Go To

Super RWBY Sisters is the first of an ongoing series of crossover fanfics written by Nan The Keyblade Master, commonly known as the Super RWBY Universe. It combines the Rooster Teeth animated series RWBY and the Nintendo video game series Super Mario Bros. and Super Smash Bros., alongside many other franchises of various different genres.

When the Grimm invade the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario, Luigi and Peach have been kidnapped by Bowser, it is up to Team RWBY to put a stop to this and save the Mushroom Kingdom! But who's this mysterious trio that's working with Bowser?

The original story was completed on October 22 2016, but has had 33 follow up stories, 10 one shots, one chibi-themed spin off, one PSA story, two side stories, a no longer canon Halloween one shot, two non-canon April Fools stories, one abridged recap story (Written by one of the author's friends), and an AU series.

The follow ups can all be found here

Super RWBY Sisters and its follow-ups contains the following tropes

    open/close all folders

     Tropes # to B
  • 1-Up:
    • Seeing as it is a series set in the Mario world, it makes sense. They don't appear often, but when they do they are used to bring people back to life. Like when one is accidentally used to bring Dry Bowser back to life.
    • Another time it was used was when Pyrrha used it on Jaune after a Honedge drained his life.
    • Luigi would later gift Summer Rose one so she could fully return to life.
    • They have been popping up all over the place in Super RWBY 3D Land, something that Chiaki finds highly suspicious.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Elder Princess Shroob beat up the heroes hard, and not even the Star Allies could take her down. So what does Sonic do? He brings out The Chaos Emeralds to power up his team to turn the tide of battle and beat her once and for all.
  • Academy of Adventure: Beacon Academy is this, with the school being the hub for most of the characters and being the starting point for the start of some of their adventures. Even at some points the stories will show how the actions of some of the villains affect the students and teachers at Beacon.
  • Adapted Out:
    • The Mii Fighters are not depicted as being members of the Smash Roster. Instead, some of the characters who became costumes are instead actual fighters, such as Travis Touchdown, Dante, Lloyd Irving, and Shantae.
    • In terms of story moments, "Heroes In Another Dimension" is not present in "JINX Star Allies", mainly due to the heroes not allowing the Mages and Hyness to sneak away in the chaos of the Final Battle.
  • Adaptational Badass: Several characters, be it hero or villain, have been made stronger and better fighters in this universe.
    • Mario has been made a stronger fighter, to the point that some consider him one of the strongest fighters in-universe and even getting to the point that when he fights with Bowser Jr. in Super RWBY Sunshine, he went easy on the kid to give him a chance.
    • Jaune, being one of the weakest fighters in the original series, is more competent and a more capable fighter than his canon counterpart. This also is due to the training he received from fighters in the Super Smash Bros roster.
    • Dr. Toadley has his moment when he binds The Atlas Military and the White Fang in light so they wouldn't destroy Peach's Castle. He tells them that they should settle their differences in the garden.
    • Weiss is becoming stronger in each story, even holding her own against some bosses. Even Winter is surprised on how strong she's getting. After Weiss obtains her Fierce Deity Transformation, Blake pointed out she has become the strongest member of Team RWBY at this point.
    • Of all people, the SA-X gets this treatment as it's far more intelligent than its canon counterpart. It's able to use other weapons other than simply destroy things with Super Missiles. For example, it uses a charged up WAVE BEAM and nearly obliterated SPBRR with it!
    • Even some of the bosses in SPBRR Fusion get new attacks to make them even more deadly and serious threat.
    • Any enemy that falls under Calasmos's influence becomes more powerful.
    • Most of the characters that make an appearance in this story can fall under this trope due to how the author has written them all.
  • Adaptational Deviation:
    • The series deviates hard from the source material, taking place after the events of RWBY Volume 2 and with Volume 3 not having happened yet and the Vytal Festival being cancelled indefinitely due to both Dry Bowser and Calasmos. Furthermore, the stories take the concepts of the main games it uses, but gives it its own spin by adding additional plotlines and lore to games which originally didn't even have that much story to begin with.
    • Several additional characters were added to the Super Smash Bros roster that weren't in the original game, with such additions including, Team RWBY, Team JNPR, Team CFVY, Team JINX, Sienna Khan, Carolina, Shovel Knight, Tom Nook, Lyn, Waluigi, Hat Kid, Doom Guy and Chiaki Nanami. As well as making any character confirmed as mii costumes an actual fighter in the roster such as Dante and Shantae. Some character even became Assist Trophies such as Sun, Neptune, Penny, Zwei and Ibuki.
    • Also two members of the Smash roster were removed for good due to evil actions such was the fate of Dark Samus and Ridley due to the events of Galaxy 2.
    • Chapter 24 of IF has Chiaki being transported to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess but Fi from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is present as is Gerudo Town from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is led by a Gerudo Chief.
  • Adaptational Expansion:
  • Adaptational Karma: At the end of Rise of the Mammalians, Lil' Judd is hauled off in a cat carrying case after everyone discovered he wanted to kill Judd for whatever reason.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • As of the ending to RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions Neo has been made significantly more heroic, even creating a bit of an Odd Friendship with Luigi and Marnie.
    • Esdeath in this series has become a lot more heroic in comparison to her home series, even teaming up with the protagonists on occasion, due to the fact that she was raised by General Ironwood as his surrogate daughter after her parents were killed by Grimm when she was a little girl. Doesn't stop some people from feeling uneasy when she is nearby.
  • Adaptational Name Change: The Carrot from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is referred to as a Super Carrot in Wings of Ruin.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Whitley is becoming this, being far nicer than his canon counterpart, less antagonistic towards his sisters and was willing to live with his mother in the Mushroom Kingdom by the end of RWBY Partners in Time. Even showing signs that he is willing to fix the broken relationship he had with his sisters. He continues to grow as a character, even forming a relationship with a Faunus.
    • The Shadow Queen of the main world is a good person who helps her granddaughter Myra.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The Marigolds in canon were described as rich snobs with a prejudice against the Faunus like most of the Atlas upper class. Here they were the ones who willingly helped fund Honest's experiments of turning orphaned Faunus children into soldiers of war by experimenting on their semblances.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Downplayed. While the Touhou characters are indeed still strong, if they leave their planet Gensokyo they become weakened to where others would have a better chance at fighting them instead of being one-shotted.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg:
    • The Iron Masked Marauder begged to be spared while being dragged to the Distortion World.
    • Ruby is left a broken mess and begs for her sister to help her fight Dark Ruby in the third chapter of Isle of Armor.
  • All Just a Dream: The last skit of chibi chapter 106 turned out to be this. Ruby had defeated Salem in battle only for it to be revealed to have been a dream by Zwei.
  • Alternate Universe:
    • The Paper RWBY stories take place in a different universe from the non-paper based stories. Although it is heavily implied that the events that happen in the non-paper universe do happen in the paper universe, but the same can't be said for the events that happen in the Paper RWBY stories.
    • The chibi story also takes place in an alternate universe to the main one, with the events of the stories happening in that universe. But the difference being that a comedic spin was added to some situations.
    • Dimentio pokes fun of Dark Ruby missing an arm and a leg, even going out of his way to making a pun off of it. Her response is flipping him off in annoyance.
    • The IF Chapters are this, showing how things turned out if an event was changed such as Dark Ruby becoming good after receiving visions of her deaths in the main universe and other IF chapters and getting advice from Madame Clairvoya and Xena/Yagami being raised by Esdeath after Xena is shot into the frozen north near where Esdeath and General Ironwood live.
  • An Aesop: In many stories such as Isle of Armor and Wings of Ruin: If you're having problems of some sort, tell someone. If you hide it and don't tell anybody, it will only lead to bigger problems down the road when people do find out.
  • And I Must Scream: Pyrrha finds herself in trouble when she wields the Metal Cap in Super RWBY 64. She loses the ability to speak and her polarity gets out of control. Luckily, they were able to take it off before things got worse.
  • April Fools' Day: The one shot RWBY: Outbreak was written for April Fools Day in 2021, showing Remnant being devastated by an attack from the Flood with all the characters perishing in the attack. Only for it to be revealed to be a story being told by Caboose.
  • Apocalypse Anarchy: Remnant almost falls into this after Salem's reveal, many people are freaking out, looting, causing chaos and attracting Grimm. Thanks to Ruby's speech, this is narrowly avoided.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Both Adam and Seryu get their arms ripped off by an angry Azure Rathalos after mortally injuring Weiss.
    • Marnie suffer a arm lost after jumping to prevent Bowser Jr from being killed by Damian.
    • In Chapter 19 of IF, Esdeath uses her Semblance to replace Xena's hands, feet and part of her ears with ice due to severe frostbite getting to Xena as she was wandering around in the frozen north for a very long time.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In the second chapter of RWBY: Isle of Armor, Mustard is examining Ruby and says this line:
Mustard: Self doubting, a dark secret about a doppelganger, a bit impulsive as of late, questioning herself if she's really worthy to be a team leader... and lover of all cookies.
  • Ascended Extra: Plenty of examples such as Willow, Whitley and Winter and Mercedes. Sometimes, it also depends on the story such as Orbot, Cubot and Metal Sonic taking part in Frontiers.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: This happens a lot to Bowser, who has had several instances of him turning giant while fighting the protagonists. But the most prominent example of this would have to be in RWBY: Bowser's Inside Story, with him turning giant to fight his own castle, a tower, a train and Peach's Castle. With him even turning into his Fury Bowser form.
  • Author Avatar: Chapter 186 of Chibi has Nan and his friend Flash making cameos as part of the PSA on good sportsmanship.
  • Back from the Dead: The Universal Reset at the end of the first Galaxy story ended up bringing some characters back to life such as Goro Akechi and Junko.
  • Badass Adorable: After Wendy traps everyone in ice in World, Zwei, Yoshi and Poochy team up to free them after beating up Wendy.
  • Badass Boast: After getting shot in the head by Ironwood, Bowser shrugs it off and says this:
Bowser: Buddy, I've been shot in the face by laser pistols, Super Scopes, those peashooters that those Phantom Dorks shoot me with, and by those teenage girls. What makes you think that little peashooter would strike me down?
  • Badass Normal: Captain Goomba and his squad, they might be normal everyday minions anyone could take out. Their squad was able to make it through the Beanbean Kingdom, fighting against whatever Fawful throws at them. Eventually leading to them teaming up with Mario's group near the end.
    • Team MAJC are a unique team with no Semblance or Aura and yet can kick butt and defeat powerful foes.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • K. Rool won thrice against Yang in DK 64. One for getting rid of her aura, humiliating her in Gloomy Galleon and blowing her up along with DK Isle. Yang comes back after that one though.
    • Bowser won against Mario and RWBY in Paper RWBY.
    • Adam and Seryu won their fight against Weiss and Blake in RWBY: The Crown Tundra. Laser-Guided Karma promptly kicks in thanks to an enraged Azure.
    • Dimentio succeed in mentally breaking Paper Ruby despite his plans with the Chaos Heart failing. Chaos Ruby would later be mentally restored by her positive universe counterpart in Gaiden Chapter 165 thus negating that victory.
    • Despite being the Anti-Hero of the story, Bowser still won at the end of RWBY: Bowser's Inside Story.
    • Despite not being an active villain in the Burning of Rome, Eggman was able to succeed in exposing Cinder, as well as exposing the shadow war that's been going on between Salem and Ozpin to the entire world. Ensuring that Remnant would be in a state of fear and distrust.
    • Downplayed. Dry Bowser and his gang more or less come out intact without a problem. With Viola, the cause of the disasters they've read, joining them alive and well and having weakened her former friend Myra without cost by the end of the story.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • In Super RWBY 3D Land, everyone thinks that Bowser's kidnapped Princess Peach again especially because Fell Star Strikers ended with the Koopa King giving an evil laugh when the blizzard blew all the Super Leaves off the Tail Tree. Chapter 6 reveals it was in fact Grimm Ruby as part of her insane obsession with killing Ruby.
    • Chapter 10 of IF (which is about Death taking Ruby under his wing), seems like it's going to play out similarly to chapter 5, with Ruby getting fed up with Yang and said mentor using that to corrupt her into a Face–Heel Turn. It actually turns out that Death is a decent mentor and has zero desire to actually corrupt Ruby, Ruby remains the same lovable person as ever, even working out her issues with Yang, and the one evil thing she actually does (Ret Goneing Dark Pit) is treated as something she really didn't want to do and later realizes was completely avoidable.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Every once in a while, the heroes will go to outer space and they can breathe just fine without needing anything to protect them.
  • Battle Aura: Several character displayed this throughout the series.
    • Yang when using the Hadoken.
    • Starting from RWBY: Superstar Saga plus Bowser's Minions, the Pep Power being used by several characters whenever it appears.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: In The Healing of the Soul, Xena and Dark Xena, while in Mementos, end up fighting for control of the body and to settle their differences once and for all. Though it doesn't end how you would expect it to.
  • Beach Episode:
    • Chapter 184 of Super RWBY Chibi involves this, set up by Ibuki due to the fact that it's hot and Chapter 183 ended with a beach segment.
    • Also occurs in Chapter 211 of Gaiden involving several characters such as Team MAJC, Xena and Yagami and Iris hanging out at Sparkling Waters
  • Behemoth Battle:
    • The final battle of Super RWBY Sisters involves Bowser getting gigantic through magic, while the Mario Bros, Peach and Team RWBY get turned gigantic through the use of several Mega Mushrooms. After which a brawl between the behemoths ensues, ending with the heroes beating Bowser in the fight.
    • The Goomba Squad fights an actual Behemoth at Bowser's Castle in RWBY: Superstar Saga plus Bowser's Minions. If it weren't for the Koopalings backing them up, they would have lost, not to mention becoming the Behemoth's dinner.
    • A Shroobified mutated Behemoth started to fight the heroes after eating Dark Weiss alive, but Esdeath quickly dispatched it.
    • Two Behemoths showed up in RWBY: Bowser's Inside Story. A Fawfulized Behemoth shows up right after Esdeath frees Sephiroth from his petrified prison, much to Weiss's and the Winter Ops' dismay. And then another Behemoth shows up to help aid Heartless Bowser, where it would attack Ganondorf and Sephiroth, the former proceeding to fight it and the latter letting Ganon take care of it and only stepping in if he needed to.
  • Benevolent Boss: Bowser to his Koopa Troop and King Bob-Omb in Chapter 19 of IF as he listens to a Bob-Omb who suggests shooting Xena into a snowbank in the artic tundra instead of Toad Town because if Xena survives, she may keep coming after King Bob-Omb.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Francisca has a brief bit of rage when she finds out Susie turned her home planet into an ice cream parlor.
    • While normally calm, Arceus loses it when he finds out Deoxys has been Shroobified.
  • Big Bad: Mostly Bowser, but sometimes the spotlight is given to people like Medusa, Hades, King Boo, K. Rool, Cackletta, Lord Hyness, the Three Mage Sisters, Void Termina, and Princess Shroob, and many more as the series continues.
    • The three main villains of the entire series are Salem, Dry Bowser, and Calamos due how their actions have affected the whole series as a whole.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Every once in a while, there's sometimes a fighting dust cloud with two characters beating the crap out of each other.
  • Big Boo's Haunt: There have been several haunted mansions found throughout the series. There is the second half of world six in Super RWBY Sisters, the mansion from JNPR's Mansion and the trope namer Big Boo's Haunt in Super RWBY 64.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At the end of Partners of Time, Elder Princess Shroob has the heroes at her mercy, only to be stopped by the timely arrival of the Star Allies and Team JINX.
  • Big Fancy Castle: Bowser has plenty of these through the series and some of the stories that feature him as the main villain have the main characters storm the place for the final battle.
  • Big, Screwed-Up Family: The Schnee family, just like in RWBY has the same issues as in the actual show. However it actually gets worse at some points in this universe. With Jacques hiring the Wario Bros to have Weiss kidnapped and brought back to Atlas, and after his arrest it gets worse. With Willow's drinking getting worse and Whitley is implied to be in a mental hospital. The Schnee family does recover later on in the series.
  • Birds of a Feather: Pit and Ruby are both upbeat, energetic, young looking warriors who are great fighters nonetheless. It's basically Love at First Sight between the two of them.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Several stories in this universe had this happen.
    • In the ending to JNPR's Manion, King Boo was defeated and his hostages were freed. But at the cost of him destroying the bodies of Jade Gadd's parents, whom he had already turned to stone at an earlier point in time. Making them unable to be saved by the heroes
    • In the ending to Super RWBY Sunshine, Bowser was beaten and the Inklings were freed from their mind control, but Ruby, Yang, Tai and Qrow had a heartbreaking reunion with the spirit of Summer Rose.
    • Though the ending to RWBY DK 64 most likely tops most of this, King K Rool managed to nearly kill the entirety of Team RWBY, used the aura he drained from Yang against her, and the fact that Ruby nearly killed her own sister in battle led to her developing a lingering fear she is still recovering from.
    • While the ending of RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions can be seen as a happy one for most of the characters, it can be seen as less so for Mario. Luigi moves out once his house has been completed after the adventure is over, leaving Mario to be alone in his house for the first time in his life. Not to mention, Weiss is kidnapped by the Wario Bros on orders from her father.
    • The ending to RWBY Partners in Time can count as this. Although the Shroobs were beaten, and the survivors were spared, things didn't go so well for Ruby. Getting beaten an inch within her life by her dark counterpart and ending up in the infirmary. Which leads to her fleeing to the Galar region, with her friends having no idea where she is. Though Yang's agonizing scream says it all.
    • The ending for RWBY: The Crown Tundra counts for this. Despite scenes showing us stuff like Ruby successfully using her silver eyes, Weiss meeting up with her father in jail with Blake and Neo... there was a mighty Solgaleo and Lunala who were mortally wounded by the Ultra Beasts. In the Solgaleo's final moments, he asks Yang to take care of the Cosmog for him. While Yang accepts, the Solgaleo gives Apollo one final look before passing on.
    • The ending Super Paper RWBY is the most bitter ending yet. Despite the worlds being saved, Paper Ruby is emotionally broken thanks to Dimentio's actions. This resulted in Paper Ruby leaving Beacon Academy and her Team to return home to Patch. Dimentio is also revived by Dry Bowser and joins his growing faction.
    • The ending for SPBRR: Fusion takes the cake for bittersweet endings. Despite taking out the X-Parasites for good, the heroes are scarred and wounded. Blake takes the worst of it and will never be the same again. Also unknown to the others, One X-Parasite survives and becomes the new SA-X, heading to planet ZDR.
    • IF Chapter 29 ends with Bereto being killed by Nemesis in a Taking You with Me. Luckily, Edelgard kills Nemesis and after Bereto's funeral, Byleth is revealed to be dating Taiyang and Edelgard asks Shez to help her raise a child as a second mother. In the afterlife, Bereto is reunited with Jeralt and Sitri with the latter telling Bereto she's proud of him for not only stopping Nemesis but also putting Byleth on the right path and the chapter ends with them hugging.
    • Oddly, not for Dry Bowsers faction, but for Myra. By the time she hits the present, she loses her Crystal Stars, her old friends, and comes to realize the consequence of her inability to hold Viola back who escaped her crimes. However, she meets up with King Boo, El Cinco, and it's all but stated she'll meet the current heroes to atone for her mistakes.
  • Bizarro Universe: The special worlds in Super RWBY 3D Land are this, an entire separate dimension made out of Grimm, where the water is lava, twisted versions of already found locations are seen and Grimm versions of the heroes, such as Peach and Bowser, are found there.
  • Bland-Name Product: Chapter 261 of Gaiden has Chiaki drinking some Feraligatrade (Gatorade).
  • Blinded by Rage: Super RWBY Gaiden's Chapter 3 shows us a prime example of what happens when you're blinded by revenge and hate. Dark Blake suffers this hard to the point where she ends up getting killed by it.
    • Damian's rage over being defeated constantly by Bowser Jr and losing his chance to obtain a human skull. As a result, his rage ultimately lead to his defeat and death.
  • Blindfolded Vision: Lucario demonstrates this on Cardin in Super RWBY Gaiden's 11th Chapter. It does not end well for Cardin.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: This tends to happen to the poor fools that managed to get themselves captured by the main villain of a story
    • Fawful was able to brainwash Bowser's minions and the koopalings in RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions.
    • This also happens to Bowser's minions in Super Paper RWBY, though this time they were brainwashed by Dimentio. In the same story Luigi and Team JNPR are also brainwashed, made to oppose the heroes and have their personalities flipped.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Chapter 18 of PSA on Harems is the first chapter to not involve any of the Reds and Blues. Chapter 20 is hosted by Jack Skellington due to it being Halloween though the Reds and Blues appear. Chapter 21 is hosted by Sonia. Chapter 22 is hosted by JINXY, Futaba, Rantaro and Umber
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: There were a few fourth wall breaks in Superstar Saga.
    • In chapter 112 of Super RWBY chibi the fourth wall gets broken when Dark Xena, in an alternative version of the climax of The Healing of the Soul, gets interrupted by the title of the next skit. She is sure to let her displeasure be known to the audience.
    • The fourth wall gets absolutely mutilated in the second chapter of Galaxy. First Caboose mentions an early Chibi skit, then Travis mentions to Carolina that the chapter might be delayed and the age rating will go up if he told her his whole story and then Ibuki comes along and puts the fourth wall out of its misery, then Travis steps on its corpse as he's looking at the screen and doing the ol' cuckoo gesture while pointing at Ibuki.
    • In chapter 6 of Super Paper RWBY, Paper Bowser does this by ripping apart the boss title he was given before writing in a new title to replace it.
  • Breather Episode:
    • RWBY: Isle of Armor counts as this. No end of the world stuff, no evil villains, just a good ol' day in paradise.
    • Some of the Super RWBY Gaiden chapters also counts for this as well.
    • The last chapter in RWBY: Bowser's Inside Story would count as this. After everyone has been through hell and back, especially Marnie, they all deserved a moment to breathe and relax while also helping to restore Toad Town and Peach's Castle.
    • Chapter 29 of "Galactic Conquest Prime" sees the heroes taking some time off to goof off in a Disney Park galaxy, with the sole fight being nothing compared what the heroes had been through up to that point.
    • Super RWBY Strikers Charged is pretty much this. Everyone having fun in the Strikers Tournament, which is sandwiched between "Galactic Conquest Prime" and "Dread", two of the most intense stories with very little down time.
    • Following the very intense Super RWBY 3D Land, which, among other things, saw both Dark Ruby and Dimentio at their worst with very little humor throughout, RWBY and the Seven Sirens is a much needed break, with the story's tone being much more lighthearted, the Seven Sirens themselves undergoing Adaptational Heroism and the other big threat of the story, the Devil, is laughably incompetent with only a few moments of actually being close to the threats from previous stories.
    • Velvet's Illumina Vacation also counts as this, with Velvet exploring the Lental Region and taking pictures of all the Pokémon present. There's not even a villain!
    • Chapter 3 of Super RWBY IF, which comes after a universe where Esdeath was raised by Salem leading to a lot of death and despair, is a hilarious romp of watching Dark Ruby get what's coming to her over and over again.
    • Chapter 6 of IF also counts, as following the birth of Sapphire Onyx and being followed by a story about Junko staying evil and becoming an insane Phazon Queen Hero Killer, is a chapter about Ruby and Pit having a different Meet Cute with each other, with them still becoming a couple by the end of it.
    • Another Super RWBY IF ones comes in the form of chapter 14, which follows the three-part story of characters taking part in the events of Halo: Reach, leading to several beloved characters ultimately dying, complete with Ruby recreating the events of the final mission-a Suicide Mission where Noble Six tries to take out as many enemies as they can before falling. Chapter 14, on the other hand, is a mostly sweet story detailing Weiss being raised by Kirumi in Menagerie, where she becomes Childhood Friends with Blake, Ilia and Adam, with the only real dark moments being at the end.
    • Chapter 28 of IF counts as well as after the three-part Chiaki being iskae'd to Hyrule and it ends with her being corrupted by the Triforce of Power after returning to her home world when she realizes she can use the Triforce to wish away threats like Bowser, the chapter focuses on Yang being a half-genie with moments like the Unnamed Goose being Mayor of Goldi island and getting along better with Yang than Shantae did with Mayor Scuttlebutt and Futaba being terrified of Rottytops. There are only two dark parts with Raven dropping off Yang with Pietro as a baby because of Salem hunting half-genies and Risky Boots doing a Villain Team-Up with Salem at the end.
    • Chapter 31 of IF, which is sandwiched between a failed attempted by the heroes at stopping Twilight Chiaki and causing her to learn about the multiverse in the process, possibly making her a bigger threat in the future, and Clayton going on a killing spree in Hisui, is a sweet story about Cinder getting adopted into Pyrrha's family and becoming a woman worthy of being the Fall Maiden.
  • Brick Joke:
    • Viridi thought Pit and Ruby hooking up would never happen so she said she'd eat a Poison Ivy Sandwich if they did. She goes through with it after Pit and Ruby are officially a couple, much to Hades' amusement.
    • In Thousand Year Door, Peach tricked the X-Nauts into dousing the fortress in perfume on Grodus' orders. Bowser brings up that Peach could stink up an entire moon fortress with her perfume if she wanted to in Partners in Time.
    • In Super RWBY Sunshine, Crazy Hand is seen spamming Rosalina's inbox. In Galaxy, Rosalina mentions she had to block Crazy Hand's address just to get some peace and quiet.
    • In Thousand Year Door, Luigi throws away a Book of Logic after being unable to find a reason how they were breathing in space. In Super Paper RWBY, after being unable to breathe in space all of a sudden, Weiss brings it up and Bowser wonders who would be crazy enough to read it. We then cut to The Moon where we see Rosalina grabbing it out of curiosity.
    • Chapter 188 of Gaiden starts with Umber getting ready to kidnap Princess Peach, only for him to get dragged away by Riku. So after an entire chapter filled with keyblade and summoning shenanigans, Umber returns home and realises he forgot to kidnap Peach, leading to him deciding to do it the following day.
    • In Chapter 10 of Skyward Sword, Death mentions that Kyoko is really fun to play Texas Hold'em with. And the end of the chapter, when he comes to visit her in the hospital, they end up playing together.
  • Bring It: Sometimes, one of the characters do this to their opponent in a fight.
  • Buffet Buffoonery: Shy Guy Buffet is a restaurant with a buffet located in Toad Town to which a lot of people tend to go. They usually do this if they are hungry or to take a break from the adventure they are currently on.
  • Bullying the Dragon:
    • Jacques Schnee stiffed the Wario Bros for taking too long to kidnap Weiss. The Wario Bros proceed to rob him underneath his nose.
    • Then there's the Elite Trio. They thought it would be a good idea to send Kyoko and Aoi on a wild goose chase so they could lock Bowser up. They fail to realize that they beat up their ambush with barely a scratch on them while taunting them that they won't get Bowser out of the safe... right until Kyoko does and the King of Awesome towers before the trio.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Qrow and Tai after being absent for multiple stories, made a comeback at the end of RWBY DK 64.
    • Sun and Neptune, who returned in RWBY Partners in Time.
    • Cinder also makes a grand return ever since her first appearance back in Super RWBY Sisters.
    • Nabbit and Sableye return for a brief appearance in Frontiers.
  • Butt-Monkey: Most of the characters in the chibi story are given this treatment, but the most notable examples include:
    • Jaune, who usually gets the short end of the stick in most of the skits he is involved in.
    • Luigi, who usually tends to get hurt in most skits he appears in and seems to be the universe's punching bag.
    • Then there is Pit, who usually gets hurt due to his own hubris or stupidity.
    • Junko, but she normally has it coming, considering her canon actions.

     Tropes C to E
  • Call-Back: Due to the way the series is written call backs are made to explain previous events to other characters. However the best one has to be from Super RWBY Sunshine, in which a call back is made an earlier incident. Which leads to Pit's temporary demise.
    • In The Healing of the Soul, they head off to where it all began for Xena's first moments as Dark Xena. Bob-omb Battlefield.
    • The fifth chapter of Super RWBY Gaiden was practically a love letter to Super RWBY Sisters, showing how far how everyone (and the series) has come.
    • After Knuckles beats the crap out of Nabbit and Sableye, he dumps out everything that Nabbit had stolen. Blizzarus immediately makes her escape after being kidnapped by him in Super RWBY Sisters.
    • Yang flashbacks to the time where she has a hard time in the Watermelon Festival after coming across a Cataquack in Beach Bowl Galaxy.
    • Happens a few times in Bowser's Inside Story. One such moment involves them putting together a star in order to get the Star Cure. Ruby is understandably nervous given what happened last time they put together a star-like object. Then there's Bowser who reminisces of all the happier moments he's had in the series, much to the Nutsoglobin's dismay. It happens again when the heroes are in the Memory Banks in search for the code to Bowser's vault. The heroes see Bowser as a baby fighting Yoshi, then they see him doing the conga from the very first story, which amuses Rose/Xiao Long siblings and Daisy.
    • At the beginning of RWBY DK 64, team RWBY is encouraging Shantae over her chances of being in Smash Bros. Come the Chibi chapter where she's confirmed (since Mii Costumes aren't in the story, the characters who become costumes are instead fighters), the team are the first ones to cheer for her and as revealed by Wario Land: JINX IT!, they also were the ones who came to pick her up.
  • Camera Abuse: Poor Lakitu. He's usually on the receiving end of the hijinks that typically end up destroying his cameras in PSAs.
  • The Cameo: There were quite a few of them in RWBY: DK 64. Some of them include Nikki, Terry, Knuckles and most notably, Sans.
    • A few Marvel characters showed up in a few Chibi skits, Hulk and Deadpool were beating up Ryu while Lystihea completely annihilated Thanos with the Infinity Stones stored in her Tome. What does she say after that?
      Lysithea: Hey Tony, you're welcome.

    • The 38th chapter of Super RWBY Gaiden had chock full of cameos when Sora and Co try to go visit Remnant. First they see Master Chief duking it out with Locke, then Sora overhears Dr. Nefarious talking to Clank being in the center of the universe. (Give or take fifty feet), then they see Sly Cooper being chased by a cop with a rocket launcher. They then witness Scorpion murdering a poor bastard, then they wind up in The Badlands where they witness the Mercs killing each other. Sora is then amazed by Genji saving Tracer from a massive robot mech, then Sora chats with KRATOS, of all people. Finally, they would end up meeting Sackboy.

  • Cathartic Exhalation: Happens to Whispy Woods when General Shroob's UFO crash lands and nearly runs him over.
  • Cat Fight: Peach and Mimi had this in Super Paper RWBY.
  • Central Theme: Inaction. A core theme in the series is that just because your friends, doesn't mean you should allow the other to do whatever they wants. Both for the sake of others and themselves. Ruby and those with her doing their best to ensure everyone doesn't go to far in their anger or desperation. Myra, in contrast, does nothing to reign in Violas worst aspects. Allowing the latter to make disaster after disaster at the distraught of many.
  • Challenging the Chief: Ghira invokes this trope by accident when, looking for Ruby in Hyrule, he gets into a fight with a Silver Lynel and manages to beat it in said fight. He later notes that the other Lynels have now accepted him as part of their pack.
  • Christmas Episode: Super RWBY Chibi has a few of these, with all of the skits posted for those chapters solely revolving around Christmas. Chapter 96 of Gaiden as well.
  • Cliffhanger: RWBY: DK 64's Chapter 16 was this. The readers were left speechless and one of the author's friends called him evil over this.

  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • Summer begins to explain that since Ruby briefly took Dark Ruby's scythe from her, she could use this tactic on anyone with a weapon to use against them. What is Ruby's response?
Ruby: I can slay monsters with Link's Master Sword and go on a master quest to defeat the darkness in Hyrule and-
Summer: Whoa! Slow down now! That's not what I meant at all!
    • In the final chapter of Skyward Sword, Erza shoves a man against a wall and points her sword at his nose after he knocked Pyrrha (Ezra's descendant)'s slice of strawberry shortcake to the ground...despite the fact it was an honest mistake. The man lampshades this when he says "What the hell is your problem, lady?!".
  • Composite Character:
    • The Spiritomb from the Huisian Legend that is formed from finding all the wisps is revealed to be the same one that Cynthia uses on her team.
    • In Skyward Sword, Naryu is depicted as looking as she does in the The Legend of Zelda: Oracle Games.
  • Conscription:
    • Poor Marnie. Despite her protests, she got unwittingly listed into the Koopa Troop from a grateful Bowser after saving him and his Group of Awesome.
    • After finding out that Jaune lied his way into Beacon, Bowser happily enlists him into the Koopa Troop.
    • Paper Bowser, meanwhile, conscripts Steve into his troop after he rebuilt his castle.
  • Content Warnings: Normally, the author doesn't really have a content warning on his stories, but he went out of his way to put one in on the seventh chapter of Gaiden. Considering it's based off of the DOOM series...
  • Conveniently Cellmates: This trope gets invoked when The Iron Masked Marauder gets thrown into the distortion world, who should he find there? Cyrus the former leader of Team Galactic.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: When fighting Elder Princess Shroob, the heroes point out that had the Shroobs simply explained their problems rather then attempting to destroy everything, they would have been happy to let them live in the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Crossover Couple: The series has a few of these.
    • Rose Feathers: Ruby Rose x Pit
    • Golden Flame: Yang Xiao Long x Claude
    • Blue Lizard: Ilia x Mercedes
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Iggy might be a total doofus, but he went out of his way to create Mechakoopas that shoot missiles and shoot lightning. Even Wendy is impressed.
  • Crossover Relatives: Sun's sister is revealed to be Leone from Akame ga Kill!
  • Cue the Sun: This happens at the end of JNPR's Mansion, after King Boo is defeated and his influence over the area removes the clouds in the area.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Yang, despite being drunk, was remarkably perceptive. She points out that Bowser's airships are coming, but Weiss and the others write it off as drunken ramblings. Literally five seconds later...
  • Curbstomp Battle: This happens a few times in the story. Usually to characters who end up meeting those of other worlds without being prepared.
    • Sienna and Ironwood, for example, get easily beaten by Bowser as he's a lot stronger than most foes either have battled with Bowser. He also used his brain to get the drop on them. Needless to say, both are mad.
    • Those who were not familiar with Diggernaut got their butts whooped by it.
    • Laxus takes down Shin Yang with a single punch to the head in 3D Land.
  • Curse Cut Short: At the end of Winter's Dusk, Steven lets out a "WHAT THE FU-" after Viridi, Phosphora, Velvet's Shaymin and Suicune turn the remains of Argus into a nature reserve.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Weiss, after being kidnapped by the Wario Bros and being held hostage in her own home by her father in the one-shot Operation Winter Moonlight, managed to free herself from her own room using her semblance and her Pokemon. She then managed to escape the house and get to mission control, all while the people rescuing her confronted the Wario Bros and Weiss's father.
    • Princess Daisy is this as well, beating up anyone who tries to kidnap her. Getting to the point that even Bowser is afraid of getting near her.
  • Dance Line: When Bowser successfully captured Peach and the Mario Bros, he started dancing in celebration. It soon turned into a conga line with his troops and the Grimm. It pops up as one of Bowser's good memories in Inside Story, much to the heroes' amusement.
  • Darker and Edgier: While the series is known for it's dark elements, it's usually light hearted for the most part, save for a few stories such as RWBY: Partners in Time and Super Paper RWBY.
    • And then there's SPBRR Fusion and HOO BOY, it will quickly come apparant as to why it's Rated M.
    • Then there's Galactic Conquest Prime which has Ridley and Dark Samus as the main villains with lovely things such as Viridi getting corrupted by Phazon and Dimentio giving Ruby memories of what he did to Paper Ruby in Super Paper RWBY.
    • And there's also RWBY: The Hisuian Legend which has several characters including Team RWBY, N and Gloria being warped back in time by Arceus to stop Ghetsis and Team Plasma from destroying the bonds between humans and Pokémon with Chapter 8 in particular having Mars starting to fade away due to Arezu being killed in Chapter 7 and Arceus having to warp Mars, Saturn and Jupiter back in time to the exact moment before Arezu's death leading Mars perfoming a Taking the Bullet to save Arezu.
    • In Super Mario 64, the war between the Bob-Ombs and Bob-Omb Buddies was an Informed Attribute and a Silly Reason for War. Here, the war is very destructive, having killed tons of homes and families, including Xena's and causing her to develop Dark Xena as a Split Personality until the events of The Healing Of The Soul.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Some stories have characters appear who in their own series doesn't get much screen time.
    • In Super RWBY 64 Team CFVY, Penny, Doc, and Daisy are given the spotlight.
    • In JNPR's Mansion, Team JNPR, along with Luigi, is given main character duty.
    • Operation: Winter Moonlight has Futaba Sakura and a team of OC's of one of the author's collaborators take the spotlight to save Weiss.
    • JINX's Star Allies has Penny, Team CFVY and another team of OC's of the author take center stage to help Kirby. Even Dyna Blade and Heavy Lobster gets some love!
    • In RWBY: Partners in Time, Ghira, Kali, Winter, Sienna, and Ironwood take the spotlight during the story. Even Ilia got some love during the sidelines.
    • The biggest example of this would be Super RWBY Chibi in which every character introduced in the main stories gets a skit dedicated to them.
    • Lakitu takes the spotlight during Chapter 15 of PSA after Washington and Carolina decide not to do the PSA, so Lakitu goes to the different kingdoms to find out about their Christmas traditions.
  • Death Glare: Chapter 5 of 3D Land has Summer giving one of these to some Pokeys causing them to back up in fear and Klepto the Condor who turns around and flies in the other direction.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Kirby tends to throw friendship hearts at those he defeats. Whispy Woods, Taranza, Dark Meta Knight, Marx, Dyna Blade, Magolor, and Galacta Knight to be exact. Meta Knight questions Dark Meta Knight, however.
  • Defiant to the End: Gloria was ready to go down swinging against Rathalos despite being severely beaten up.
    • Captain Toad stood his ground against a Shroob UFO and was willing to sacrifice himself to save a Toad. Palkia had other ideas.
  • Despair Event Horizon:
    • Ruby has this moment when she believes Yang to be dead thanks to K. Rool.
    • Even when Yang was talking to her, she was at the point that she didn't believe it was the real her until Yang forced her to look at her.
    • And then comes along Super Paper RWBY where Ruby goes into complete despair thanks to Dimentio.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Pit thinks this when Arlon gives Nora a Valkyrie Club.
  • Delayed Reaction: This happens a few times in the series.
Mr. Thwomp: You have to forgive her, she can be stubbornly hotheaded.
Mrs. Thwomp: Yeah, you tell 'em hon! ...wait a minute, HEY!
  • Death Mountain: In some of the adventures the characters have to go through a mountainous area in order for them to proceed. Examples of this include Rock Candy Mines in the first story, some mountainous terrain in Super RWBY World and Tall Tall Mountain in Super RWBY 64.
  • Diabolus ex Nihilo: Morpho Knight, just like in the game he came from he came out of nowhere without any build up from a butterfly trying to take over Galacta Knight.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Ibuki sticks her tongue out at the friggin Icon of Sin itself.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • This has happened several times throughout the series. For example during the first chapter of RWBY: Isle of Armor, despite WBY searching everywhere for Ruby for a about a week, they did not think about to search in the Galar region until Zoey pointed that out.
    • Ruby has this moment when Camrin asks her how long she planned on staying in Galar to get stronger against Dark Ruby. She even facepalms in embarrassment.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: This is parodied in chapter 91 of Super RWBY Chibi in which Gloria is woken up early to watch a Pokemon reveal. It was a bad reveal, and Gloria goes on a rant due to being woken up early.
  • Doorstopper: The series has exceeded four million words and is still going strong, with more planned stories in the future.
  • Double Take: A Slowbro does this in Chapter 139 of Gaiden when it sees Mine in her sleeping bag drift off because of the high tide.
  • Downer Beginning: RWBY: Winter's Dusk starts out innocently, only to veer off from there when Eggman arrives. Who not only infiltrates Atlas, but has Fria tricked into giving him the Staff of Creation for his own use, defeats Ironwood, has Atlas crash into Mantle leaving many homeless, kills Fria and holds all of Remnant hostage with his Death Egg for the Chaos Emeralds.
  • Downer Ending: Super Paper RWBY's ending counts as this. Ruby falls into despair thanks to Dimentio that she can never recover. It came to the point that Ozpin suggested she takes some time off while Reflet temporarily replaces her as leader of RWBY.
  • Drinking Contest: This trope is invoked hard when Yang and K. Rool compete against each other.
  • Driven to Madness: After his defeat in Superstar Saga, Fawful has gone completely off his rocker, especially after Gloria's Kingler whacked him out of the castle. He even scares the Baby Bros away.
  • Duck Season, Rabbit Season: Pulled off a few times such as in Star Allies when Umber tricks Laura during an argument on how to pronounce Team LAFF's name as Laugh or Lakefront, in Chapter 40 of IF when two Zebesians recreate the Bugs and Daffy one as a joke for Samus and Chell and Chapter 41 when Toko tricks Masaru into saying Roman Colosseum instead of Killeseum.
  • Dwindling Party: This happens to the group in chapter 16 of Super Paper RWBY, as the chapter goes on and the group fights their way through Castle Bleck more and more people are lost fighting against opposing forces to ensure that their friends can keep going. The chapter ends with only Mario, Ruby, Akechi and Tippi being to the only ones left standing.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The Koopa Bros appear in Super RWBY Sisters and Super RWBY World, despite belonging in the Paper Universe. They haven't made another appearance as of Paper RWBY.
    • The Super Bell appears in the very first story, despite Super RWBY 3D World not being a thing yet. It hasn't been seen since.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The series is known for having bittersweet endings, but don't worry the readers are also greeted with a ton of happy endings after everything the characters went through over the course of the stories. Examples of this include:
    • RWBY Uprising, after everything that the characters went through, like facing their dark counterparts, Ruby getting her soul torn out and a bunch of other things. The characters can sit back, enjoy their victory and Ruby and Pit make their relationship official.
    • Paper RWBY ends with the characters celebrating their victory over Bowser in the same way that the original game did. And after everything they went through within the story, they earned it.
    • After everything the main characters went through in Paper RWBY: The Thousand Year Door, the story ends with everyone unwinding and taking a well deserved break after taking down the shadow queen and everything she threw at them throughout the story.
    • The one shot Operation: Winter Moonlight ends with the group, after a lengthy struggle, saving Weiss and getting Jacques Schnee arrested. After returning to Beacon, Team RWBY decided to just relax and unwind after the chaos of that night.
    • The one shot The Healing of the Soul ends with Xena and dark Xena finally burying the hatchet and becoming whole again after struggling with each other for several stories. The shot then ends with Xena and her Team taking a vacation to Beach Bowl Galaxy.
    • After everything that happened to all the characters in RWBY: Bowser's Inside Story, the story ends with both heroes and villains having a victory party over beating Fawful and his forces. With everyone taking time to relax and unwind, without having to worry about anything else at that moment.
    • At the end of Wario Land JINX It!, Nyx recovered the deed to her parent's home and has the place rebuilt. Also Erik reunites with his sister and the Schnee Family regains their lost fortune.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Cackletta's Soul.
    • Calasmos' influence tend to make non-human characters turn into powerful abominations, like the Mom Piranha.
    • Void Termina.
  • Enemy Mine:
    • Neo teams up with the heroes in RWBY Superstar Saga plus Bowser's Minions when Roman loses his memories and doesn't recognize her
    • The same goes for Dark Meta Knight, Daroach, and Marx in JINX Star Allies teaming up with the good guys to stop a greater threat.
    • Ridley, of all people, becomes this for SPBRR.
  • Epic Fail: Dedede thought it was a good idea to ask Adeleine to paint Captain Falcon so he could Falcon Punch Kracko's eye. She paints a literal falcon with a captain hat, much to his chagrin.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Aerith played along to Dante's Robot shenanigans, much to Winter's annoyance.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In Super RWBY World, Neo refuses to participate in the Special World, especially when Roman keeps getting knocked into the bottomless pit in Tubular.
    • Bowser, despite kidnapping Peach, is surprisingly gentle with her.
    • Kammy says this in Paper RWBY while bringing the sleeping Tiki into Peach's room and setting her down gently.
Kammy I would've dropped her, but I'm not downright rotten.
    • K. Rool mentions that he will use the Blast-o-Matic to destroy anything he wants, including the Mushroom Kingdom and Dreamland. Even Bowser thought he was going too far.
    • While not necessarily evil, Dark Pit thinks Dark Ruby went too far on what she did to Ruby.
    • Despite his insanity and previous antagonism towards Kirby, Marx was willing to shield Xena from an explosion created by a robot to not trigger her evil side.
    • General Guy did not take kindly to Luigi getting cold feet when Mario contracted Bean Fever.
    • Marx is appalled by how Hyness uses the Mage Sisters as his attacks and uses them as meat shields. Even Dark Meta Knight gets disgusted when Hyness uses them as offerings for Void Termina.
    • When Dark Xena is throwing her teammates is around, Marx says this line:
Marx: This is... this is barbaric! Normally, I'd enjoy watching people suffer but... this ain't right!
    • Roman is disgusted over how the Shroobs have mutated Deoxys.
    • Bowser thinks the Star Gate went too far on humiliating Luigi, Weiss and Jaune.
    • After learning about Junko, Bowser is straight up appalled over what Junko had done to Kyoko, Aoi and their friends.
    • Seryu, despite being absolutely crazy, thinks fighting a Glavenus is absolutely insane, even for her.
  • Equipment Upgrade: Penny received an upgrade from Dr. Light, making her more suitable for water and had upgraded the string on her blades where they wouldn't crush her body in a freak accident.
  • Everyone Can See It: In spite of their denials about it, everyone can see that Makoto and Kyoko have feelings for each other.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Both Cinder and Emerald don't understand why Peach and Esdeath (respectively) are nice to them even though they are enemies.
  • Evil-Detecting Baby: Just like the Faunus, that are present at the time, baby Luigi also senses that something is wrong when the "Star Spirit" was talking to the heroes from within the Cobalt star.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: The Faunus sense something amiss after the "Star Spirit" talks to them from within the Cobalt Star.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: There are several in this universe, with Dark Pit being the obvious one and retaining his origins from his original game.
    • Dark Team RWBY are darker versions of Team RWBY who were created in the same way that dark Pit was created. Although Dark Yang and Dark Blake have already been killed they still continue to torment their good versions from time to time. With Dark Ruby coming close in killing Ruby on several occasion.
    • Dark Xena can take over Xena's body at will if no one is around to calm her down. Xena is highly vulnerable when she's knocked out after an explosion had knocked her out. To make matters worse, as of chapter 13 of JINX Star Allies, she's evolving and becoming more powerful to where she can disguise herself normally as Xena to fool everyone.
  • Evil Gloating: Dark Xena goes in hard when she reveals herself to the Allies. Thanking Umber for creating the explosion that she needed in order for her to come out. After which she starts gloating to the others how the real Xena is gone and that she is now the one in control.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Princess Shroob smells like Rotten Mushrooms, even when she's disguised as Peach.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The reason why the Halloween chapter was retconned into an AU was because chapter 71 of Gaiden had Mario and Peach's conversation stating it had been nearly a year since meeting Team RWBY but it was pointed out via review that most of the stories after the Halloween special had taken place during November.
    • Although the events of the series take place within the span of over a year In-Universe, many of the adventures that the heroes have happen within a few days at best. Even the more intense ones, such as the Phazon War and the Blorb Crisis are implied to have taken place within a day or so.
  • Eye Scream: Dark Ruby had her eyes taken out by Ruby in the Lunar Sanctum.

     Tropes F to H
  • Face Fault: Sometimes the author throws this in on occasion, usually done to show the readers how ridiculous something sounds by having the characters react to what they were told by face faulting to the floor.
  • A Fate Worse Than Death: This has several times during the series to characters both good and bad:
    • The Iron Masked Marauder was taken to the Distortion World by Giratina.
    • The Toads who had their energy drained and were turned into purple husks by the Shroobs, as well as anyone that got turned into those purple husks by their energy beams. Luckily they were saved and restored back by the end of story.
    • The spirit of Elder Princess Shroob got this when Luigi sucked her up into his Poltergust and turned her into a potrait. At least King Boo has a roommate.
    • The Erdrean Monsters who have been caught by the Crimson Fang are enslaved and are forced to work for Adam or perish.
    • The Elite Trio got hit with this: First, they're stripped of their ranks and items, demoting them to just Goomp, Paraplonk, and Green Shy Guy. Then Bowser puts them at the front lines at all times, essentially turning them into cannon fodder to the Bros, RWBY and anyone else who joined them. Then they were demoted to janitors where they have to make everything spotless and clean up the whole castle. General Guy also strips Sergeant Guy of his Shy Guy mask, calling him a "disgrace" to his kind. Then the moment the demoted Trio leaves, Bowser decides to ramp up the humiliation a notch by having Paraplonk be stripped of his wings, deeming him unworthy of being a Paratroopa. According to General Guy, just having the Trio killed via being thrown into a volcano would have been too merciful.
  • Five-Man Band: The street musician unit, Sea5ons, fits this trope to a T.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: In Chapter 34 of IF, a message on the board at the Pelipper Post Office is from a Pachirisu who wishes they had their trusty hammer in Thunderwave Cave. It's a transformed Nora.
  • Flat "What":
    • Winter when she hears about Dante's plan.
Winter: Alright, genius, we got in the supply closest. So what's your brilliant suggestion this time?
Dante: We dress up as robots!
      Winter: ...What.
    • Ruby has this reaction when she gets rained on in the Wild Area, then she comes out of the tent expecting clear weather, only to see that it had snowed overnight along with it being foggy.
  • Flipping the Bird:
    • Chibi!Weiss flips off her own father on Father's Day, but he is unfazed by it since Winter did it first. So she does something else.

    • Chibi!Grif does this to Sarge. Lopez mentioned he'd do it but he couldn't find his hands after getting blown to pieces.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Both Susie and Dedede see a Comet while on Planet Frostak. Susie sees star creatures while Dedede sees a woman and a space station. Both of them think it's just their imagination, however.

    • During Gaiden chapter 79, when Weiss is preparing to fight Xion, the Boss Subtitles say No. i - Xion without the Data part included unlike in the other battles.
    • During the final chapter of 3D Land, Ruby reveals that she was able to reestablish her link with Paper Ruby and talk her down from destroying the Paper world and giving her paper counterpart a hug and she called off her Chaos Bahamut. Chapter 165 of Gaiden goes into detail about what happened.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The Shroob invasion directly results in the Vytal Festival being postponed, which, among other things, causes a major upset in Salem's plans and means that Pyrrha and Roman are Spared by the Adaptation. Furthermore, after Eggman's broadcast, Cinder's plan to destroy Beacon and Salem's existence are exposed to all of Remnant and the rest of the united worlds.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Occurs to Peach and Ruby in Chapter 20 of IF after a Boo sabotages E. Gadd's machine. Unlike most other examples, it's permanent due to if the machine malfunctions while two people are outside of it.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Yang and Tifa have this, with the two acting as sparring partners at times and having little competitions. However the two also act as support when either one needs it, with Tifa helping Yang after she lost her semblance and had her aura drained by King K Rool
  • Friendly Zombie: Rottytops is a friendly, dorky zombie.
  • From Bad to Worse: Kirby and his allies defeated Void Termina, but were knocked out by a massive explosion... and then the Shroob UFOs pay them a visit and suck them all up in tractor beams. And then there's Xena with her issues with explosions. Sure, she was knocked out from the blast, but that didn't stop her from going insane after the last time she was knocked out by an explosion. What's more, Dark Xena has evolved to where she can disguise herself as Xena to fool everyone.
  • Funny Background Event:
    • While Kylie Koopa and Scoop Swoop are chatting with the heroes, there's some funny stuff going on in the background.
    • The Baby Bros unleashed a Chomp Orb on the Shroobs and chased them around. Baby Daisy joined them a moment later while riding T-Bone. Daisy was encouraging this while Kali found it absolutely adorable. Weiss froze the ground to make some Shroobs slip. Unfortunately, Sun was caught in the crossfire.
    • A UFO was destroyed by a Judgement from Parfait's Metronome.
    • In the 119th chapter of Super RWBY Chibi, while Ruby is defending the machinery from E. Gadd, Summer is heard screaming in agony over being un-portificationized.
  • Fuzz Therapy:
    • In RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions, Xena gets a Wooper with the ability Damp which prevents explosions from going off near her and the Wooper has been helping her with her PTSD.
    • Stoutland is this for Toadsworth whenever he's having a panic attack over Peach missing or having been kidnapped.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: The fact that Spoink supposedly die if they stop bouncing is lampshaded in Chapter 112 of Gaiden complete with Mine snarking that whoever wrote that up is a liar.
  • Gender Flip: Spinni is depicted as female in The Great Cave Offensive.
  • Ghosts Abhor a Vacuum: This has occasionally happened throughout the series notably involving Luigi, the Gadd Family or in stories like JNPR's Mansion.
  • The Ghost King: King Boo and the King Boo found on Isle Delfino fall under this trope, with the main King Boo playing the role of antagonist in the series and ruling over the Boo's. While the King Boo found on Isle Delfino is the brother of the main King Boo and is a lot calmer and nicer then his evil brother, and also serves as a ruler to a group of Boo's.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: While not really an enemy to the heroes, Fawful gets absolutely destroyed by a Gigantamaxed Kingler.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: This trope gets used a lot in Chibi, with most of the villains taking part in Mario Party, Mario Kart, and being part of holiday festivities.
  • Go Through Me: Everyone at the Observatory bands together to try and stop Dark Ruby from harming Ruby any further. Unfortunately, she came prepared and sics a horde of Grimm at them.
  • Grand Finale: The 200th chapter of Chibi has the author talking about the plans for the 200th chapter, and then Mario and the gang taking part in the Olympic Games with gags and awesome moments galore. Scoop Swoop then takes a picture of the gang saying "Super RWBY Chibi!" and then the author and Ibuki get teleported to a stadium where they watch Sea5ons put on a performance as an homage to One Final Song. Ruby then thanks the readers for all the fun times they had in Chibi and Sarge announcing Super RWBY PSA. Ruby finishes up by saying "Good guys….", "…Bad guys….", "…And even those who have yet to show up in the future…" "We would like to say thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed."
  • Green Hill Zone: Throughout the series the characters find themselves in a lot of grasslands and plain areas. Though the biggest example of this would be in the first adventure in which the first area Team RWBY encounters is the Mushroom Kingdom with all of the hills and plains you would normally find.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Sarge's answer to finding Diglett at the Isle of Armor is using a sledgehammer. Said sledgehammer just so happens to be Grif...
  • Gut Punch: In RWBY, DK 64 seemed like it was going to be a fun ride. And then it was revealed Yang was trapped in a robot who was almost killed by Ruby, then it was revealed her aura was permanently depleted. Just when Yang was starting to get better in Gloomy Galleon, she gets knocked down hard by a Kremling, then gets into a fight with Kaptain K. Rool who threatens to kill her sister at point blank range if she doesn't stand down. Then just when things couldn't get any worse, K. Rool sends Yang flying back to DK Isle and the Blast-O-Matic practically disintegrates DK Isle and seemingly Yang. Ooof.
  • Halloween Episode:
    • A Red vs Blue Halloween counts as this. In this one-shot, Remnant and the Mushroom Kingdom are celebrating Halloween, and the Red vs Blue characters make their way over from their world to find the person responsible for the bad puns. It also serves as an introduction of the Red vs Blue characters into the Super RWBY Universe. (It was later retconned into being noncanon)
    • The Chibi series has a few Halloween specials, with the chapters that are released for the holiday only have skits focused on the theme of Halloween.
  • Hamster-Wheel Power: Following their capture by the Shroobs in JINX Star Allies, the Squeak Squad are forced to run on a hamster wheel to power the ship. After being set free, Daroach notes how embarrassing it was.
  • Harmless Electrocution: WBY, Pit, Zwei, Claude, MAGC and Co gets hit by a Manectric's Discharge after Zwei sniffed its butt, as all dogs typically do when greeting another dog.
  • Hated by All: Dark Ruby falls into this trope hard, while the other villains that appear have people who like them. With people like Bowser, Roman and Neo getting along with the heroes on occasion, Dark Ruby is hated by nearly everyone she comes into contact with and the only people she got along with are either dead or have left her at this point.
  • A Hell of a Time: Ibuki ends up in Hell while looking for Sonia. She not only has a blast, but manages to take down some of the demons such as the Marauder while she was down there.
  • He's Back!: Despite getting destroyed in RWBY Uprising, Hades refused to stay down and had crashed the party in the Chibi series. Then of course, he pops up in front of the heroes at the end of Super RWBY Galaxy as the universe reset had brought him back.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: In the start of Super RWBY Galaxy 2: Galactic Conquest Prime, this happens from the start when Dark Samus and Ridley take full control of the situation and even has Bowser under the control of phazon.
  • Hope Spot: After the SA-X was destroyed, everyone breathes a sigh of relief and celebrates that the nightmare is finally over. ...That is, until Adam informs them of there being ten SA-X remaining. It was enough for Blake to go into despair.
  • Hostile Show Takeover:
    • In most chapters of PSA, two of the Reds and Blues are about to introduce the PSA, and then they get blasted away by another pair, so they can teach the readers about something such as Reflet and Kamek, so they can teach the readers about how to properly do magic.
    • In Chapter 100 of Gaiden, Lisa Lavender is about to start a top story recapping the events the the entire series, but Hades interrupts and throws her out to do the recap himself.
  • Hub Level: In a way, the Smash Mansion would count as this since it holds portals to different worlds.

     Tropes I to K
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: During Ruby and Pit's makeout session in the Isle of Armor, Kubfu invokes this trope when he walks in on them kissing.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: Most of Chapter 207 of Gaiden is about everyone SAPR asks about who R3-B7 was pulling this such as Mario saying he remembered that he's got some pipes to clean out before making a break for it.
  • I Will Show You X!: At the end of chapter 22 of IF, in the main universe, after Ruby calls Samus stupid for having not thought clearly and choosing to fight Bradley directly instead of going around, Samus responds with "STUPID?!" and is then released by Anthony, Adam and Chell and Samus yells "I'll show you stupid! C'MERE!" before chasing Ruby.
  • Idiosyncratic Ship Naming: Several In-Universe examples.
    • Pit and Ruby are Rose Feathers.
    • Claude and Yang are Golden Flame.
    • Ilia and Mercedes are Blue Lizard.
    • Umber and Xena/Yagami are Lunartics.
    • Bea and Korrina are Skating Sweets.
    • Cardin and Chelsea are Nightingale.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: This happens a few times in the series. One such occurrence happens to Peach's Castle itself when under Fawful's control. To say that Bowser was outright furious is a massive understatement.
  • Inexplicably Preserved Dungeon Meat: Averted in the second chapter of Wario Land: JINX It. Mona happily eats a piece of cheese found in a treasure chest and points out to JINX that it's no different than eating Mushrooms out of ? Blocks. In the very next chapter, she's immediately met with food poisoning that caused her to be out of it for the whole chapter.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • A number of Chapters in IF still have the events of the stories and games happening.
    • Chapter 17 of IF still has Dark Yang and Dark Blake dying like they did in Uprising and Sunshine despite Dark Ruby's best efforts.
    • Bowser and Bowser Jr. still show up on Isle Delfino in Chapter 20 of IF, but they're simply on vacation due to Bowser being scared off from kidnapping Peach for good.
    • Silver claims that Atlas falling (like canon) is a fixed point in time. It can't be changed, no matter what changes he tries to make.
  • Interspecies Romance: A couple.
    • Ruby (human) and Pit (angel)
    • Ilia (faunus) and Mercedes (human)
    • Whitley (Human) and Ling (faunus)
  • Ironic Echo:
Jacques: From now on, you are to remain here... where you will never see your friends or those savages in the Mushroom Kingdom ever again.
Weiss: Savages?! The only savage here is YOU! Princess Peach is the fair princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and I will not let you talk bad about her, the Mario Bros, or the Toads!
    Jacques: Only savages get arrested.
    (...)
Jacques: Weiss... my daughter... help me.
Weiss: No... after what you did, I cannot help you. You sent the Wario Bros to kidnap me just so you could belittle me over a false accusation in Delfino. I do not want to be affiliated with you ever again... my home is Beacon Academy and the Mushroom Kingdom.
Jacques: You... you would do that... to your own father? I thought I raised my daughter better than that!
Weiss: Oh, I'm your daughter? After you called me a savage? Only savages get arrested.
  • Irony:
    • Operation: Winter Moonlight was published on Father's Day. Chibi lampshaded the hell out of this.
    • Jade Toadstool, the ancestor to Princess Peach, placed a 1 up mushroom above the casket of Dry Bowser to taunt him over his defeat. Guess what ends up happening a thousand years later?
    • Cinder mentions that Yang's fiery hair is a safety hazard and declares she'll extinguish it. What does she form in her hands? A fire sword.
  • It Has Been an Honor: General Guy says this to Kamek, right as they are about to fight an army of Bowser's brainwashed minions.
Kamek: So... have you imagined that we'd go out like this?
General Guy: I imagined myself going out in a blaze of glory. It's been an honor Kamek, lets make the most of it.
    Kamek: Agreed.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Maybe not a jerk, but Dialga trying to kill E. Gadd was pretty messed up. And while Arceus chastises him, he admits that E. Gadd's time travel machine has made a risk that Dialga was trying to stop and that could mess up time, but will allow him and the heroes to fix it.
    • Bowser lays into the Star Gate hard after it humiliated Luigi, Weiss and Jaune.
Bowser: You call yourself a benevolent door who judges people from the inside, but from what I can tell, you only judge people for their deeds and not their sense of character! YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A FRAUD!
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: In The Healing of the Soul, they went into Mementos to try and talk it out with Dark Xena.
  • Jungle Japes: Most of RWBY DK 64 is set in the jungle of DK Island. And in Super RWBY Sisters, Team RWBY finds themselves lost in the jungle after being blasted out of the water by Shy Guys. Which is also where they first meet Donkey Kong.
  • Kangaroo Court: At the start of Super RWBY Sunshine, Mario, Ruby, Weiss and Blake are put on trial for supposedly polluting Isle Delfino. But thanks to a last minute intervention from Phoenix Wright, they are spared from being send to jail and instead have to help clean up the island while also collecting the missing Shine Sprites.
  • Kick the Dog: Doopliss torments Ruby for what the Chaos Kin and Dark Ruby had done to her.
    • Dark Ruby torments Ruby every chance she gets.
    • Luigi and Jaune tend to get the short end of the stick in the Chibi series.
    • K. Rool relishes in giving Yang a hard time after it was revealed her aura was drained thanks to the croc. Luckily, Yang finally ends his wicked reign at the end.
    • Poor Neo. Roman couldn't even recognize her in Superstar Saga and despite her best efforts, he couldn't remember her at all. It even brought her to tears.
    • Chibi Yang has a hard time dealing with not being able to say any puns for a week. Hades takes advantage of this and eggs her on with puns at a rock climbing site.
    • The Star Gate grills Luigi, Weiss and Jaune hard and refuses to accept them. Everyone, including Bowser, sticks up for them.
  • Killed Offscreen: A Beanie was murdered off screen by Dark Xena. It doesn't help that Dark Xena is a sadist, nor that he was begging for mercy.

     Tropes L to N
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • When did Operation: Winter Moonlight get written and published? Father's Day. Chibi!Weiss says it best:
Weiss: You kidnapped me on FATHER'S DAY?!
    • When Morpho Knight appears, everyone questions where he came from.
    • Due to Neo's Odd Friendship with Luigi, Roman teasingly told Neo to fight her boyfriend.
    • Galacta Knight did not have the best of luck in General Shroob's UFO.
Marx: The Greatest Warrior of the Galaxy... and he's in a testing tube. Bahahaha!
      (...)
Magolor: There is someone who can stop you... and he's in this very room!
Dark Xena: What, the Greatest Star Warrior of the Galaxy? You're forgetting I'm holding him down with my ESP.
      Magolor: Oh crap...
Galacta Knight: Nnngh, this shouldn't be possible! This is not my day...
    • Ilia asks Snake how he was able to dodge Adam's sword swings easily. He mentions that half the Smash roster has swords, so he picked up on a few things.
    • Luigi lampshades himself when he picks up a Boo Mushroom.
      Luigi: ...Well, THIS is ironic.
    • Summer mentions that Maya said it was an accident after she swung a folding chair at Summer when she returned. Both she and Ruby wonder how that's even considered an accident.
  • Large Ham: Crazy Hand tends to be this, much to his brother's dismay.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • King K Rool is at the receiving end of this at the end of RWBY DK 64. After everything he put Team RWBY through and threatening to blow up them along with Dreamland and the Mushroom Kingdom, he wakes up in a darkened room in the Smash Mansion. After which he is given a massive beatdown from Bowser, King Dedede, and Taiyang Xiao Long.
    • Doopliss gets this when he takes over Ruby's body and practically pesters her for it. Tharja has none of it and unleashes a hex on him to where his transformations are severely limited. This deactivates his transformation of Zip Toad in front of everyone. Dark Pit then comes in and hauls his butt to jail.
    • Jacques has the Wario Bros kidnap Weiss, chews her out for being falsely arrested, practically condemns the Mushroom Kingdom and calls anyone who lives there savages, calls her own daughter a savage because "savages get arrested", and stiffs the Wario Bros. It all came crashing down the moment Wario starts bloating.
    • Popple gets Bowser and Roman to be his minions when they had amnesia in Superstar Saga. In Partners in Time, Bowser and Roman have their revenge on him, with Neo helping them.
    • The Iron Masked Marauder gets himself dragged down to the Distortion World after what he had done to Celebi in the movie and what he had done to Parfait.
    • Nabbit and Sableye get their just desserts when Knuckles discovers that they were responsible for stealing the Master Emerald.
    • After giving Ruby so much hell, Dark Ruby finally gets her comeuppance where Ruby unleashes her Silver Eyes, and then Summer comes in and chops off her arm and leg, then she gets blasted away in the Sonic Power Cannon for the icing on the cake. Sadly, according to Word of God, she's still alive. Doesn't take away the delicious karma that Dark Ruby received though.
    • After defecting to Fawful twice, the Elite Trio are demoted to mere grunts and are sentenced to cleaning up the entire castle. Goomp whines that it will take all day to clean the castle. Bowser agrees and order them to hop to it. And to make matters worse, Bowser orders General Guy to clip Paraplonk's wings as he's not worthy to be a Paratroopa.
    • Jacques finally gets some karma dashed onto him in prison. Like say, meeting the brother of a faunus that died in his camps for looking at him him wrongly. Not to mention his so-called legacy, Whitley, not being like him and meeting a nice faunus. And oh, the same faunus who's brother died, his cellmate who decides to not kill him, but make his life hell.
  • Late to the Tragedy: Mario in Chapter 257 of Gaiden due to venturing through the Lost Levels after Dry Bowser and his group have gone through them.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Cause most of the stories are set in the Mario world, this gets invoked when the gang finds themselves in Bowser's Kingdom. This also gets invoked when the characters visit Lethal Lava Land in Super RWBY 64.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!:
    • This gets invoked in Super RWBY World when the group has to split up the party in order for them to go through the multiple paths that they found. It makes sense seeing as most of those paths lead to Bowser's strongholds, which need to be taken out.
    • This is also invoked in Super RWBY Galaxy where everyone splits up in different teams to locate the Power Stars in each Galaxy.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Peach and Daisy act like surrogate sisters to each other.
  • Legion of Doom: Dry Bowser become forming his own evil group to assist him in his goals. His members so far are Ghirahim, Dark Ruby/Grimm Ruby, Dimentio, Medusa and Mercury Black.
  • Level in the Clouds: This trope is found in some of the stories, which include some of the stages in Super RWBY World, Rainbow Ride in Super RWBY 64, and the seventh world found in Super RWBY Sisters.
  • Loveto Hate: Several villains get a lot of love for how memorable they are and how successful they can be, and how much you love to hate them. The best example of this are Dimentio, Dark Samus, and Ridley.
  • Mad Scientist:
    • Professor E. Gadd. The old fart makes ghost paintings, vacuums that suck up ghosts,a drivable vacuum car, a water pack that can cause you to rocket high up in the air, and even built a time machine. The last part made Dialga a little miffed.
    • Despite being off his rocker, Iggy made Blasta Mechakoopas and Zappa Mechakoopas.
  • Mama Bear: Kali frightens a Chain Chomp who had previously frightened Blake in a Chibi chapter.
    • She starts to become one of the younger kids in Partners in Time.
    • Summer shows this to Fiery Dino Piranha after it knocked the crap out of Ruby.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone has this reaction when Eggman tells them that the universe will be destroyed by Bowser's Galaxy. Of course, they don't believe him until Tails confirms it.
    • Everyone's reaction is this when Hades and the villains of the past (Including the Smithy Gang!) gang up to try and take them down.
    • The Elite Trio has this moment when they taunt Kyoko Kirigiri and Aoi Asahina for outsmarting them so they could lock Bowser in the safe... until Kyoko unlocks the safe and Bowser towers before the Elite Trio.
    • The BSL Research Team has this moment when they discover the X-Parasite can mutate anyone it gets near, and they soon realize that a creature that had been mutated by the X-Parasite had drooled over Samus, infecting her with the parasite.
    • Team SPBRR has this moment when Adam reveals the X-Parasite is mimicking Samus' armor and powers, with Adam coining it as the "SA-X".
    • Ozpin, Ironwood, Esdeath, and everyone in on Remnant's secrets have this reaction when Eggman exposes everything.
    • Team WARCY has this reaction when Calyrex reveals what he has seen in a vision regarding SPBRR.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: This series has many crossovers that get bigger with each story. It started with RWBY and Super Mario Bros. Then it started adding Super Smash Bros, Red Vs, Blue, Akame Ga Kill, Touhou Project, Kingdom Hearts, etc.
  • The Maze: The group finds themselves lost in the forest area of Yoshi's Island in Super RWBY world, and some even begin to lose hope that they will find the way out, but after a while, they do manage to find their way out of the forest.
  • Meaningful Name: A lot of the heroes' and villians' Pokemon have nicknames that have a meaning to them.
  • Merged Reality: Due to the subspace incident Remnant has become merged with the Mushroom Kingdom, allowing many of the adventures in the series to happen. Due to this Remnant is now also in the same galaxy as Popstar and Gensokyo, allowing people to get there through space travel.
  • Meta Fiction: Occasionally, there have been meta jokes in the series, usually in Super RWBY Chibi.
  • Monster Town: Bowser has created a home for the monsters of Erdrea near his castle.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • Ruby defeated Salem in RWBY Chibi only to be revealed it was a dream from Zwei.
    • The 51st Chapter in Super RWBY Gaiden turned into this. Samus, injured from a fall, is stranded in a cave and she notices the Metroid counter starting to rapidly deplete. She determined a monster was strong enough to mercilessly destroy Metroids, and whatever it was, it was approaching the vulnerable Bounty Huntress fast and she was ready to go down fighting. Turns out, the monster was Kirby, much to the Space Warrior's confusion.
    • In Gaiden chapter 78, after Amber dies (due to Chrom accidentally cutting the power to Beacon with Aether), Cinder receives the full power of the Fall Maiden and indulges in an Evil Laugh...but cuts it short and floats back down calling it a hollow empty victory thanks to Eggman's actions during the Burning of Rome.
    • In Chapter 206 of Gaiden, the heroes fight the rest of the Data Organization XIII, but then when Chiaki steps up to fight Data Roxas, it turns out his data's been bugged. BB-8 is only able to barely get Chiaki out before she gets killed.
    • In Chapter 11 of Frontiers, Futaba brutally attacks the Data Shido after he kills Data Wakaba in front of her. After the fight ends thanks to Yang punching Data Shido in the jaw and sending him flying, Big the Cat shows up, gives Futaba a hug and takes her to go fishing.
  • Mugging the Monster: Kyoko Kirigiri and Aoi Asahina are first introduced in the final chapter of Crown Tundra by being accosted by a mugger in the Mushroom Kingdom. It didn't end well for him, with Kyoko blasting his knife out of his hand and Aoi pinning him to the ground until the authorities took him away.
  • Musical Episode: The 195th Super RWBY chapter becomes this when the Reds and Blues take over the author's job. What follows is sheer insanity, as to be expected by the Reds and Blues.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Cyllene, Laventon, Akari and Kira choose to abandon the Galaxy Corps due to Kamado's sheer paranoia about what's been happening ever since Ruby and the others showed up, this is Kamado's exact response.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Never the Selves Shall Meet: Subverted, as several characters are meeting their past selves in RWBY Partners in Time, but a time paradox hasn't been created so nothing bad has happened as a result.
  • Never Split the Party: In SPBRR: Fusion, Blake suggests splitting up to take care of the X-Parasites that are swarming the Atmospheric Stabilizers. Samus immediately shoots down the idea as one, she is the only one capable of harmlessly absorbing the Parasites, and two, she points out that's how Adam Malcovich's squad was wiped out. As a result, they stuck together.
  • Never Was This Universe: Madame Clarivoya appears in Chapter 17 of IF (What If Dark Ruby had a vision), claiming that she escaped before she could be sealed within a portrait, when in JNPR's Mansion, she wanted to go back into her portrait.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: A more accidental example in this case. In the first story, while swimming through the ruins of an ancient castle, Team RWBY stumbles across the remains of Dry Bowser. After leaving the castle, Bowser sends his minions there to learn more about the place. Then after his minions leave, one of them releases a 1-Up mushroom and revives the undead Koopa monarch, causing him to become one of the main villains of the series.
    • It's added further when after Emperor Bowser's death, Jade Toadstool and a few Toads placed a 1-Up mushroom just above his head to taunt him. Guess what happens a thousand years later?
    • A bit of a complicated example, but when King K. Rool was still a villain he created a device that he would use to get rid of Team RWBY and the Kongs. But he made it so powerful that it has now caused portals to other worlds to appear. One of which led to Erdrea, allowing Calasmos's influence to reach the main universe and which is beginning to cause chaos, bringing in one of the main villains of the Super RWBY series. But seeing as King K Rool has been reformed now, it falls under this trope.
    • Magolor thought it was a good idea to slice Kracko in half with his Ultra Sword to kill him. It worked... until the other half gained a second eyeball.
    • Umber had Ultra Necrozma use a powerful Z-Move on Void Termina to help out the Star Allies. Too bad it caused Dark Xena to come out afterward.
    • During chapter 78 of Gaiden, while fighting off a Beringle, Chrom ends up destroying the power generator by accident leading to the power going off around Beacon. This includes the aura transfer pod that was keeping Amber alive, due to this she ends up dying and the maiden powers end up going to Cinder, but this ends up being a hollow victory for her.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Dimentio thought it was a good idea to corrupt Ruby with Phazon and turned her against her friends. However, as he got rid of the nasty side effects the Phazon comes with, he accidentally gets rid of the corruptive part. In turn, Ruby came back to her senses and is now really powerful with Phazon at her disposal.
    • Raven and Yang didn't really get along, but the latter tried to make an effort to make up with her mother. Ridley comes in and proceeds to beat the living crap out of Yang and almost kills her. However, Raven steps in at the last second and takes the full brunt of the attack. She mentions that she still loves Yang and proceeds to fight Ridley, but due to being badly injured by sacrificing herself for Yang, she's overwhelmed by Ridley. The Space Pirate mocks Yang and goes for the kill... however, due to Raven admitting that she still cares for her and giving Yang the final push that she needed, the Blonde Bombshell unlocks her Shin Form and kicks Ridley's ass hard. Raven and Yang finally make up in the end too!
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Dark Pit gets one from Ruby, Yang and Byleth in Chapter 22 of IF in retribution for his alternate version killing Oran in Chapter 21 of IF, "What If Summer never came back?"
  • Non-Indicative Name: Chapter 23 of IF is called What If… Samus fought Narrator Hades? Said fight lasts for one section before Kai interrupts the fight by restraining everyone with dark tentacles due to the fight taking place in the Sabrinaverse.

     Tropes O to Q
  • Ocular Gushers: Every so often, some characters tend to have waterfalls falling through their face. Usually not used in a serious, heart-wrenching moment.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • The friendship between Luigi, Marnie, and Neo can definitely be seen as this. Seeing as Luigi and Neo are usually fighting on opposite sides of any conflict they are in, and Marnie only recently joined the universe with her friends. This is lampshaded at the end of RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions with both Luigi and Neo joking that despite their friendship they won't hold back in their next fight.
    • Following Super RWBY Galaxy, Rosalina, a reserved and calm woman who guards the Lumas like a mother, is close friends with Ibuki, a wild rockstar.
    • Bowser's Inside Story has the friendship between Bowser, a Laughably Evil Large Ham villain who tends to think with his fists over his head, and Kyoko, a stoic Great Detective who is extremely smart and logical.
  • Official Couple: Pit and Ruby have officially become a couple as of the ending to RWBY Uprising
    • Yang and Claude have become a couple as of the ending to RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions.
    • It's revealed at the end of Partners in Time that Byleth is in a relationship with Dorothea. It was teased in a Chibi skit.
    • At the end of Partners in Time, Blake hooks Ilia up with Mercedes. At the end of Isle of Armor, we see them cuddling with each other, officially a couple as we see the latter planting a kiss on Ilia's cheek.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome:
    • During Ruby's training to get Kubfu stronger, her Bulbasaur evolved into Ivysaur while Yang's Pignite and Fletchling evolved while in the dens.
    • When Penny and Futaba are talking via text message in Rise of the Mammalians, Penny says when the unnatural blue goo showed up, she took a sample of it and discovered it was Phazon. She was about to do some experiments on how to cure it, when the Miracle Cure showed up and destroyed it...right as Penny was about to uncover a breakthrough.
  • Oh, Crap!: A Hammer Bro has this moment when Daisy makes her entrance in Super RWBY 64.
    • Even Bowser has this moment when he learns Daisy had arrived.
    • Bowser has another moment when he learns Daisy got accepted into Smash Bros.
    • Waluigi when he sees a Blue Shell coming right for him as he's racing toward the Smash Mansion with the Invitation in hand.
    • Ridley when he sees there is now two Samus's present.
    • Rab when his smutty magazine falls out of his robe.
    • Ruby gets a few of these in the first chapter of Isle of Armor.
      • First she pales up at Yang charging at her, and then the next, we see what went on during her fight with Zeraora. Her scroll got loose and was destroyed by Zeraora's Plasma Fists.
    • Roman says this when he realizes what Nora is gonna do while holding a Chaos Emerald in her hands.
    • How everyone on Team SPBRR reacts when Adam reveals the existence of the SA-X.
  • Ominous Message from the Future: Calyrex receives one where he sees the forces of Salem, Dry Bowser, and Calasmos clashing with each other with Remnant and the other worlds caught in the crossfire.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Dark Ruby being on the receiving end of an atomic wedgie from Hiyoko in her battle against Ruby.
  • One-Steve Limit: Jade. Are we talking about the Dragon Quest character or the granddaughter of Professor E. Gadd and the leader of Team JINX or Jade Toadstool the ancestor to Princess Peach.
    • This actually gets lampshaded in a skit in chapter 118 of Super RWBY Chibi.
  • One-Winged Angel: Bowser's Giga Form when given a Smash Ball by Roman. Taking everything the heroes have to take him out and only being defeated after becoming tired. Note that the heroes were also too tired afterward.
  • Or Was It a Dream?: Ruby had a dream over Galacta Knight impaling Penny while saving her. Little did she know...
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Every once in a while in the series, a dragon will show up and either challenge or help the heroes, like the Dragon Quest dragons who occasionally get in their way, the Seregios who gave some of the heroes trouble in Galaxy, or the Azure Rathalos who helps the heroes, and is also a pet for Weiss.
    • There's also the fact that some dragons from Fire Emblem also help out the heroes on occasion, or even hang out with them. Kamui, Nowi, Tiki, or even the Wyverns that Camilla and Minerva ride on.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: The ghosts in the series — Summer and the Fairy Tail characters — can touch and interact with things such as Mavis getting a bite to eat at Beacon Academy's cafeteria in Chapter 157 of Gaiden and Summer being able to hold Ruby. Unfortunately, they can also feel pain as shown when Summer accidentally wound up in Maya's office after coming back (due to Dark Ruby) and a scared Maya swung a folding chair at summer and Wendy getting motion sickness in Chapter 5 of Wings of Ruin.
  • Papa Wolf: Upon their introductions both Tai and Ghira have become this. With Tai going so far as to kill Pit for an earlier incident, don't worry he got better, and Ghira giving Sun a hard time due to some unfortunate phrasing.
    • This is expanded upon even further in the ending to RWBY DK 64 in which Tai teams up with Bowser and King Dedede to beat up King K Rool for everything he put Yang, Ruby, and the rest of their team for during the adventure.
  • Pokémon Speak: Most of the Pokémon, with the exception of most of the Legendary and Mythical Pokémon speak this way like in Pokémon: The Series. In Hisuian Legend, Rodin's Iron Bundle says "Delibird" rather than "Iron Bundle" to communicate and likewise, Flutter Mane says "Misdreavus" to communicate instead of "Flutter Mane".
  • While Viola was always a psychopath deep down, chances are she wouldn't have gotten so bad if Elvis Gadd had worked the courage to explain WHY she couldn't be allowed in a party to determine the best scientist. Which causes Viola to go out in the world, find the Grand Ztar, and cause many problems for the sake of healing her hurt pride and revenge.
  • The Power of Friendship: Gets used by Kirby in JINX Star Allies by tossing friend hearts to free his friends and enemies from the control of the Jamba Hearts.
    • Gets parodied in Super RWBY Chibi chapter 105 in which Kirby uses the same method to take out Void Termina.
  • Promoted to Playable: At the end of Galaxy 2, both Lyn and Waluigi go from assist trophies to actual fighters.
  • Pungeon Master: Yang, much to the annoyance of most of the cast, takes every opportunity she gets to make puns.
    • Claude is this to a similar extreme as Yang, and now that the two are dating the puns come flying at every opportunity they get.
    • Occasionally Yang will get harmed due to her puns from individuals like Gloria, for example.
  • Put on a Bus: After their introduction in Super RWBY Sunshine, Neptune, Sun, Tai, and Qrow weren't seen in the main series for a very long time. Sure they appeared from time to time in chibi, but they weren't seen in the main series again until a later time
  • Portal Door: This is how Team RWBY gets summoned to Skyworld at the start of RWBY Uprising, with a door appearing in their dorm room.
  • Power-Up: The characters tend to get these a lot throughout the series, examples include the Cape feather in Super RWBY World, the Frog Suit for underwater traversal in Super RWBY Sisters, and the Metal Cap in Super RWBY 64, which leads to Pyrrha's semblance going out of control.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Velvet's Illumina Vacation has Velvet going through each location from New Pokémon Snap once unlike in the game which requires the player to go through each course multiple times to get all the photo opportunities.
  • Purple Is Powerful: In Patent Pending, Myra uses a Purple Spiny Shell to destroy Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Cranky Kong's mecha.

     Tropes R to T
  • Raised Hand of Survival:
    • This happens back in the first story, after team RWBY leaves the sunken castle Bowser's minions are sent to investigate the place. One of them hits a floating block, which releases a 1-up mushroom and goes over to the grave of Dry Bowser. After everyone has left the castle Dry Bowser punches one fist through the lid of the casket, indicating that he is once again amongst the living.
    • This happens in RWBY: DK 64 as well. Yang, along with DK Isle, had been blasted to kingdom come with a powerful souped-up Blast-O-Matic and everyone, K. Rool included, believes she didn't survive. However, as K. Rool is sending everyone to the dungeons, Yang's arm shoots out of the rubble, indicating that she survived. And she's out for blood.
  • The Reveal: Chapter 23 of IF reveals that Narrator Hades is in fact the Hades from the Sabrinaverse.
  • Record Needle Scratch: Every once in a while, the author likes to put this in, especially when a reaction similar to a "Wait what!" is needed for a situation.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Dark Ruby's eyes were replaced by eyes from a Grimm thanks to Hades.
  • Retcon:
    • The 13th chapter of Super RWBY Gaiden shows off Ironwood going off the deep end. The 14th chapter, dubbed 13.5, retcons this after the author listened to the reader's complaints about what happened in the chapter.
    • Chapter 72 of Gaiden retcons the Halloween story of how the Reds and Blues got to Remnant as well as the start of Super RWBY World showing how the Reds and Blues found out about Yang making the bad puns and ends with a new version of the start of Super RWBY World which ends with Yang shooting Church due to wanting to kill her for making bad puns.
  • Ret-Gone: In Chapter 10 of IF, when Reaper Rose destroys someone's soul, she's the only person who remembers that person as shown with Dark Pit, Dark Weiss and Dark Ruby.
  • Robo Speak: Dante and Aerith spoke robot to fool the Shroobs.
  • Robot Me: Dr. Eggman makes a robotic double of RWBY with all of RWBY'S semblance powers alongside Wisps making her a formidable foe. In Winter's Dusk, Eggman secretly develops robot copies of certain characters he's kidnapped to keep an eye on the heroes or attack them. Thankfully, either they act out of character or are revealed and dealt with.
  • Rocket Jump:
    • Sonia Nevermind does this when Jabberwock Island got invaded by the Shroobs.
    • General Guy did this in RWBY Chibi Chapter 108 as several Shy Guys get blown up from this.
    • Even Sarge does this in the same chapter, with Simmons getting knocked out, Grif getting his feet blasted off of him, and Lopez getting blown to pieces.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: This is invoked in the second chapter of Isle of Armor when Klara and Avery do this to determine who fights Gloria. Avery wins.
Klara: ...Best two out of three?
    Avery: No.
    Klara: Aww...
  • Rogues' Gallery Transplant: Due to the nature of the series, with Team RWBY and friends joining the Mario Bros on their adventures, any villains that the Bros face automatically become villains for Team RWBY to fight. Examples of this include Bowser, Hades, Cackletta, and the Shroobs just to name a few.
    • In RWBY DK 64 King K Rool becomes this for Yang as well as the Kongs
    • On a somewhat different note The Meta becomes this for Pyrrha due to her resemblance to Agent Carolina.
  • Role Swap AU: Chapter 28 of IF is a universe where Yang is a half genie guardian, while Shantae grows up as Summer's daughter.
  • Roll-and-Move: Averted in JINXY: Micro Party when JINX sees a Wiggler tied up by vines by a Piranha Plant and they jump down to help it when four Dice Blocks pop up above them, prompting Xena to telekinetically toss them to the side. The Dice Blocks never appear again for the rest of the story at any of the other locations.
Nyx: (deadpan) What on... are we seriously Mario Party-ing this?
Xena: Well, we'll tell you what we won't be doing. (telekinetically grabs the blocks and tosses them to the side) That!
  • A Rotten Time to Revert: Invoked by Tharja, who places a hex on Doopliss that, while allowing him to still shapeshift, ensures that the transformation ends or glitches out at the worst possible times for him.
  • Running Gag: This series is known for having several running gags.
    • Whenever Yang makes a bad pun, be sure to expect one of the Red vs Blue characters to exclaim the following infamous line "God damn it, Barb!" Also sometimes Yang gets attacked by some of the heroes as a result.
    • Gloria tends to hit Yang whenever she makes a bad pun. Even Neo gets involved.
    • Weiss, especially in the earlier stories, questions the logic of the various worlds they visit and pouts after being told not to question it. She stops doing it in Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions when she sees Cetacea.
    • Blake's fear of dogs whenever she encounters one. She later gets over fear during Super RWBY: Gaiden
    • And then there is Super RWBY Chibi, which also has several running gags. Examples include:
      • Kirby eats all the food whenever he takes part in a Mario Party mini-game.
      • Comedic mishaps occur during the final battles of the original stories, completely changing the outcome.
      • Bowser acting as president of Nintendo of America.
    • Ozpin's window ends up getting destroyed every once in a while, much to his chagrin. It later escalates into being unable to get the window to stay up at all, as even when Elsa and Futaba try to use their powers to reinforce it in Gaiden Chapter 249, the window and ice melt causing poor Elsa to have an existential crisis for a bit and Olaf calms her down by shoving snow in her face. Anna lampshades this by saying "...Dude, that place is cursed. There's no way a window can just keep breaking just like that."
    • In Paper RWBY, Jr. Troopa never getting to fight such as in his first encounter with Mario and the gang where Chrom gets annoyed by Jr. Troopa's demands to fight and backhands the young Koopa into a tree and the last encounter where Jr. Troopa gets into an argument with the Koopa Bros over who gets to fight Mario and his friends all culminating in a Big Ball of Violence that ends with Ryoma slashing through all of them, knocking out the Koopa Bros. while Jr. Troopa swears revenge and runs off.
    • People questioning how Maya accidentally swung a folding chair at Summer after the latter came back of her own volition due to Dark Ruby making Ruby's life a living hell.
    • The ghosts (Summer and the Fairy Tail crew) doing things like getting hurt or eating or in Wendy's case getting motion sick in Wings of Ruin and people pointing out that they're ghosts and shouldn't be affected by those things.
    • In Great Cave Offensive, Ibuki reading the story on her phone on the Comet Observatory and everyone else wondering what the heck she's talking about.
    • In Promised Day, people beating up Greed followed by someone else saying that Greed's a good guy.
    • In Forbidden Land, Chiaki's imagination tends to kick into overdrive whenever Kirby's copy abilities get upgraded.
  • In Hisuian Legend:
    • People figuring out that the heroes are from the future except for Kamado.
    • When an ancestor of a character gets hurt, the story cuts to the present day where their descendants suddenly feel it as well such as Rowan getting abrupt back pains after Kamado is thrown into a desk by Nora and Candice and Bertha getting electrocuted after Nora has her Flaaffy zap Charm, Clover and Coin. It's not very funny when Mars starts fading away thanks to Arezu getting shot and killed resulting in Arceus transporting her, Jupiter and Saturn back in time to before Arezu was shot so they can save her.
  • Sadistic Choice: Marnie has one of these. She's grown an attachment to the Koopa Troop when Neo asked her to give it a chance when Bowser conscripted her into his army out of gratitude for saving him from the Shroob's capture. However, she's a bit stressed out over the whole ordeal. She wants to help out the Koopa Troop, but if she does, she fears that her friends will brand her as a traitor and will beat the crap out of her. If she leaves, she'd be breaking her best friend's heart, which she mentioned she made a commitment to stay.
  • The Scream: Yang unleashes this when she finds out that Ruby has gone missing following her beating at the hand of Ruby's dark counterpart the previous day.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • This is basically the reaction of Yoshi of the past when he sees Baby Mario again, which leads to him and the other Yoshis getting captured by Yoob.
    • In 3D Land, Gloria and Tifa zip off after seeing Laxus easily beat Yang in a single punch to the head. Later on, in Chapter 5, Klepto the Condor turns around and flies the other way after getting an eyeful of Summer's Death Glare.
    • In Hisuian Legend, Sabi's Electivire turns around and walks off after seeing Cynthia's Mega Garchomp.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Dry Bowser is this, having been sealed in an underwater tomb by the ancestor to Princess Peach a thousand years before the events of the series. But he gets released by accident a thousand years later by Bowser's Investigation Team when they enter his underwater castle after RWBY left.
  • Self-Deprecation: In Chapter 195, when Cable and Deadpool arrive in the Sabrinaverse to check to see if they need to close off any rifts from Apocalypse, Cable refers to The Malevolent Seven (which Apocalypse from X-Men: Apocalypse was a part of) as a "rag-tag group of misfits" as the author doesn't think too highly about his "New Age of Darkness" and "Dawn of Chaos" stories due to how messy they got, though that hasn't stopped the characters from appearing in this story and other stories.
  • The Multiverse: Super RWBY Sisters and its multiverse has been expanded to be part of a wider multiverse consisting of the author's other fanfic series: Touhou Galaxy, Sora's Adventures, and Sabrinaverse.
  • Shifting Sand Land: There have been plenty of desert levels found in this series, including the trope namer, Teehee Valley and Drybake desert in the first story.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: There have been plenty of times in which the characters find themselves in an ice-themed level, these include Joke's End, Snowman's Land, and Sherbert Land back in the first story.
  • Slow "NO!": When Mimi hears that Ruby can slow down time, she invokes this as time slows down for everyone while Ruby unlocks the door.
  • Sneeze Cut: The author really likes using this for comedic purposes in most of the recent stories, this is especially done when characters talk about another character who isn't with them. Mostly done to compare a situation to that character. It then cuts to the character in question sneezing and wondering if someone is talking about them.
  • Space Battle: Chapter 33 of Super RWBY Galaxy 2: Galactic Conquest Prime starts off with an epic space battle.
  • Space Zone: The final part of Super RWBY World takes place in the special stages from Super Mario World, which all take place in space invoking the trope.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Dino Piranha, instead of being killed off, is saved by Viridi.
    • At the end of RWBY Partners in Time, the remaining Shroobs are spared and given a place to live in the Mushroom Kingdom.
    • Thanks to the events of Partners in Time, the Vytal Festival is canceled, meaning that Pyhrra is not killed.
    • Going off the above, Roman is also still alive since the events that lead to his death never happened.
  • Spell My Name with a "The": In The Great Cave Offensive, Chameleo Arm is referred to as The Chameleo Arm.
  • Spit Take: Samus does this when she sees her past self.
  • Split-Personality Merge: This happens at the end of The Healing of the Soul when Xena and Dark Xena end up making peace with each other. Dark Xena becomes a part of Xena, getting rid of the fear that exists within Xena of having her dark half appear due to an explosion. Though Dark Xena still exists as a spirit within Xena's mind and can still talk to Xena.
  • Spotting the Thread: In Chapter 264 of Gaiden, Nyx is able to identify Viola's story as a lie as Viola says that she met Ash Ketchum of the Sooty Plains...even though Ash is an anime protagonist in the Pokémon world prompting Viola to ask "...What the fuck is a Pokémon?"
  • The Starscream: In Chapter 17 of IF, Dark Yang decides to name herself leader of the Dark Team RWBY saying that "[Dark Ruby]'s been acting weird for a long time… she's no longer fit to becoming leader. As of today, I am!" This doesn't last very long before she's killed by Yang flinging Dark Yang into the Rewind Spring after the latter says she's going to burn Yang's hair off.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Eggman, after being beaten and addressing Kyoko, claims that the best way to beat Salem is to hide all Relics on different worlds to tire her out or simply trap her forever. Kyoko, while considering it, feels that such solutions may or may not work.
  • The Stinger: Most of the stories written by the author have an extra scene at the end of the story teasing the next story.
    • Super RWBY Sisters stinger has Team RWBY returning to their dorm after their adventure, only for a door to appear in their room to the Kid Icarus world.
    • RWBY Uprising has two stingers First Bowser makes plans on going to dinosaur land, the second is the Red vs Blue characters creating a teleported to get to Remnant

  • Stuff Blowing Up: Arceus was telling the story of Dry Bowser to Sienna and Ironwood while Dialga was busy exploding Shroobs left and right in Chibi. The three didn't seem totally fazed by it.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Donkey Kong does this in Chapter 210 of Gaiden, telling Dimentio that DK and Diddy can talk, they just make monkey noises to mess with their friends.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: Chapter 27 of IF, ending the saga where Chiaki is sent to Hyrule, ends with Chiaki having defeated the Despair Sisters, saved all her friends and bringing them back to Hyrule with her. Happy ending right? Chiaki, after realizing the power of the Triforce can be used to wish away evil, is promptly corrupted by the power she now has and starts plotting to use it to get rid of any negative influences.
  • Suddenly Shouting: General Guy rips into Luigi after he gets cold feet after Mario contracts Bean Fever.
  • Summon Magic: Aerith has a Summoning Materia on her, and can summon a Chocobo and a Moogle.
  • Super Gullible: Kyle in Wings of Ruin as he wholeheartedly swallows Adam's Blatant Lies about the heroes being a cult. Needless to say, Zinnia and Tsukomi believe he's an idiot.
  • Sweatdrop: The author really likes using this a lot.
  • Take That!: The series is known for having several moments of this trope towards things the people writing the series don't like. Examples of this include:
    • In Super RWBY 64, Chapter 8 Nyx and Simmons are in the library of Big Boo's Haunt and stumble upon the Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey series and proceed to shoot the books to pieces because of how awful they are.
    • Nyx and Iris complain about live-action movie remakes about how they're running out of ideas and only caring about money and nostalgia. Nyx even goes out to say that she's not looking forward to the Samurai Shodown Live-Action Remake.
    • Morpho Knight's brief appearance. The author doesn't like him one bit, as some characters wonder where he even came from and his Boss Subtitle is even called Reborn Butterfly That Literally Came Out of Nowhere - Morpho Knight. Then, he reappears in Chapter 143 of Gaiden where he reveals that he's the concept of death and can't be killed. In Forgotten Land, Morpho Knight reappears and gains a new subtitle: Fluttering Dream Eater - Morpho Knight
    • When Lisa Lavender reports on the story regarding the Blorbs, we see a small snippet of people gathering as much toilet paper as they could. This serves as a Take That! from when people started raiding toilet paper during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
    • When Bowser Jr and his group return to Bowser's castle they notice that the castle is gone, some of the characters note that the crater could have been made with CGI effects. After which the characters note that making a CGI crater would be as bad of an idea as making a movie with CGI lions.
    • Super RWBY Gaiden's Chapter 61 takes a few potshots at Other M, especially with the Varia Suit situation.
    • In SPBRR Fusion's Chapter 6, Samus gets the Varia Suit. However, she doesn't realize how hideous it looks until Blake takes a picture of her and Samus gets a good look at it. Her response? She's pretty much disgusted.
    • Chapter 186 of Chibi takes a pot shot at MOBAs as Mario and Sonic call them "trainwrecks" and say to not expect good sportsmanship because none of them know the definition of the word and will throttle each other alive because the players will not admit when it's their own fault.
    • In Chapter 104 of Gaiden, Reflet burns the scrapbook from Paper Mario: Sticker Star arguing it's not stickers who define who the heroes are, it's who they define they are. In addition, it's confirmed that Mario, the gang, and Bowser haven't heard of the Sticker Fest before with Bowser admitting that he only showed up because he felt like crashing. Then at the end, Rosalina uses a launch star to send the Sticker Star and Kersti into space saying it's about time they did away with the nonsense before high-fiving Reflet and doing the Star Festival.
    • Chapter 29 of Galactic Conquest Prime takes a shot at all of Disney's live-action remakes, with Mulan (2020) in particular being called out for getting rid of just about everything that made the original great.
    • Chapter 130 of Gaiden features a take that towards the Everyone is Dead story arc that was going on for nearly a year by the point of that chapter being written.
    • Chapter 172 of Gaiden takes a shot at Battle League, noting that the armor is controversial, the Hyper Strikes aren't as powerful as Mega Strikes and that test audiences didn't like it, saying that it's only for beginners and those that don't play soccer often.
    • Micro Party takes a shot at how unbalanced the Stone Statue (buy stars for 20 coins each and find something to get them to five coins) and Pinball Machine (watch out for the Zero Flame) are.
    • In Chapter 214 of Gaiden, after Yukari creates digital clones of Ralph, Vanellope, Felix and Calhoun, Yukari puts some boundaries on Vanellope's clone and says "Just so she won't get any funny ideas about leaving to some place like the internet."
    • Chapter 42 of IF was made in response to Warner Bros. Discovery shutting down Rooster Teeth, with Junya Kaneshiro standing in for WBD CEO David Zaslav, as well as multiple jabs towards the latter’s actions to the studio. Mickey Mouse being the new CEO of Warner Bros. at the end may also be a jab towards Disney’s constant acquisitions.
  • Taking You with Me: Fawful and Cackletta's last ditch effort to kill the heroes. Ironically, it helped them get out of Bowser's body.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Pit in the main series has been killed twice for the same incident, then in Chibi, he got killed a third time for that same incident. Pit and Jaune tend to die quite a lot in the chibi skits due to their butt monkey status and the universe just having it out for them.
  • Team Pet: Several, Zwei is this for Team RWBY.
    • Weiss gains and adopts an orphaned Azure Rathalos nicknamed Azure.
    • Booniper, a Boo, is this for Team JNPR once they adopted him.
    • Black Yoshi, a pet for Team JINX after it hatched during the events of Super RWBY World.
    • Team RWBY, JNPR, JINX, and several other characters also get several Pokemon as well during the series.
  • Tempting Fate: This has happened several times throughout the series. For example, Jaune and Nora believed Weiss is safe and not in any danger, only for Adam and Seryu to prove them wrong.
    • In Wings of Ruin, when Willow arrives, Adam cockily says "Well, if it isn't the mother. You came right into the slaughter!" only for Willow to say that she begs to differ and Whitley, Klein and Kirumi arrive, Adam has the nerve to say "The whole family is here… you made it too easy!" only for their beasts to beat him up and force him to retreat like a coward.
  • That's All, Folks!: Chapter 42 of IF ends with Porky Pig turning towards a camera and delivering this line much to Hades's frustration as he wanted to say it.
  • That Poor Cat: An unfortunate cat was unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of a roulette wheel and land on it after Wario received Play Money as a treasure, much to his anger.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: Super RWBY Chibi's Chapter 127 counts as this.
  • The Boxing Episode: Chapter 199 of Super RWBY Gaiden shows off a boxing match between Makoto Nijima and Junko Enoshima.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill:
    • In an alternate scene in RWBY Chibi, the Junior Shrooboid gets himself thrown into Subspace, turned into a trophy by Tabuu, and to top it all off, once Tabuu was destroyed, the trophified Shroob falls into the ocean where it gets eaten by a Maw-Ray. Poor guy.
    • It's one thing to fire a laser at DK Isle. It's another to shove a SMASH BALL in the generator to have it completely charged up. If it wasn't for Cranky Kong, Yang would've been dusted.
    • Samus drops a Power Bomb at the same time as her younger self. Both of them think it's a bit overboard as the Schnee Sisters use an ice shield to block the firestorm that happens.
    • Everyone used their own attacks to help Kirby deal the final blow on Void Termina. Poor Void didn't stand a chance. To make matters worse, Umber had Ultra Necrozma use its Z-Move at the same time as Kirby and his allies firing a huge laser to destroy the poor bastard.
    • Blue Toad tests the durability of the new Schnee home by throwing cannonballs, Bullet Bills, Banzai Bills, and even a Thwomp. He even gets Bowser involved!
    • After getting frustrated by Sling Pod Galaxy Palutena uses her Palutena Glam Blaster to destroy the entire galaxy, with there being nothing left behind after the laser was finished firing.
  • This Is Gonna Suck:
    • How the Wario Bros and Nyx feel when they're forced to work with each other.
    • While RWY and Summer are discussing the X-Parasite, Summer quickly realizes that due to the nature of the X-Parasite, there could be more than just one SA-X roaming around the BSL station and mentions SPBRR are in grave danger. Weiss says it best:
      Weiss: Ooooh... hell.
    • When Sea5ons winds up in the lair with the Black Diablos and White Monoblos, most of the crew think it's going to be simple. However, Cardin tells them that Black Diablos tend to be in heat constantly. It dawns on everyone what this means.
Whitley: So, wait, does that mean...
Cardin: Yuuuuup, we just potentially dropped in on their date. ...Or their honeymoon.
Chelsea: (grimacing) Aheheh, you two make such a lovely couple, so how about we pretend we never saw each other and we go about our merry way? (The creatures roar in response) ...I was afraid of that.
    • SPBRR has this reaction when they realize that their next mission has to do with the possible return of the X-Parasites.
  • This Just In!: Whenever something big happens in the series be sure to expect there to be a cut to a news report talking about the event. Examples of this could be explosions that occur as a result of villains being defeated, the effects of Calasmos's influence spreading through the world, and most famously the arrests made at Isle Delfino at the start of Super RWBY Sunshine.
  • Throne Room Throwdown: Some of the final battles in the series take place in a throne room, examples of this include the fight in the throne room of the Shadow Queen in Paper RWBY The Thousand-Year Door and the first half of the fight against Bowletta in RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone:
    • After their defeat, Kirby throws a Friendship Heart at Dark Meta Knight and Marx though Meta Knight questions Kirby on the former. Even Whispy Woods gets some love.
    • After many requests and on the brink of giving up, Daisy gets into Smash Bros, much to her emotional delight. Bowser, on the other hand, dreads the thought.
    • Bowser finally gives the Smash Invitation to his son after he proves himself in Delfino.
    • It took a while for her, but Yang finally settled her differences with Neo after she was having a difficult time in the Beanbean Kingdom. Neo responded by giving Yang a hug, much to Yang's surprise.
    • Arceus does this by saving E. Gadd from a rampaging Dialga.
    • In the PSAs, the Reds and Blues aren't ejected from Chapters 5 (Ozpin takes the readers on a behind the scenes tour of the fic and suggests Tucker and Church get something to eat), 10 (Tex is the host of the deleted scenes and gets rid of anybody trying to eject her, except for Umber), 12 (Carolina thinks that the medical issues are something that she and Simmons are unqualified for, so she leaves and drags Tucker off and brings in Mikan instead), 14 (Reviewing Etiquette and in fact, it was Sarge's idea), 15 (Washington and Carolina aren't up for the Christmas traditions, so Lakitu goes to ask around the kingdoms for their Christmas traditions), 17 (the characters actually asked the Reds and Blues) and 19 (Epsilon finds out about poor Futaba being bullied off of Tweester because she politely asked someone to remove the AI copy of her voice they made without permission and he brings in O'Malley and Tex joins in after O'Malley reveals what they're doing).
  • Time Master: The legendary Pokémon Dialga is this, and he is not happy when people either travel through time or if they were to mess with it.
  • Time Skip: There have been several of these throughout the series, usually to tell how much time has passed between stories.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Adam is sliced in half by his former, abused Glavenus's tail, right as Adam is shot by his own Dark Cannon, courtesy of Mine.
  • Too Dumb to Live: A Shroob pointed his ray gun at himself and wondered why it wasn't working before accidentally shooting himself.
    • It makes sense considering Swoops can somehow jam Shroob technology, according to an entry in Bowser Jr's Journey in the Bowser's Inside Story remake.
    • This is Dimentio in a nutshell after he makes the jump to the main universe. For instance, his attempt at infecting Ruby with Phazon to turn her into Chaos Ruby while getting rid of the negative side effects leads to an in-control Chaos Ruby kicking his butt. It's a wonder he's still alive.
    • The Galactic Federation decides to invade Pop Star at the end of Chapter 13 of Dread, automatically qualifying them for this.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: This applies to King K. Rool as a result of his actions in RWBY: DK 64. He does all kinds of selfish actions to the heroes of that story, especially Yang out of revenge for his defeat back in Super RWBY Sisters.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: This happens every so often in the stories when a character or enemy is shot into the sky, it either happens after a battle or in chibi it is used for comedic purposes.
  • Twitchy Eye: Lisa Lavender gets one of these at the end of Winter's Dusk when she and Steven watch Viridi, Phosphora, Velvet and her Shaymin and Suicine turn the remains of Argus into a nature reserve.

     Tropes U to Z
  • Underestimating Badassery: Bowser underestimates RWBY the first time they meet. He hasn't made the same mistake since.
    • No one knew how bad of a time Galacta Knight was going to give them. Especially Penny
    • Ironwood, Winter, and Sienna got their butts kicked by Bowser. Not even the White Fang or Atlas Military stood a chance against Bowser.
    • In a sense, after getting severely beaten up by R3-B7, Team RWBY underestimated Eggman. And they haven't even fought him yet!
  • Under the Sea: This trope doesn't get invoked as often as the other level tropes, but it did make an appearance in the first story as the third world Team RWBY visits. Though they do need power-ups in order to breathe underwater.
  • Underwater Ruins: Team RWBY stumbles upon an ancient castle when they reach the end of the water area in Super RWBY Sister. The castle once belonged to Dry Bowser, who gets revived after Team RWBY Leaves.
  • Undignified Death: Poor Shake King... he got himself blown up by none other than Wario. The explosion was a bit... smelly.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: While Ozpin does have good intentions, his lack of knowledge of mental instability and having Xena go out in the world with actual danger makes her become more unstable. As Mewtwo puts it, despite his noble goals he's pushing her over the edge without realizing it.
  • Vacation Episode: RWBY and the Seven Sirens counts as this.
  • Video Arcade: During chapter 12 of RWBY: Super Star Saga plus Bowser's minions the group visits the arcades of little fungi town and spends some time playing on the arcade cabinets. That is until the fun gets halted by Mario eating the wrong type of mushroom.
  • Villain Protagonist: Dry Bowser and his gang are the main characters of the Lost Levels.
  • Villains Out Shopping:
    • Bowser and his Koopa Troop get up to this whenever not interacting with Mario and the gang.
    • In Chapter 20 of IF, Bowser and Bowser Jr. are revealed to be vacationing at Isle Delfino.
  • Villainous Friendship: Bowser with both Roman and Neo. The three do take shots at one another, but ultimately all of them are friends with Bowser even having his army call Roman Lord Roman and Neo being friendly with the Koopalings. If anything, Roman and Neo are more loyal to Bowser than they are to Cinder, which Roman himself later confirms in a chapter of Chibi. By the Burning of Rome, they defect from her in favor of following him officially.
  • Villainous BSoD: Neo suffers from this during the events of RWBY Superstar Saga Plus Bowser's Minions, as her partner in crime Roman Torchwick has lost his memories and doesn't recognize her. Leading her to temporarily team up with the heroes until the end of the adventure.
  • Voice-Only Cameo: In-universe example. At the SPBRR Fusion, when Ibuki is looking for Rosalina in the hospital, she gets help from Mikan, who goes unseen.
  • Warrior Therapist: As of the ending to RWBY DK 64 Byleth has become this for both Ruby and Xena. Mewtwo is also becoming this for Xena.
  • We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties: Usually happens in PSA when shenanigans happen and Lakitu is caught in the crossfire, damaging his camera in the process.
  • Wham Episode:
    • In RWBY Chibi, in Chapter 87 Roman gets his own spot in Smash Bros and a Final Smash Move, defeating Ruby for the first time. Needless to say, readers love his Smash move.
    • Chapter 8 of RWBY DK 64 is a wham episode with the heroes managing to find Yang, unfortunately, she has been captured and made robotic. After freeing her from that state it is revealed that she has been completely drained of her aura and her weapons are nowhere to be found.
    • Chapter 12 of JINX Star Allies is this. Just when the dust settled after Void Termina had been destroyed, the Shroobs come in and kidnap them all.
    • Chapter 2 of Super RWBY Gaiden shows us that Adam isn't just out for blood, he's out to make a statement.
    • The final scene of Chapter 75 of Gaiden has Futaba and the Phantom Thieves discover Cinder's plans for the Fall of Beacon, and that Roman and Neo are involved.
    • Following on from the above, The Burning of Rome is this trope full stop. Roman turns himself in to expose Cinder, only for Eggman to hijack the broadcast and reveal her plan as well as the existence of Salem to the entire world.
    • Chapter 237 of Gaiden has Wendy noticing something's off as Waddles has been incredibly weirded out from the clone Mabel that Yukari made so no one would notice the absences of the Princesses of Heart as well as the clones of Stan and Ford which Soos, of course, doesn't notice. Then, when Waddles hides, Yukari shows up through a gap, grabs Waddles and replaces him with a clone who happily tackles Clone Mable prompting Wendy to raise an eyebrow and let out a "Hmmmm…".
  • Wham Line:
    • At the end of DK 64, Raven and Qrow are talking about everything when Raven drops this bombshell.
Raven: When Tabuu invaded the Smash World, everyone during the Brawl Tournament banded together to put a stop to him. Tabuu had sacrificed countless servants in order to encase the world in Subspace. When they destroyed him, it came with a... side effect.
      Qrow: That being?
Raven Remnant was not part of the Smash World...
    • Palutena says this to Yang after their conversation in the Isle of Armor, meaning that Yang still has a lot of work to do:
Palutena: Yang, you should know that I'm a very forgiving goddess. However... it's going to take a lot more than "I'm sorry".
    • During 198, after finishing up the hunt for Remnant's Ultimates, Kyoko puts another name into the computer as a joke, only for it to come up positive and causing her to panic. When she runs off to find the others, the name and talent is revealed.
      Ultimate Neurologist, Yasuke Matsuda
    • In Chapter 1 of Rise of the Mammalians, Futaba is contacted by someone using the screenname EeveeLover. Then, at the end of the conversation, the person declares "You can call me...Cassiopeia."
    • In Chapter 23 of IF, Samus is about to drain Narrator Hades's powers at the end of her group and Hades's fight when the group is restrained by dark tentacles and a trinity armor shows up and then Kai walks up and demands "What the HELL is going on out here!"
  • Wham Shot:
    • Right at the ending of the second chapter of Super RWBY Gaiden, Adam conjures up a ball of fire, indicating that this version of Adam isn't messing around.
    • In the final chapter of RWBY: Isle of Armor, Maya begins explaining to Dante and her friends that something had happened after Summer left after the events of Sunshine. When we cut to Ruby standing at her grave, Summer is standing right behind her.
    • Chapter 75 of Gaiden ends with the reveal that it was Eggman, disguised as SonicFan70, who was secretly working with Futuba to break into Remnant's Network, leading to him discovering a bunch of dirt on Cinder and getting ready to use it against her.
    • Chapter 2 of The Great Cave Offensive ends with Makoto, Sae, and Phoenix going to recruit some detectives, who turn out to be the Chaotix!
    • Chapter 80 of Gaiden ends with Victoria giving Edelgard the Summer Maiden powers.
    • After the events of Super RWBY Galaxy 2: Galactic Conquest Prime, Raven briefly returns to the Branwen Tribe to hand leadership over to Vernal, only to find the entire camp destroyed. A Gaiden chapter then revealed the culprit was Maleficent.
    • In chapter 23 of IF, first there's a mural of Kai that ROB sees and then Kai herself shows up with a trinity armor after restraining the heroes and Narrator Hades with dark tentacles.
  • What If?: Super RWBY IF naturally tackles this in a similar vein to the Marvel show, showing how things would have played out had things gone differently. These include:
    • What if Summer never died?
    • What if Salem found Esdeath?
    • What if someone else killed Dark Ruby?
    • What if Ridley killed Samus?
    • What if Someone else found Ruby?
    • What if Ruby and Pit meet differently?
    • What if Junko won the fight between her and Chiaki?
    • What if an X-Parasite befriended Blake?
    • What if Ibuki went into the fog instead of Sonia?
    • What if Death trained Ruby?
    • What if RWBY fought in Reach? (three-parter)
    • What if Weiss was raised by the Faunus of Menagerie?
    • What if Ruby fought Sapphire?
    • What if Team JNPR went to the Mushroom Kingdom first?
    • What if Dark Ruby had a vision of her fate?
    • What if Xena was shot to another location?
    • What if Peach and Ruby switched bodies?
    • What if Summer never returned?
    • What if Ruby gave up her Phazon?
    • What if Samus kicked Hades' butt? (Crossover with the Sabrinaverse)
    • What if Chiaki was sent somewhere else? (3-parter)
    • What if Bereto was Sothis's vessel?
    • What if Chiaki fought Twilight Chiaki?
    • What if Cinder ran away? (two-parter)
    • What if Olimar fought Dry Bowser?
    • What if Ruby was turned into a Pokémon?
    • What if Maki assassinated Jacques (in many different ways?)
    • What if Yang touched the Chaos Heart?
    • What if Weiss and Dimitri fell in love?
    • What if Twilight Chiaki (Hopefully) Lost?
    • What if Ridley kidnapped Samus and Chell?
    • What if Kokoro was born in Towa City?
    • What if Kaneshiro Was The CEO of WB (And Started an Uprising)?
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Nyx's disgust with Boos goes out of proportion when she snaps at Bow in Paper RWBY. Bow rightfully calls her out on this.
    • Lucario chews out Mewtwo for being rough on Xena, Mewtwo stands his ground, however. This has problems when Healing of the Soul revealed that Mewtwo's training hurt Dark Xena a lot too.
    • Weiss and Blake get after Yang when she insults Neo while she's having a difficult time with Roman not remembering her.
    • General Guy chews out Luigi for suddenly getting cold feet when his brother contracts Bean Fever.
    • Dedede lays into everyone for rebuilding the Cobalt Star that contained Elder Princess Shroob.
    • Ruby screams at her own sister for not being there for her when she needed her the most.
    • After Dino Piranha's defeat, Viridi chews them out for it.
  • What Were You Thinking?: Dedede chews out the heroes for their collective stupidity by asking them this question, once he and the other allies arrive in the Mushroom Kingdom and help the heroes take out Elder Princess Shroob.
    Umber: Y'all are stupid.
Dedede: Now now, Umber... let me handle this. WHAT IN SAM HILL IS WRONG WITH Y'ALL!? DON'T YOU KNOW THAT IF SOME IMPORTANT ITEM BREAKS, IT AIN'T A GOOD IDEA TO REBUILD IT?! IT MIGHT HOLD AN ANCIENT EVIL FOR SAKURAI'S SAKE! IT ALREADY HAPPENED TWICE WITH US! FIRST IT WAS KIRBY BEATING THE SNOT OUT OF ME AT THE FOUNTAIN OF DREAMS AND THEN RELEASING NIGHTMARE INTO THE WORLD AFTER HE PUT THE STAR ROD BACK AND THE SECOND TIME WAS WHEN THE SQUEAKS STOLE KIRBY'S STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE AND THEN RELEASED DARK NEBULA INTO THE WORLD SOMETIME LATER!
Daroach: Technically that was my doing.
Dedede: Yeah! But Kirby had a hand in it after beating the crap out of Meta Knight and leaving the chest exposed!
    Daroach: Fair point.
    Kirby: Poyo.
Dedede: So, again! What were y'all THINKING!? You nearly got the Mushroom Kingdom destroyed and dragged us into your mess after we destroyed Void Termina! We got sucked up in a UFO and had to fight a whole army of Shroobs, including a general!
  • White Flag:
    • Both Gruntilda and K. Rool both waved a white flag after their defeat in RWBY: DK 64.
    • Eggman waves this flag before his defeat in Super RWBY Galaxy's 17th chapter. Unfortunately, it didn't work out so well for him.
  • The Worf Effect: Shin Yang is taken down by Laxus punching her in the head in 3D Land Chapter 1.
  • World of Snark: Oh, absolutely. The amount of characters who don't have a bit of snark in them can be counted on one hand.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Weiss gives Ruby a pep talk at the end of Crown Tundra, saying that she's a lot braver than she thinks.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Due to both Atlas and Argus being destroyed, the survivors are ultimately forced to find new homes. Examples such as the Ace Ops going to Peach's castle and Jaune's sister living in Toad Town with her family being some of them.
  • You Have Researched Breathing: Spoofed in Paper RWBY when a Boo says that the Super Boots allow you to Ground Pound...only for Mario to say he can already do that and demonstrates. The Boo says RPG mechanics make no sense sometimes.
