- Comments: A post S2 AU in which Damon offered himself to Klaus in exchange for his brother's freedom, and the characterization is so well done that the story feels like a natural, alternate conclusion to the S2 arc. The the interactions with both Klaus and Rebekah are spot-on, and the Damon's POV makes the story simply heartbreaking.

- Synopsis: When you wake up in a fictional world a thousand years in the past, only to find immortality and a hunger for blood forced upon you, what do you do? Take over the world of course.
- Comments: The story features a manipulative and amazingly vicious self insert being born as a brother to the Originals, particularly as a second hybrid. In the end he becomes a boogieman even to the monsters and brutalizes his way through the centuries while manipulating every single person he encounters. Most of the entertainment in this fic comes from watching other characters suffer terribly when confronted with an Original who's got the brains, patience, and knowledge to match the family brawn and a malicious personality that makes Klaus look saintly.
- Warnings: Explicit content, graphic violence, and torture await. Not for the faint of heart as most characters end up in ruins after encountering Vali.
Damon/Elena
Off by a Single Degree by Taaroko

- Synopsis: AU. On the night that Elena meets Damon, her cell phone dies before she has a chance to call home for a ride. Their conversation is never interrupted by her parents' arrival, Elena and her parents are never in a car that goes off Wickery Bridge, and Stefan never has to save Elena from drowning.

- Comments: an amazingly written pre-canon AU, in which Elena's parents never die and she never forgets meeting Damon. The characterization is a thing of beauty - this Damon is still very much in love with Katherine but is still fascinated by Elena, who is a perfectly believable 'lighter' version of the Elena from S1 canon. As for the rest, Grayson Gilbert is simply awesome, there's not much Stefan-bashing (as opposite to pretty much half of the Elena/Damon fics around) and Sheila Bennett is amazing as always.
