"This is making a move" (sic) is a Scream 4 fanfic about Kirby Reed's life after the events of the film.

Warning: unmarked spoilers for Scream 4.

Tropes that appear in this fanfic:

  • Abusive Parents: Mr. Walker sexually abused his son Kris and later did the same to Charlie.
  • Adoption Is Not an Option: Double-subverted. Kirby tries to put her child up for adoption, but one of the nurses at the hospital tells reporters that Charlie is the father of Kirby's child, causing the couple to back out.
  • Ascended Fridge Horror: There's a reason why Charlie never wears short-sleeve shirts. It's to cover up the wounds on his arms from suicide attempts.
  • Auto Erotica: Charlie and Jill had sex in the former's car after killing Marnie and Jenny.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The main reason why Charlie joined Jill as her accomplice was because she showed him affection and seemed to love him.
  • Big Bad: Jill Roberts. Her quest for fame ropes Charlie in and greatly impacts Kirby's life for years to come.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Jill was already one of these, but became a much larger one when the revelations about Charlie came to light. She knew of the abuse Charlie suffered and took advantage of that to make him into her lackey to use and dispose of once she no longer had use for him.
  • Break the Cutie: Kirby has a hard time coping with the fact that most of her friends are dead, two of them were the killers, and one is the father of her child.
  • Broken Pedestal: Jill and Charlie to the Woodsboro High School student body after the news breaks.
  • Dead Person Conversation: In Chapter 14, Kirby returns to Woodsboro to visit Charlie and Jill's graves.
Kirby: Hi Charlie, I'm having a boy, Charlie. I bet you never expected that, huh... I'm sorry Charlie, I didn't know how sick you were. There's no excuse for what you did... but I hope God has mercy on your soul. I just wish you would have told somebody... I'm sorry for what happened to you, and I hope wherever you are you can find the peace you couldn't in life. I guess what I'm just trying to say is... I'm going to make sure our son gets the life you never had. I promise... if there is any good in you... it's in him. I promise. I loved you Charlie, but like you said it's too late. I'm sorry... and I forgive you.
  • Distant Finale: The story ends with Jensen graduating college and later visiting Charlie's grave.
  • Driven to Suicide:
    • The Walker's biological son Kris drowned himself at 13 because of Mr. Walker did to him.
    • Charlie attempted suicide several times via slitting his wrists. This explains why he never wears shortsleeved shirts during the film.
  • Final Girl: Kirby is a more clear-cut one than in Scream 4 because she survived.
  • Foreshadowing: Chapter 11 has Charlie's dying thoughts where he thinks about marks on his arms.
  • Freudian Excuse: Charlie's adoptive father sexually abused him, leaving him easy prey for Jill.
  • The Ghost: Mr. Loomis and Stu Macher's parents still live in Woodsboro but never appear in person.
  • Give Geeks a Chance:
    • Sidney regrets not giving Randy a chance before his murder.
    • Kirby wonders whether or not she could have changed Charlie by going out with him before he started killing.
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Kirby originally wanted to abort her child with Charlie, but when she saw the fetus on the ultrasound monitor, she couldn't bring herself to go through with it.
  • Hate Sink: Mr. Walker is the adoptive father of Charlie Walker. Mr. Walker physically and sexually abused his biological son Kris, resulting in Kris drowning himself in a lake at the age of 13. Several years later, Mr. and Mrs. Walker adopted Charlie and Mr. Walker repeated the pattern with Charlie by physically and sexually abusing him, which drove him to become Jill Roberts' accomplice when she offered him a scrap of kindness. Overall, Mr. Walker is the primary instigator behind most of Charlie's psychological issues and it's clear that before long, he would be released from prison to torment more children.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Charlie's motivation. He only received abuse from his adopted parents, and tried to look for love with Jill.
  • Karma Houdini:
    • Downplayed. Mr. and Mrs. Walker will go to prison for 10 years and the former will have to register as a sex offender, but other than that, there's little the police can do to stop him from tormenting more kids because the main witness (Charlie) is dead.
    • Played straight with the nurse who leaks that Kirby is pregnant with Charlie's child. She just continues with her job.
  • Kids Are Cruel: The kids at Jensen's schools liked to chant "Jensen's dad was a killer!"
  • Last Disrespects: Defied by the Woodsboro police, who set up cars around Jill and Charlie's graves so nobody would vandalize them.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: Kirby gets the name for her son from seeing a 1961 Jensen car.
  • Lonely Funeral: Jill is given a private funeral service paid for by Sidney, who didn't want anyone to crash it.
  • The Mentor: Sidney gives Kirby advice on how to handle the fallout of being a Final Girl.
  • Mr. Exposition: Dewey and Sidney fill Kirby in on what happened after she was stabbed by Charlie.
  • Old Shame: In-universe, Sidney tells Kirby that she regrets not giving Randy a chance.
  • Outliving One's Offspring:
    • Mr. and Mrs. Walker outlived their son Kris, leading to Charlie's adoption.
    • It's mentioned that Mr. Loomis and the Machers still live in Woodsboro after their sons were killed in the first film.
  • Parental Abandonment: Nobody knows who Charlie's birth parents are.
  • Point of Divergence: The story splits off from canon when Trevor doesn't show up and kill the mood between Charlie and Kirby, who have sex.
  • Posthumous Sibling: Kris Walker is an adopted version for Charlie; several years passed between Kris's drowning and Charlie's adoption.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Charlie's adoptive parents left Woodsboro after his funeral. And for good reason.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Charlie wanted to kill his adoptive parents for the sexual abuse he received, but Jill never called for it. Instead she used it to string him along until she had no more use for him.
  • Sequelitis: In-universe, the Stab film series goes through at least one set of reboots where everyone’s names are changed and someone comes back as a superhuman.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Kirby had sex with Charlie shortly before he stabbed her, and he got her pregnant. Also counts as One-Night-Stand Pregnancy.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: The film left Kirby's fate hanging, but this fanfic has her survive outright as its' premise.
  • Spiteful Spit: Kirby spits on Jill's grave, but regrets it almost immediately.
  • Squick: In-universe. When the new family moves into the Walker residence and finds the photos of Mr. Walker abusing Charlie, the mother is on the verge of throwing up.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Kirby's son Jensen greatly resembles Charlie with his dark hair and blue eyes.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Charlie's parents are revealed to be adopted.
  • Villain Protagonist: Some chapters begin with a flashback from Charlie's point of view.
  • Wham Shot: In Chapter 13, a family has moved into the Walkers' house when they find a loose panel in the back of one of the cabinets. What's behind it? Photos of Charlie's adopted father abusing him.
  • Where It All Began: The epilogue has Kirby and Jensen driving to Woodsboro after his college graduation to visit Charlie's grave.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: The abuse that Charlie received from his adopted father drove him to commit mass murder as Jill's accomplice.
