A 2004 American comedy directed by Michael Lembeck that has a mob mix-up sending two friends (Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette) to LA and scoring a perfect job, posing as drag queens at a dinner theatre circuit.

The movie also stars David Duchovny, Stephen Spinella, Alec Mapa, Ian Gomez, Robert John Burke, and Boris McGiver.

It was released on April 16, 2004.

Tropes for the film:

  • Drag Queen: The titular character's friends. They, the eponymous girls themselves, are more like Sweet Polly Olivers...kinda.
  • Gay Bar Reveal: Carla and Connie discover they're in a gay bar only after seeing two men they wanted to hit on kiss.
  • "Gender-Normative Parent" Plot: Played straight, except it's his brother trying to come to grips with it.
  • Name and Name: Carla and Connie.
  • Recursive Crossdressing: The main concept. The two ladies, a performing duo, witness a murder and go into hiding by pretending to be drag queens.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: The two women witness a murder, so they go into hiding by disguising themselves as Drag Queens (a spoof of Some Like It Hot where two jazz musicians who witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre go into hiding by joining an all-women's jazz band). In other words, they dressed up as men who dress up as women.
