Miraculous Ninja: Tales of Heroes and Magic is an ongoing crossover fanfic between Miraculous Ladybug and Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja written by EddoTensei that can be found on Archive of Our Own. The fanfic takes place after the series finale of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja and somewhere around Season 4 of Miraculous, with the latter being heavily altered for various reasons.

Synopsis: When a business deal is formed between Gabriel Agreste and Hannibal McFist; Adrien is forced to enter a student exchange program at Norrisville High. Thankfully, Gabriel was willing to let his son invite five of his friends to join him; Marinette, Alya, Nino, Chloe, and Kagami. Meanwhile, Randy learns that a cousin of his will be meeting him and joining him as well in Norrisville High. However, unknown to everyone, Gabriel came to Norrisville to unearth an ancient power hidden in the town. And he's willing to darken as many hearts as he can to get to it.

It can be read here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: As usual, Heidi constantly gets Randy's name wrong despite them knowing each other for years.
    • This time she even gets Kagami's name wrong. Guess the Cunningham family line is something she doesn't bother to remember.
  • Almost Kiss: During their first date at Debby's pancakes, both Randy and Theresa were about to have their first kiss on the lips...only for an announcement from the speakers of the restaurant to ruin their moment and bonk their heads, much to their dismay.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Randy's parents Hotaru and Joseph Cunningham are this to him. Though mostly Joseph as Randy gets embarrassed from his use of outdated slang.
  • And I Must Scream: After performing a Fusion Dance with his Amok, Judge then absorbs all the people he mind-controlled into his Amok. With their souls empowering himself, any damage inflicted on him will also hurt everyone he absorbed as well and they are unconscious to do anything about it.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: McFist manages to get Gabriel to stop trying to get Marinette to give up and go back to Paris after Heidi exposes her more questionable attempts to get closer to Adrien by asking if he really wants the publicity that will come with trying to torment a teenager. Notably, this manages to make Gabriel stutter.
  • Ascended Extra: The author gives major roles to most of the background characters of RC:9GN. Best shown when he gave all the nameless members of the Dancing Fish their own names.
    Green Beret-(Dana)
    Purple bangs-(Shannon)
    Pink Hoodie-(K-Z)
    Blonde Hair-(Carol)
    High Puff-(Molly)
  • Body Horror:
    • Coach Green got the short end of the stick when Theresa as Jeerleader forced his body into a knot. Literally.
    • When Newsflash fires a flash at a person, their face will open up into a book of pages displaying their memories for her to yank out, scan them, and post on her blog.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Due to Chloe's mean attitude, she was unable to socialize with any of the students of Norrisville High. It doesn't help that her actions as Miracle Queen — revealing the secret identities of the other French heroes — gave her a negative reputation throughout Paris, so not even the students she came with wanted to talk to her. However, she was able to find a companion in an individual who she gave the nickname "Noire", who she's able to converse with and talk out her deepest troubles with him. And unknown to Chloe, who also happened to have a somewhat similar experience.
  • Berserker Tears: Chat Noir has these when Jeerleader decks Ladybug, causing him to launch a barrage of attacks with staff which the akumatized villain counters. Chat Noir even went so far as to use Cataclysm to destroy the akumatized object (Jeerleader's staff). Thankfully, Ninja and Rena Rouge managed to push him out of the way before he accidentally touched Jeerleader instead.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Just when Jeerleader had both the Parisian Heroes at her mercy and was about to force them to give her their miraculous (and burn them alive if they turn out to be people who wronged her, which they were). Randy shows up, not as the Ninja, but as himself and with a special present. The sight of her crush was more than enough to stop Jeerleader from carrying on with finishing her incantation, even when Shadow Moth yelled at her to finish the job.
    • Rena Rouge and the Ninja came up with a plan in the nick of time when King Arthurpod was just about to how his insect henchmen rip Ladybug and Chat Noir's limbs and suck their blood dry.
    • Ladybug's Lucky Charm and Rena Rouge's Mirage were able to distract and effectively immobilize Newsflash just as she was about to reveal the Ninja's secret identity.
    • Just when Judge was about to squish the heroes to death, Carapace and Hog Wild, who were inside Judge's large body were able to awaken his trapped prisoners and were able to knock him out of his giant form.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Chapter 17 ends on a sad and somber note. While the heroes may have been able to purify Heidi, the damage has already been done. Heidi revealing Marinette's personal information of her spying on Adrien pretty much labelled the baker girl as a stalker among the students of Norrisville High and Heidi as Newsflash revealing Alya's secret identity as Rena Rouge forced the latter to give up her Miraculous. To top it off, Marinette, albeit with great reluctance, confessed her love to Adrien while all the boy could do was look in disbelief as he was forced to let her down as gently as he could. With the damage caused being irreversible, all Marinette and Alya could do was hope for a better future.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: When fighting Trimaestro, Ninja suggested to Ladybug and Chat Noir that purified might be a better word than de-evilize when they take down the akuma. Both Ladybug and Chat Noir later admit that purify does roll off the tongue better.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Shadow Moth's agenda of akumatizing distraught civilians continues in Norrisville. While people usually act unhinged when akumatized, in Norrisville, it's revealed that the people when akumatized are even crazier and way more brutal. This was best shown when Theresa as Jeerleader decked Ladybug in the face so hard that it resulted in some Nasal Trauma. Marinette even lampshades the brutal nature of Norrisville.
Marinette: This place is a lot more dangerous than Paris, isn't it?
  • Breather Episode: The author also creates some breather episodes in between all the action that mostly revolve around the Parisian teens getting used to living in Norrisville, Randy and Howard getting to better know their peers and new French exchange classmates.
  • Butt-Monkey: Chloe continues to be the victim of many unfortunate incidents from being put under an uncontrollable spell that forces her to shove her new favorite shoes into her mouth to having an allergic swelling reaction after being pricked by cactus spikes and falling in a pile of mud.
  • Call-Back:
    • The story recalls the events of Miracle Queen from Miraculous Ladybug.
    • It also recalls Randy (as the Ninja) throwing the Chaos Pearls into the Sorcerer's prison in the series finale of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja.
    • Marinette recalls giving a magical charm to Xavier Ramier to prevent him from being akumatized into Mr. Pigeon in chapter 7.
    • The Norrisville High Cactus Maze makes a return in chapter 13.
    • When Randy was sulking over First Ninja placing a limiter over his Soul Sensing ability, Ninja Prime brought up the time when he used his Enhanced Senses to try and win the Best Buds food tasting competition. Randy stopped sulking after remembering how that incident turned out.
    • During her interview with Heidi, Marinette brings up the time when she and Adrien participated in the Ultimate Mecha Strike III tournament.
    • While trying to cheer and calm Marinette, Randy brings up the time when Howard got into trouble for trying to bring back cake fries.
    • Marinette brings up the time when Adrien shares an umbrella with her on the day they first met during their conversation in the limo on their way back home.
  • Crossover Relatives: In this fic, Both Randy and Kagami are cousins, due to Hotaru being Tomoe's sister-in-law.
  • Curse Cut Short: Judge when he was about to burn Carapace alive.
Judge: TONIGHT, WE'LL BE HAVING ROASTED TURTLE, YOU WRETCHED DUMBA- (Gets slammed in the guts by Hog Wild's really long arm)
  • Cyber Bullying: After Marinette's stalker actions have been revealed, Lila has now started spreading false anonymous rumours about Marinette doing horrible actions to force the baker girl to leave Norrisville.
  • Darker and Edgier:
    • Chapter 11 of the story is pretty much this.
    • Chapter 22 takes things to a whole new level.
  • The Empath: Randy becomes this after the First Ninja bestows upon him the Ninja Art of Soul Sense. With this, Randy can now sense the emotions, desires, and fears of those around him even when he's not wearing the Ninja suit. The First Ninja, however, placed a limiter on the ability as sensing people imbued with Miraculous power would be too much for the wielder.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • When akumatized as Jeerleader, Theresa only wants to humiliate and hurt people who wronged her in any way. However, she draws the line at outright killing people. This gets subverted when Ladybug, who was still mad about the failed plan to help her with her situation with Adrien, yells at her to mind her own business and Chat Noir doesn't help matters when he continues to bash Jeerleader's head in after she decked Ladybug. Her anger reaching its tipping point, Jeerleader's fire grew even stronger which led to her becoming more Ax-Crazy and for the two Parisian heroes under her mercy and would've killed them after taking their Miraculous if Randy hadn't showed up on time.
    • McFist is a Corrupt Corporate Executive who is trying to destroy the Ninja out of revenge, however he is bemused by how far Gabriel is going to make Marinette's life miserable after her stalker-like actions come to light, and even tries to talk him out of it. It also has shades of Pragmatic Villainy, as he notes that Gabriel continuing to do so will likely come to light and jeopardize his image and put him in the Better Business Conglomerates crosshairs, all over a girl who hasn't done nearly enough to warrant such a retaliation.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: Even when akumatized as Trimaestro, Bucky still makes his usual "zings". Only this time, his humor has become borderline violent as he relishes in the aspect of making Ladybug and Chat Noir's heads explode. This even caught Shadow Moth off guard for a moment.
  • Flaming Hair: Jeerleader gets this after she erupts into a furious rage after hearing Ladybug angrily yell at her.
  • Fusion Dance: Judge performs one with his Amok, by jumping into the molten core of his spider.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • When the group visits the arcade, they learn Chloe is actually a fan of beat-'em-up games.
    • Howard and Heidi are both fans of a series clearly based on My Little Pony, and have regular marathons, which they mutually agree to keep a secret. Howard in particular gives some commentary on the romantic plotline of the show, despite preferring the action scenes. To their surprise, Kagami is also a fan, and starts to join them.
    • Randy is a reasonably talented artist, something his mother encourages.
    • In addition to his knowledge in fashion, Gabriel has some insight into optometry. Due to it being his family business, he has been taught how to scan patients and select glasses for them despite not having a degree.
  • Instrument of Murder: Trimaestro's triangle is capable of creating shockwaves that are implied to be powerful enough to damage a person's eardrums and make their heads explode.
  • Irony: Marinette yells and insults Theresa's love life, saying that whoever she confesses to will reject her on the spot after her attempt to help Marinette confess her feelings to Adrien fails. Cue Theresa getting akumatized, which gave Randy the opportunity to confess his feelings to Theresa, who also happens to be Theresa's crush.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Gabriel is typically portrayed as an overly controlling parent, but his rage at Adrien spending nearly seven hundred dollars on tacky clothes is perfectly justified. Not only was it a waste of money, but the 'small business' he tried to support is actually a national chain worth over a million, and even Adrien's friends agree that his punishment of selling the clothes to pay him back is rather reasonable.
    • While Cecil is a huge shoob, he wasn't wrong when he said that Randy and Howard only worked with Levander just to get access to his band equipment.
  • Jerkass Realization: After Alya admonishes Marinette for her behavior towards Theresa, Marinette realizes what an asshole she was and that she should apologize to Theresa personally instead of hiding behind the mask of Ladybug.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Camson's Jerkass neighbor, Mrs. Burch, gets arrested after it was revealed she was the one responsible for Camson's akumatization.
    • Heidi's attempt to secretly record Marinette and post a video that exposed the latter as a stalker in order to keep her blog relevant didn't turn out as well as she hoped. Her friends cut all ties with her, she loses everyone's respect. And her getting akumatized into Newsflash didn't help matters as her exposing everybody's secrets made everyone dislike her even more. And to top it all off, the blog she was trying to keep relevant is now out of her hands.
    • After Cecil was purified and his crimes came to light, even the laidback Principal Slimovitz was disgusted, so much so that he decided to send the amoral junior to Juvie.
  • MacGuffin: Gabriel's main goal and target throughout the story is to find and get his hands on the Chaos Pearls, the ancient jewels of the Sorcerer that Randy defeated. He hopes that its powers will help him in achieving his goals. He's currently having a secret collaboration with McFist in unearthing them from the school.
  • The Maze: During a session in Gym class, Coach Green has the whole class as well as the French exchange students walk through the cactus maze which he naturally laced with Booby Traps which caused many students to be reluctant to partake. The traps included metal hands slapping people away with yellow gloves to walking a tight rope over a long narrow pool filled with eels.
  • Nasal Trauma: Ladybug receives this after being decked in the face by Jeerleader, much to her horror.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Jeerleader had backed Ladybug and Chat Noir in a corner, surrounding them in a flame circle so hot that the heat can be felt through the indestructible suits and would've lost their miraculouses to Shadow Moth had Randy not shown up on time.
    • Happens again in chapter 14, when King Arthurpod ordered his insect troops to tear Ladybug and Chat Noir limb from limb and have their blood drained. Thankfully Rena Rouge came up with a plan.
    • Again, with Newsflash nearly peaking inside Ninja's head to discover and reveal Randy's secret identity (and by extension, Marinette's secret identity) but Ladybug's Lucky Charm and Rena Rouge's Mirage managed to distract and effectively immobilize her.
  • Never My Fault: Even after she crossed several moral and ethical lines by secretly recording Marinette, Heidi still refuses to accept she did anything wrong. She eventually comes to terms by the end of chapter 17, although a bit too late.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: As the story progresses, the characters discover new abilities in their arsenal. Gabriel discovers that in his Shadow Moth persona, he can not only create amoks but also his akumas can now draw from emotion for power, making them more powerful and destructive the more darkness they hold in their hearts. Marinette discovers another way to put away her Lucky Charms by turning them into normal objects through her yo-yo, and Randy gains the ability to feel and detect emotions.
    • Apparently, Akumatized villains can now fuse with their Amoks.
    • Word of God confirmed that the other Miraculouses will have grant more additional powers other than their signature ability.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Marinette lashing out at Theresa when the baton twirler was only trying to help her and especially at someone who was having self-esteem issues and feelings of worthlessness by saying that she was better off saying nothing and that she had no ideas. All of this led to Theresa's akumatization into Jeerleader. It also doesn't help that upon finding out that Theresa's the one who was akumatized, instead of fixing the situation, she yelled at Jeerleader that she should've just minded her own business, this in turn nearly led to Jeerleader going of the deep end. Marinette gets chewed out by Alya after all's said and done.
    • Chat Noir also doesn't help matters when he starts bashing and attacking Jeerleader after she decked Ladybug, an action that started making her second guess her actions, only for it to be shattered by Chat Noir when the latter started attacking the confused akumatized villain which only made her even angrier. Chat Noir also gets chewed out by Ninja afterward.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • In chapter 13, Nino reveals his hair used to be much longer and curlier. However, in sixth grade, a couple of kids decided to mess it up.
    • In chapter 17, Newsflash revealed that in sixth grade, Morgan had a buttload of zits on her face. People called her "Pizza Face Kranski". Morgan apparently spent two years applying acne cream and ditched fried foods for it to stop.
  • Official Couple: After Randy successfully calms Jeerleader down and confesses his love for her, both Randy and Theresa started dating each other.
  • Oh, Crap!: Several in chapter 22 that it will be hard to list them all.
  • One-Winged Angel: Gabriel discovers due to the large amount of negative energy in Norrisville, the amount of chaos he can create would be much greater compared to Paris and when he akumatized Theresa, discovers that not only can he create amoks in his Shadow Moth form but his akumas now draw from emotion for power. The more darkness one has in their heart, the more powerful and destructive their powers become while obtaining a more powerful form.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: After Theresa was deakumatized and all damage she caused was repaired, Chloe at first shows up again in anger due to Theresa forcing her to stuff her own shoes in her mouth. Due to having a pep talk with Noire, who encouraged it's best to apologize to the baton twirler due to the fact that the person responsible for her akumatization was Marinette, that and by apologizing Theresa may keep Chloe in mind as she wants to be noticed more. So the blonde teen decides to apologize leaving Theresa, Marinette, and Alya in shock.
  • Pest Controller: When Akumatized as King Arthurpod, Camson gains the ability to summon and control hordes of various insects. As well as evolving them into walking talking mutants capable of speech.
  • Playing with Fire: In addition to the power to control people, Jeerleader has the ability to attack and launch attacks with fire, which were only enhanced through her rage.
  • A Rare Sentence: Alya's summation of an...unusual situation involving Chloe and some of the heroes.
Alya: As you can see, the Ninja and Chat Noir seem to be currently pulling balloons out of an upside-down bike to save a rider in need of help! A strange sight, sure, but we've seen stranger before!
  • Running Gag: People constantly mistake Theresa for a cheerleader, even Shadow Moth mistook her for one.
  • Sadist Teacher: While Coach Green claims that he creates extremely violent sports for the sake of better improvement of the students, it's also implied that he enjoys tormenting them with his insane schemes.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper:
    • After defeating Trimaestro, Randy leaves to de-suit. Only to accidentally see Ladybug detransform back into Marinette, much to his shock. When Randy shloomps into the Nomicon and tells First Ninja about this, his predecessor forbids him from telling anyone about this, not even Howard.
    • It turns out Theresa became this for Alya when she found out about the latter being Rena Rouge when she was Jeerleader. This later gets subverted in Chapter 17, when Heidi as Newsflash finds out by peeking in Theresa's head and revealing it to the whole school.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Spoiled Brat: Randy and Howard initially thought Adrien was a shoob when they heard about his rich and famous status but were surprised when they found out he is a nice guy.
    • Debbie accused Adrien of this, believing that his Nice Guy personality is a facade, just to get people to like him. Fortunately, she finds out that it is genuine and accepts that some rich people are not as corrupt.
  • Tempting Fate: Randy does this at the near end of chapter 16 when wondering out loud what's the worst Heidi could do when she gets desperate in order to keep her blog relevant.Turns out, a lot.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Averted. Before taking their Miraculous, King Arthurpod had a mutated and evolved Mantis and Mosquito to keep their heads in place...by separating the rest of their body parts from them and then have the Mosqito to drain them of their blood.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Alya refuses to forgive Heidi for secretly recording Marinette.
  • Villainous Vow: After Jeerleader was deakumatized, Shadow Moth as usual vows revenge. Only this time, he vows revenge against Randy, who managed to calm Jeerleader, and thus stole his "finest hour".
Shadow Moth: (Trembling in anger) Right as I was at my finest hour...right when I was able to whittle them down to nothing...that impudent brat dared to break the spell I had on her! Not even by another hero like Cesaire, but...him! Mark my words, Randy...! YOU WILL RUE THE DAY YOU'VE CROSSED SHADOW MOTH!
  • Time Skip: Due to the fic taking place after the events of series finale of RC9GN, Randy, Howard, and the rest of the students of Norrisville High have now gone a grade up, with them and most of their notable peers being sophomores now.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • After finding out it was Marinette who got Theresa akumatized by telling her she was better off by saying absolutely nothing and that she has no ideas at all, Alya tore her best friend a new one, especially when Theresa was only trying to help her.
    • Ninja gave Chat Noir a brief one when the Parisian hero nearly killed Jeerleader with his Cataclysm.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are:
    • Randy gives this to Jeerleader when she was showing feelings of worthlessness before confessing his love for her.
    • And again during their date, when Theresa was feeling terrible for all the things she did when she was Jeerleader (due to being one of the rare cases when the memories of akumatization were still present with the victim). Randy once again assured her that she was still a strong and genuinely good person and she shouldn't listen to anyone or Shadow Moth who said otherwise.
