Proof that the remaining 10% is worth being sundered for.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Final Fantasy XIV, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. No-name recommendations will be zapped. Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

demios
  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Comments: An eloquent writer who pays close attention to characterization and doesn't hesitate to experiment with form. Notable for stories tying to the Dark Knight questline but this is by no means exclusive.

rabbitprint

  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Comments: Exquisite worldbuilding, intricate characterization, and stylistically gorgeous work. Rabbitprint has done stories with the Ascians, the Crystal Exarch, Fray, many Stormblood cast members, and more. Every character he writes is done incredibly well and I can't recommend him highly enough.

     General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Et Tibi Patri by pudgy puk

  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A oneshot offering a close look at Aymeric's backstory, from childhood to Knight Commander and all the ways he is not his father.
  • Comments: Gorgeously written, detailed, and brilliantly developed. Easily some of the best characterization for Aymeric I've seen yet while keeping Ishgard and its culture tangible throughout.

Eyes Ever Heavensward by RoseDragonWitch

  • Recommended by: kaleidoscope89
  • Pairing(s): Alphinaud/Female!Warrior of Light
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Five years ago, Louisoix Leveilleur sacrificed his life for the realm of Eoreza and now his grandchildren seek to continue his legacy. Through betrayal, Alphinaud Leveilleur is forced to flee to the snowy mountains of Ishgard with the Warrior of Light. Meanwhile his guilt over what happened continues to eat away at him…
  • Comments: A POV retelling of the Heavensward storyline through Alphinaud Leveilleur. Provides some insights to Alphinaud thoughts during the events of the storyline such as when he finally finds the resolve to continue his grandfathers legacy after the betrayal of the events of Ul'dah. This includes on how he grows closer to the Warrior of Light of the story and develops the canon friendship, and then maybe more.

Cyx by fluoxetine

  • Recommended by: kaleidoscope89
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Cyx is the story of an Au Ra hailing from the Azim Steppes finds herself violently thrown from her homeland into a world entirely unlike her own. Here, in the land of Eorzea, she will forge her own path and find her true calling: that of a warrior, ready to face foes both old and new.
  • Comments: The story focuses on a young Au'ra girl having fled the Azim Steepe with their family and eventually ends up in Limsa Lominsa. Instead of a single Warrior of Light, the story has an ensemble cast that goes through the events of the storyline.

The Daily Inconveniences of an Au RaKei_Cordelle

  • Recommended by: Azemsboi
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Life is hard when you're a big lizard living in a non-lizard world. From their frustrating dining practices to their hard-mattressed beds and their terms of address, Eorzeans seemed determined to make even the smallest of tasks inaccessible for an Au Ra.
  • Comments: A look into the differences in both physical features and cultures that a Xaela Warrior of Light (specifically Dotharl) would encounter in the course of his adventures across Eorzea. Well written with some insightful looks as to how someone with scales and horns would actually fit into the more human oriented society of Eorzea, as well as some comedy and good characterization.

     Shipping Fics
Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

They're all strangers and you've got no mother tongue by h3rring

  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): WoL/Emet-Selch
  • Synopsis: In the wake of their battle, the Warrior of Light returns to Amaurot. Emet-Selch left something behind, waiting for them.
  • Comments: On point characterization and dialogue, vivid descriptions, carries a sense of off-balance mourning. Unsure if it's complete or in progress but very well-done either way.

Mother by maccom

  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): WoL/Emet-Selch
  • Synopsis: Following along with the events in 5.0, Emet-Selch finds himself torn between memories from his past and doubt for his future. Will he, or won't he?
  • Comments: Stunningly written, sexy, tense, and psychologically complex. Has several sequel fics as well.

Haste Makes Waste by silly_bone

  • Recommended by somebody else
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing(s): Elidibus/Lahabrea
  • Synopsis: After eons, Lahabrea has become impatient. In a bid to accelerate their progress, the Speaker selects Emet-Selch to provoke in order to achieve this and inadvertently gains additional attention in the form of one Emissary.
  • Comments: Written before 5.3 so canon characterization has shifted since, nonetheless an intimate look at both Ascians and the toll of the Ardor. Poignant and erotic, overall human in the best of ways.

Black Chamomile by Chiefs

  • Recommended by: Neverwhere
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Pairing(s): Warrior of Light/Y'shtola
  • Synopsis: Y’shtola and the Warrior of Light have shared a bond ever since their first meeting and, as they face the myriad trials before them, they realize their friendship is slowly blossoming into love.
  • Comments: This fic spans the beginning of ARR to the end of Shadowbringers and does a phenomenal job of subtly transforming the WoL and Y'shtola's friendship into romance. Of note, the story is written so that the WoL can be of any race and gender.

     Crossover Fics
In Loving Memory of the Sun by beanie_x
  • Recommended by AyaSai
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover: Baldur's Gate III
  • Synopsis: A traveller is sent on a mission from their home of Amaurot to Baldur's Gate. All is going well until they get abducted by Mind flayers.
  • Comments: An interesting take on a crossover story set long before the Final Days featuring a soon-to-be Azem of the Convocation as the current version of Tav (as a Drow) in Faerûn during the events of Baldur's Gate III. Also serve as a slowburn shipping fic between the Ancient Traveller and a certain Pale Elf.
