Embrace of the Vampire is a 2013 film remake of the 1995 film Embrace of the Vampire. It stars Sharon Hinnendael, Kaniehtiio Horn, C.C. Sheffield, Chelsey Reist, and Victor Webster.

The virginal and repressed Charlotte Hawthorn joins the university from an all-girl Catholic school on a fencing scholarship. She shares the room with Nicole and says that her mother died and she is alone. Charlotte suffers from a rare blood disorder and is forced to use medicine. She gets a job working as waitress in a coffee shop managed by Chris. Soon she meets the fencing coach, who is also responsible for the literature classes, Professor Cole, and her teammate Eliza becomes jealous with his treatment toward Charlotte. Charlotte starts to have daydreams and hallucinations and the mystic Daciana, who own the occult store next door to the coffee shop, explains her fate in the world as a Vampire Hunter, but Charlotte does not believe in her until her friends die.

Embrace of the Tropes:

  • Bathroom Stall of Overheard Insults: More a case of 'bathroom of overheard insults', but Charlotte is in the bathroom of her dorm room when she hears resident bitch Eliza making bitchy comments about her to her roommate Nicole, despite Eliza never having met Charlotte.
  • Blood Bath: Charlotte has a waking dream where she steps into the shower and it starts spraying blood over her. She stands there as it flows over her, resulting in a Sexy Soaked Shirt.
  • Coming and Going: Charlotte and Sarah start getting hot and heavy in the dorm corridor while the groundskeeper is being brutally murdered outside. The film keeps cutting back and forth between the two events.
  • Dhampyr: Charlotte is descended from the human child born of a woman who had been turned into a vampire. This gave the female descendants of this line great powers as Vampire Hunters.
  • Dying Candle: The wind of the vampire's passage snuffs the candle on Daciana's table giving her a few seconds warning before the vampire snaps her neck.
  • Erotic Dream: On arriving at university, and finding herself in the presence of a vampire, Charlotte starts experiencing intense erotic dreams, which sometimes turn into nightmares.
  • Fan Disservice: Nicole is shown going topless and making out with Cole. This turns into horror when he bites into her neck, with blood gushing from the wound as she begins screaming.
  • Fanservice Extra: Several of the minor female characters are shown in their underwear and topless. They're all pretty young women.
  • Game Face: When a vampire is about to bite someone, they don't just show fangs but also their skin goes pale showing black Tainted Veins and their eyes become yellow, glowing with slits like a cat's.
  • Hallucinations: Charlotte begins having these in college, such as seeing blood come down from the shower all over... then coming to outside.
  • Hot for Teacher: Charlotte has an Erotic Dream about her literature professor and fencing coach Professor Cole. Many other female students also show attraction for him, as he's a very handsome man.
  • Imminent Danger Clue: The wind of the vampire's passage snuffs the candle on Daciana's table giving her a few seconds warning before the vampire snaps her neck.
  • Interrupted Intimacy:
    • Nicole is topless, getting intimate with a guy in their room when her roommate Charlotte unexpectedly comes back and surprises them.
    • Charlotte is making out with Chris in the forest. She asks him to have sex, pulling her top down and then a vampire rushes out, carrying Chris away to be slaughtered offscreen.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: Drunk after having been force fed vodka at the fencing club hazing, Charlotte and Sarah share a passionate kiss in the dorm corridor. It possibly goes further than this, although this just might have been an Erotic Dream/nightmare of Charlotte's.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Charlotte starts to have sex with Chris in the woods when a vampire drags him away. Eliza was also moving toward this, when her lover turned out to be said vampire, feeding on her lethally instead.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Nicole is shown topless multiple times in the show. Charlotte is too, once along with Sarah who then has sex with her (at least assuming this wasn't just an Erotic Dream). They're all quite attractive.
  • Neck Snap: The vampire kills Daciana by swinging down from the ceiling, grabbing her head and twisting it sharply.
  • One-Gender School: Charlotte attended an all-girl Catholic School prior to winning the fencing scholarship to university, meaning that university is the first time she has been in a coed environment.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: The film's vampire shows the usual lethal vulnerability to the sun. Vampires lack other common weaknesses however, with a superhuman speed and strength. Drinking blood from a virgin of the bloodline which created them will also restore a vampire's original human form.
  • Sexy Soaked Shirt: In one of her waking dreams, Charlotte steps into the shower, only for the water to turn to blood as it sprays over her. This causes her white tank top to become plastered to her body.
  • Shrinking Violet: Charlotte is a shy, virginal young woman starting out who's a Fish out of Water in the co-ed environment of the college she's attending, having been in all-girl Catholic schools before, facing the uninhibited students who have a lot of casual sex and drink often.
  • Shower Scene: In one of her waking dreams, Charlotte steps into the shower, only for the water to turn to blood as it sprays over her. This causes her white tank top to become plastered to her body.
  • Sleepwalking: Charlotte starts sleepwalking when she begins being plagued by nightmares, and finds herself waking up in strange places, such as the courtyard garden in the middle of her dorm building.
  • Strip Poker: Kelly, the hard-edged captain of the fencing team, makes her teammates all play a drinking game where they must guess fencing trivia, with losers having to strip and drink. The majority end up at least in their bras and panties, if not topless, as a hazing ritual.
  • Tainted Veins: When the vampire transforms from his human form to vampiric, the veins across his neck become prominent and turn black. (Possibly it extends across his whole body, but his face and neck are all that are visible.)
  • Twofer Token Minority: Kelly, the fencing team's captain (a supporting character), is of East Asian ancestry (played by a Chinese-Canadian).
  • Vampire Bites Suck: Vampire bites are ugly: tearing out a chunk of flesh and spilling liters of blood over the victim. No one is shown to survive one.
  • Vampire Hunter: Charlotte is the latest in a line of vampire hunters, descended from a human born of a vampire. However, her mother died before she could pass on the secret to Charlotte.
  • Virgin Power: A vampire who drinks the blood of a virgin from the bloodline that created him will be restored to their original human form. The virgin, however, will be damned to Hell for eternity.
  • Weakened by the Light: Having stabbed the vampire through the heart with with a sharpened cross, Charlotte finishes him off by ripping down the curtain and exposing him to the direct sunlight, causing him to burst into flames.
