Exposé, also known as The House on Straw Hill, is a 1976 British erotic thriller directed by James Kenelm Clarke and starring Udo Kier, Linda Hayden, and Fiona Richmond.
Paul Martin (Kier) is a novelist who rents out a secluded cottage in the British countryside in order to complete his new book, a pretentious sex romp. Plagued by recurring paranoid nightmares, he has split with his girlfriend Suzanne (Richmond) and is having problems writing his book. Paul employs a secretary, Linda Hindstatt (Hayden), to type the manuscript for him. Meanwhile, Paul keeps having nightmares, and pretty soon everything descends into pure insanity.
Notable mainly for being not only the only British entry on the DPP's list of Video Nastiesnote , but also the only British entry to be successfully prosecuted, due to its graphic scenes of sex and violence. Later remade in 2010 as Stalker.
This film includes examples of the following tropes:
- Girl on Girl Is Hot: As his novel approaches completion, Paul asks Suzanne to come back to him, only for Linda to seduce her, and the two women have sex.
- Rape and Revenge: Shortly after settling into Paul's house, Linda is raped by a pack of local yobs, but soon gets her revenge and kills them with a shotgun.
- Slashed Throat: Paul's housekeeper Mrs. Aston is murdered by having her throat slashed with a knife by Linda.
- These Gloves Are Made for Killin': Linda puts on a pair of latex gloves in front of Paul while declaring that she's going to kill him.
- Vehicular Sabotage: Paul is killed when he crashes his car into a nearby river, the brakes having been tampered with.
- Writer's Block: Paul is struck with a case of this, and hires Linda to help him cope.
