Go To

Total Pokemon Alphabet/Alphabetical is a currently running SYOC Total Drama and Pokémon crossover fanfiction, created and written by xebla, and co-written by Fuzzboy.

This story contains examples of:

  • The Ace: Drifblim is this when referring to the competition itself, acting as a major challenge beast.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Hydreigon is implied to have feelings towards Drifblim, who's among the most violent and serious contestants on the island.
  • All or Nothing: The show runs on this principle, as there is no mention of runner ups receiving any compensation.
  • Alpha Bitch:
    • Octillery for the Awesome Azelf; She's The Slacker of the team, and is very rude to every member of it, including Araquanid, who's the only player who actually tries to be her friend.
    • Granbull for the Mysterious Mesprit; She's a psycho who constantly harasses and bullies everyone on the team while making herself the "undisputed" leader of the team.
    • Purugly for the Unique Uxie; She's among the rudest players on it, who goes out of her way to bother the male members for possible sex, all while treating everyone on the team like garbage and like she's smarter than them.
  • Amusing Injuries:
    • Drifblim accidentally knocking out Raichu in episode 1 of Alphabetical. He makes it up to the rat by taking care of him for the rest of the episode. By the end they're implied to be on good terms.
    • Jellicent is humorously thrown out of the Unique Uxie base through a dirty trick.
  • Arch-Enemy: Granbull and Wormadam, due to Wormadam being cop who's very pro-authority, and thus always tries to stop the sadistic Granbull from hurting others.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Ninjask is implied to be of Japanese descent, and is obsessed with trying to become an amazing ninja.
  • Attention Whore: In a literal sense. She wants to be noticed by the males so she can seduce and have sex with them, but her own unattractive appearance and personality wards off basically everyone.
  • Ax-Crazy: Granbull is so aggressive and hostile that she's more than willing to actually seriously maim contestants, and seems to actually enjoy it.
  • Badass Bookworm: Chandelure spends a majority of his time reading and writing books. Doesn't stop him from being among the smartest and most savvy players, easily creating strategies with minimal effort.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Not recognizing Bastiodon or knowing any of the movies he's starred in pisses him off to no end.
    • Basically everything is this for Granbull.
    • Not using proper grammar is a major one for Leavanny.
    • Breaking the law or going against the rules of the game is naturally this for the pro-authority Wormadam.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Granbull, Jellicent, Leavanny, Purugly, and Sableye all have their own strategies, and are set on taking control of the game by force.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • A friendship version in the case of Infernape and Yanmega, who both share previous combat experience in the military.
    • Araquanid and Octillery, who're the youngest contestants on the show at eighteen, and bond over similar interests in drugs.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Furret is traumatized mentally by Granbull badly enough that she starts jumping at every random noise.
    • Episode 2 seems focused on destroying Vanilluxe's moral grounds, and he's also very badly beaten by Granbull.
  • Break the Haughty: Granbull spends the entirety of episode 1 getting her ass handed to her by just about every strong contestant.
  • The Bully: Granbull goes out of her way to abuse her teammates mentally and physically just for her own amusement.
  • Closet Geek: While it's mostly overshadowed by his awkward personality, Araquanid is a huge fan of sci-fi movies, and is in love with the Star Wars franchise. He's also implied to be a trekkie.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Quagsire, an oaf who often does very random or strange things for very little reason other than it makes him happy and makes other laugh.
  • Control Freak:
    • Turtonator shows shades of this despite her panicked personality.
    • Yanmega's behavior as leader subtly implies he's this.
  • Continuity Reboot: Alphabetical acts as this for the series after Fuzzboy came on as the co-writer.
  • Curb Stomp Battle:
    • Basically every fight against Drifblim ends with him kicking your ass with minimal effort.
    • Zebstrika was able to take Granbull down relatively quickly.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Quagsire may be a moron, but he won the first challenge of the show and became a team captain, and easily made the perfect camouflage for his team's base next episode.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Implied to be the main reason Granbull is such an awful person.
    • Drifblim was only raised by his father due to his mother dying upon his birth. It's implied that he was very harshly and strictly raised.
  • Darker and Edgier: Played with in the reboot; While most of the more negative characters are nowhere to be seen now, and a lot of the more negative characters from before have been updated and turned into better people, it still introduced Drifblim and Granbull as contestants, and it still feels like a grim story overall.
  • The Ditz: Justified due to her having three minds and all, but Hydreigon isn't very bright and can't concentrate on anything very well either. Just attempting to try and form coherent sentences is a struggle for her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Chandelure primarily, but everyone has their moments.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Araquanid is revealed to be this in episode two, having been rejected by every girl he's ever asked out, no matter how kind he treats them. It's actually caused him to fall into somewhat of an early depression.
  • The Dreaded: Everyone on the island is absolutely terrified of Drifblim.
  • Drunk with Power: As early as episode two, Yanmega has become a Control Freak for his team, and seems to grow very irrational when that power is taken away from him, to a point of not being nearly as useful as a teammate.
  • Dumb Is Good: Hydreigon in the Alphabetical reboot. She's among the less intelligent contestants due to her mental difficulties, and she overall seems to have trouble knowing what's going on.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Alphabet is consider an okay story that suffers from unlikable characters and a lot of grammar and spelling errors. Alphabetical is considered much better written as a story.
  • Easily Forgiven: While inverted for the most part, Granbull is forgiven quite quickly by Vanilluxe, despite the fact that she had attempted to kill him not even an hour earlier.
  • Enemy Mine: The entirety of the Mysterious Mesprit decide to team up in order to eliminate Granbull, since they all share a mutual dislike of her.
  • Entitled Bitch: Granbull treats everyone like trash while also threatening them with serious damage if they go against her, but still expects to be seen as a great leader by her teammates, despite also basically acting as a dictator on the team.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Nobody on the island likes Granbull or encourages her sadistic personality and actions, including Sableye, who's trying to uncover everyone's secrets.
    • Drifblim is among the most violent and feared contestants, but he also has a strong morality complex, enough so that upon accidentally knocking Raichu out in episode 1, he takes care of him for the rest of the episode, putting his focus on the rat instead of the challenge. Later in the episode, he also brings back an exhausted Hydreigon back to camp.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: In both the original and the reboot, none of the cast knew each other before the show, and all meet in episode one.
    • Inverted in the case of Turtonator and Vanilluxe; They're actually married, and only pretend to not know each other before the show.
  • Fake Boss: Granbull is quickly set up as the potential main antagonist of the story due to her violent personality, but is actually disposed of by the end of episode 2, becoming the first contestant eliminated.
  • Fat Bitch: Purugly is uncomfortably overweight, and is also among the most villainous contestants.
  • For the Evulz: Granbull relentlessly tortures her teammates and other contestants for no reason other than that she enjoys it.
  • Freudian Excuse: Granbull's violent personality was caused by her terrible home life.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Quagsire gets along with all of the wild Pokemon on the island and deeply cares for them, and also naturally thinks the highest of every person he meets.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: In episode two, Granbull is beaten to near death by Drifblim, basically dooming her at the elimination that night.
  • Gamer Chick: Word of God has confirmed Hydreigon as one, since playing a game is one of the few things all of heads are able to focus on, thus making playing them a rare experience of peace inside her otherwise usually busy mind.
  • Geek Physiques: Araquanid is actually rather skinny and frail looking for his species, and basically looks easy enough to break with minimal effort.
  • Genki Girl: Mesprit, who's the only host who treats all the contestants with respect while acting consistently kind and energetic.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: Both versions of the story run off of this. Only a select few contestants actually seem to be completely excluded from this, including resident Nice Guy Vanilluxe, Friend to All Living Things Quagsire, and The Sociopath Granbull. Otherwise, everyone else usually borders the line of being both good and evil. Nobody's perfect really.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Granbull is set off by the simplest of actions, and always responds violently.
  • Happily Married: Turtonator and Vanilluxe are revealed to be a married couple who have kids in the first episode, and are just pretending to not know each other in order to do well in the competition.
  • Hidden Depths: Quagsire seems to have a natural connection with the wild Pokemon living on the island.
  • Hoist By Her Own Petard: Granbull relentlessly abused and tortured those weaker than her, only to get seriously beaten down by Drifblim, the only contestant stronger than her physically, causing her downfall no matter the circumstance at the end of the episode.
  • Humiliation Conga: Upon her arrival on the show, Granbull savagely rips open a Wailord's back. After that though, she's quickly and easily taken care of by Drifblim and Wormadam, easily defeated and held down by Zebstrika after attacking Wormadam, is quickly targeted by her team to a point of where they throw the challenge to eliminate her, thoroughly loses the trust and respect of the only person who liked her, gets the crap beaten out of her to a point of an allowed medevac by Drifblim, and then receives every vote at the next elimination, thus making her the first contestant eliminated from the game. And all of that was just in two episodes.
  • In Harmony with Nature: Quagsire loves everything about the outdoors, from the wild Pokemon that live out there to it's natural beauty.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Zebstrika means well with everything he says, but he lacks a filter, and has a tendency to accidentally say demeaning or rude things to those around him.
  • Innocent Bigot: Zebstrika is described as such, since while he says offensive things, he never means to and is actually a Nice Guy.
  • Insufferable Genius: Leavanny, who will begin to chew people out just for not using proper grammar.
  • It's All About Me: Bastiodon has this outlook on life, basically treating it as if he's the main character of the universe as a whole due to starring in so many movies, even though most of the cast don't even know of him or his career.
  • Jack of All Stats: Zebstrika, who's a high school PE teacher, and thus very athletic, has an above average intelligence overall but seems to have difficulty showing it at times, and is very social. His biggest issue is his own lack of a censor.
  • Jerkass:
    • Bastiodon is an arrogant jerk to everyone around him, and his stubborn enough to cause some team difficulties.
    • Granbull is an absolute psychopath who spends her time harassing her teammates and physically bullying them for little reason.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Drifblim is one of the most violent contestants who refuses to work with others unless they prove their worth, but he also has a strong morality complex, believes in defending those who are unable to defend themselves, and is always willing to take responsibility for his actions. He also has formed friendships with both Hydreigon and Raichu due to taking care of the two during episode 1.
    • Leavanny may be a very strict and overall rude person, but she does have good intentions when she taught her students, and does seem to be capable of lightening up around those who show her actual respect back, even being capable of being friendly around them.
    • Octillery's a very immature and rude teenager who slacks off at every opportunity, but as shown through her interactions with Araquanid, she is capable of being friendly towards those who share similar interests or are at least around her age.
  • Lighter and Softer: Played with in the reboot; While the series remains much the same and has introduced Drifblim and Granbull, it also noticeably lacks a large amount of the overall negative character traits formerly present in the cast, and a large majority feels less corrupted and more likeable overall.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Drifblim and Quagsire spend most of their time away from most of the cast, and are also seen as the overall oddest contestants in the competition.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: One of Araquanid's goals on the show is to find a girlfriend, after every previous attempt of his on the show failed. He's deducted that since all the girls back home were immature and spoiled party animals, that maybe he'll have an easier time on a show full of older women who have matured as people.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Inverted; Purugly tries to be this but often fails. Used to be this when she was unevolved though.
  • Never Accepted in His Hometown: Araquanid apparently has been rejected by every girl in his college, and if his awkwardness is anything to go by, he doesn't have many friends or close family members either.
  • Nice Guy:
    • Araquanid's a sweet guy who just suffers from being extremely socially awkward.
    • Furret respects everyone and treats them all well, and is the only one to not see Quagsire as an idiot, instead just thinking he's friendly and fun to be around.
    • Quagsire's a goofball who's just on the show to spread happiness and have a good time, even if he lacks the intellect to easily make friends.
    • Ursaring's a kind old soul who has learned to only care about those around him after a rather terrible past series of events.
    • Vanilluxe's the nicest contestant on the entire show, being completely selfless and thinking only the best of everyone around him.
    • Zebstrika's a cool guy and tries to be as friendly to others as possible...He just sucks at keeping his mouth shut at times.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Jellicent invokes this as her main strategy, intentionally freaking people out in order to make it further in the game.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Near the end of the second episode of Alphabetical, Drifblim beats Granbull badly enough that the hosts admit that they would have medevaced her from the game if they could.
  • No Indoor Voice: Both Quagsire and Zebstrika are described as being the loudest contestants, and even when they try not to be, they often still come across as a little too loud for anyone's liking. Quagsire seems to be capable of quieting down though, unlike Zebstrika.
  • Odd Friendship: Plenty of them.
    • Drifblim's The Stoic who has a violent streak and terrifies everyone around the camp, but oddly enough, actually gets along very well with Hydreigon and Raichu, with the former being The Ditz who needs helping learning how to concentrate, while the latter's a Former Child Star who has fallen into depression.
    • Leavanny's a realist who is usually mad at the fact that she's on the show against her will and might lose her job, but actually forms a close bond with Xatu, a psychic who is only on the show to fulfill her destiny.
  • One-Steve Limit: Inverted; There are two Zoroark on the show, both of which host the aftermath.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Araquanid for the Amazing Azelf, being by far the most normal guy of the team overall, and is actually pretty friendly to boot.
    • Ursaring for the Mysterious Mesprit, spending his time mostly just chilling out and writing songs, while being pretty kind, but also doesn't involve himself too much in the game.
    • Chandelure for the Unique Uxie, acting as the smartest contestant on his team, but also seems to be the one with the most stable grip on reality.
  • The Pollyanna: Vanilluxe, who just wants everyone in the game to be good friends and enjoy themselves.
  • Precocious Crush: Araquanid has a thing for older women in their 20s to around early 40s, while he's still just a teenager. He seems to realize how weird this is, but none the less prefers the older types to those his age, since he thinks that an adult breaking his heart wouldn't hurt as much.
  • Reality Show: The stories are set in an In-Universe reality competition for money.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Vanilluxe lets out a tame version of this against Granbull upon realizing just how terrible of a person she truly is.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni:
    • Quagsire's the red to Chandelure's blue.
    • Wormadam's the red to Zebstrika's blue.
    • Octillery's the red to Araquanid's blue.
    • Drifblim's the red to Hydreigon's blue.
    • Granbull's the red to Vanilluxe's blue.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Hydreigon is implied to have a crush on Drifblim.
    • Araquanid and Octillery have interactions that seem to be indirectly spliced with this. Araquanid actually has a crush on Hydreigon due to thinking she's so adorable and innocent, and due to him having a thing for older women.
  • Skipping School: Octillery is implied to have skipped school multiple times before the competition.
  • The Slacker: Octillery doesn't put much of any kind of effort in challenges, or much of anything really.
  • The Smart Guy:
    • Araquanid, Leavanny, and Xatu for the Amazing Azelf. Araquanid is a tech geek who gets straight A's in school, Leavanny's a teacher who seems to know plenty about most subjects, and Xatu's a spiritual but very intelligent psychic.
    • Furret for the Mysterious Mesprit. She's a fanfiction writer who plans to write a novel, and while she may be a nervous wreck most of the time, she's actually very intelligent for her age and acts as the main source of brains among her team.
    • Chandelure and Turtonator for the Unique Uxie. Chandelure's a brilliant writer and a skilled strategist, while Turtonator's the Only Sane Man of her team while also acting as a natural team leader due to her impressive mind.
  • Smug Snake: Granbull is almost suicidally confident in her ability to easily defeat anyone around her.
  • Spoiled Brat: Hinted at with Octillery, since it's hinted that her parents allow her to get away with anything she wants.
  • The Stoic: Drifblim barely shows any emotions other than indifference and silent anger.
  • The Strategist:
    • Chandelure is a brilliant writer who knows how to bend things in his favor.
    • Yanmega quickly starts the first alliance of the game.
    • Jellicent is purposefully making herself act weird in order to get further in the competition.
  • Throwing the Fight: The Mysterious Mesprit throw the second challenge in order to eliminate Granbull.
  • Token Good Teammate: Vanilluxe for the Mysterious Mesprit, who's the only player who didn't want to throw the challenge to eliminate Granbull, believing she's actually a sweet girl at heart who's just adjusting. He doesn't even vote her off at that episode's elimination, despite her savagely beating him earlier.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While not a hero by any definition, everyone was horrified upon learning that Drifblim beat Granbull into a bad enough state that she would actually be medevaced if the hosts were allowed to have them.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Drifblim is more than willing to hurt anyone who tries to injure those he considers too weak to defend themselves.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Meowstic is a stronger believer that this is a certainty, and is training himself everyday to prepare for one, even bringing a large assortment of weapons to the island with him just in case it broke out while he competed.
