Weirdward
is a completed Danny Phantom and Harry Potter fanfic where Sirius and Lupin travel to Amity and recruit Phantom for the Order.
Weirdward: bordering upon the supernatural
When Sirius and Remus are asked to travel all the way to America to recruit a powerful new ally for the Order, they expect to be gone for months, tracking this potential ally and satisfying his demands. When he asks them instead, his only demand, to teach three 15 year old teenagers magic, well. It wasn't like they were there on orders of the headmaster of Hogwarts, were they?
Tropes:
- Arbitrary Skepticism: A lot of wizards are skeptical of Amity's ghosts, largely because they're so powerful and solid, and divergent from what they think ghosts are supposed to be like. Even the wizards that don't think that it's a hoax are skeptical that they're not some other kind of supernatural being that Muggles/No-Maj's have mistaken for ghosts.
- Canis Major: Danny's Patronus looks like Cujo, and can change forms just like he can.
- For Want Of A Nail: Danny's Occlumency training allows Harry to fight off Voldemort's possession at the Ministry, and Danny rescued Sirius shortly before that.
- Homeschooled Kids: Sam and Tucker, and Danny after the accident, apparently slipped through the cracks of whatever system allows Macusa to detect young witches and wizards, possibly due to the high presence of ecto-energy around Amity Park, so Sam's grandmother Ida just taught them herself.
- Mage Born of Muggles: Sam's father was a Squib, and her mother a No-Maj. Tucker's parents are both No-Maj's. Danny was a No-Maj before his accident, like his parents and sister.
- Muggle Born of Mages: Sam's father was a Squib, who decided to lean into being as "normal" as much as possible, only for his daughter to be born a witch.
- Psychic Block Defense: Legilimency and overshadowing are similar enough that training to resist the latter is the same thing as Occlumency. Danny uses this to help Harry learn Occlumency after his lessons with Snape don't go very well, having already helped his friends learn to do that to protect against his enemies, as well as having learned himself after his encounter with Freakshow.
- Sizeshifter: Danny's Patronus takes on the form of Cujo, size-changing and all.
- Super-Empowering: In addition to his ghost powers, Danny, despite being a No-Maj before the accident, became a wizard afterwards.
