he is usually absent in his kid's life. When he endangers Jane and his son, it is clear that he is high on drugs.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: The trailer makes it seem like a lighthearted rom-com about an obsessive fan girl named Jane and her idol Paulo (who is a male actor) bonding and falling in love with each other after Paulo catches Jane sneaking into his truck and lets her stay at his place for a while. The actual movie, however, is anything but a rom-com. It's a dark drama about how Jane finds out the hard way that her idol Paulo isn't who she imagined during her times with him.
  • Only One Name: Jane's last name is never given.
  • Parental Neglect: Jane's home life is not the best. Her mother only pays attention to her when her husband leaves her for days, and when he comes back, she lets her husband boss Jane around like she's a maid as well as verbally abuse her. Given Jane's circumstances, it's no wonder Jane clings to Avelino like she does.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Jane literally got in the back of Avelino's truck. If that's not stalkerish behavior...
