Fanfic / Miraculous Ladybug vs. the Forces of Evil

Go To

Marinette: Just once, I'd like to meet new people and learn about their lives. That would make my ordinary life a bit more exciting.
[that same night]
Adrien: I noticed that there appears to be a bit of a repetitive streak.... Just once, I would like a break from this. I wish I could meet new people and share adventures with them.
And so, Adrien and Marinette drifted off to sleep, unaware that in a few hours their lives would change forever.

It's spring Break at Echo Creek High. But instead of just relaxing, Star Butterfly and Marco Diaz want a more interesting spring break by using Star's dimensional scissors to travel for vacation. Namely, to see Paris.

In that city, the defenders Ladybug and Cat Noir feel a bit 'in a rut' with their life fighting Hawk Moth, and secretly confess to their partners the desire for something new in their lives. New people to spice them up.

Little did any of these friends know how their paths would unexpectedly cross, or how they would meet the greatest challenges of their lives in doing so.

Miraculous Ladybug vs. the Forces of Evil begins as just a fun romp through both universes. However, as the fic goes on, it becomes far more dramatic and important than initially assumed, and in doing so pushes all heroes to their limits to stop their worst enemies from winning.

The story is complete. There is an in-progress sequel that crosses over with My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and seems to focus a bit on Chloé's attempts at redemption. It hasn't been updated since September 2, 2017, so it might be a Dead Fic.

Miraculous Ladybug vs. the Forces of Evil provides examples of:

  • Alternate Universe Fic: This fic was conceived when Star vs was on mid-season 2 hiatus. Thus, the fic acknowledges that something happened when Star was trying to recover her family's spell book, but not going into explicit detail. It also reveals that Marco and Jackie broke up sometime before the fic, and that Star still hasn't confessed her feelings to Marco yet.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Whatever Hawkmoth and Ludo do to get an image of Tara. Is it really her? Is she dead and being seen from the afterlife? In a limbo state due to the improper use of the miraculous? Kidnapped and temporarily teleported? It's not really clear.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Marco asking Adrien "Wait, how do you know about the akuma attacks in this city?" is inexplicably treated like this.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: As seen in the quote above, Marinette and Adrien wished they could have something new in their lives. Well they got it, and all the consequences that spring from that.
  • Book Ends: The fanfic begins and ends with a version of the Miraculous Ladybug theme song.
  • Break the Haughty: More so than any other time, Chloé gets this during the story.
  • Brutal Honesty: Chapter 11-Revelations part 1 features quite a bit of this from Chloé, Adrien, Hawk Moth and Alya.
  • Bullying a Dragon: No Chloé, you definitely shouldn't aggravate Star Butterfly after she turned you into a chicken.
  • Call-Back: When Star runs into Chloé while upset, she uses the raincloud spell she used on Marco waaaayyy back in her first episode.
  • The Cameo: Twilight Sparkle, of all characters, makes one in the final chapter, suggesting a sequel.
  • Co-Dragons: Once Hawkmoth and Ludo make their move, they have 2 dragons: Ludo's head minion Buff Toad (no relation to Buff Frog), and Hawkmoth's newest Akuma The Green Eyed Butterfly.
  • Completed Fic: Started in late November 2016, ended in early June 2017.
  • Coupled Couples: Well, Marco, Adrien, Star and Marinette are the leads of this fic. And despite all the world saving, friendship exploring and secrets, the heart of this fic comes down to the 4 of them eventually pairing up among each other.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Ladybug and Cat Noir are meant to fight Akumas. So they run into a LOT more trouble when it comes to fighting Ludo's forces.
  • Crossover: Duh. Though The Cameo hints at a bigger universe to come.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Ladybug and Cat Noir vs Buff Toad. They stood no chance!
  • Darkest Hour: Revelations part 1: Hawk Moth has both Miraculouses, the heroes are all captured, and several of them have their spirits broken.
  • Deconstruction Crossover: Particularly for the Ladybug universe, though Star does get a few darts flung at her too.
  • Evil Gloating: Hawkmoth does a lot of this once he's got his hands on all he's wanted.
  • Evil Virtues: Despite his lust for power, Hawkmoth does have a sense of loyalty and generosity. This is most clearly demonstrated when he gives Ludo a power boost after obtaining both miraculous.
  • Fatal Flaw: Star's unwillingness to be fully honest with Marco to risk making others unhappy. In time, it leaves her open to be akumatized.
    • Marinette's own insecurity about how others see her. Because she held her Secret Identity so secretly, this eventually led to a MAJOR fallout with others when she was unmasked.
  • Freudian Excuse: Why is Chloé so mean and pushy? Well, she was bullied when she was younger, and when her mother left the family over a disagreement, she snapped and swore to stay on top from then on.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: As Hawkmoth and Ludo take over 2 worlds, Marco has Wayzz call up several characters from Star vs. the Forces of Evil to serve as auxillary help. These are Queen Moon, Buff Frog, Flying Princess Pony Head, Janna and Jackie.
  • He's Back!: Ladybug and Cat Noir, at the end of Chapter 15.
  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: This is a big mental block for Marinette in trying to be with Adrian. In fact it takes till near the end of the story before she finally understands that he's all for her when they're cleaning up the love triangles.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Marco attempts to use this on the Green-Eyed Butterfly. Surprisingly, it works.
  • It's Not You, It's Me: Ultimately Marinette has to give this to Marco realizing that now that she knows the truth about Cat Noir and Adrien, she doesn't want to be with him romantically anymore.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Discussed by Marco and Cat Noir regarding how no one was able to guess the heroes' secret identities.
  • Love Dodecahedron: Oh boy. Star Butterfly is crushing on Marco who used to be with Jackie but broke up before the fic. Marco considers Star his best friend, but then Marco got attracted to Ladybug, who's actually Marinette. Marinette's primarily enamored of Adrien. Adrien is Cat Noir who's into Ladybug (not knowing about her being Marinette), but he's also somewhat attracted to Star. Add into that Chloé being possessive of Adrien as her guy, and Marco thinking Star's still into Oskar Greason, and you've got a bit of a tangle of feelings to work through.
  • Love Triangle: No, this isn't contradicting the above. Despite all the tangles, the real heart of the story is a love triangle between Star, Marinette and Marco.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: This applies to the fic as a whole based on how it changes things from the main show, but the real point of no return is Chapter 10 with Hawk Moth succeeding in his goal to get the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses. This in turn leads to several fallings out among the Ladybug cast that shows that this will NEVER go back to how things were before.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Referenced by Star in noticing how similar Ladybug seems to be to Marinette.
  • Plot Parallel: Quite a few are used especially in the romance department. Namely, somehow Marinette and Star's love lives are actually quite similar to each other, and it took Star turning evil and all the consequences of that to force Marinette to confront her feelings.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Surprisingly, Star has this when interacting with Chloé. Despite her normally impervious demeanor to bullies, Star gets so mad at Chloé insulting her that she temporarily turns her into a chicken.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Adrien delivers a brutal one to Chloé in Revelations, Part 1.
Adrien: Stop right there, Chloé Bourgeois. For years I put up with your behavior because I was convinced that you would eventually change your ways. But sadly, I now see that is not the case. Do you know what I see when I look at you? I see a stuck-up, self-absorbed, conceited prick who cares about nobody but herself. You’re not really my friend. You’re just using me to make yourself look good. A true friend is honest, generous, loyal, kind, and always happy to put a smile on someone’s face when they are feeling down. Sadly, you fulfill none of those requirements. And you think you can excuse yourself by saying that your father is the mayor of Paris? Well, get a load of this: your father can’t stay in office forever, so sooner or later, you will have to learn what life is like at the bottom of the food chain. I really had high hopes for you, but you’ve let me down, so consider. Our. Friendship. OVER!!
  • Redeeming Replacement: Marco Diaz ends up serving as one by taking up the mantle of the new Hawkmoth
  • The Reveal: Gabriel isn't Adrien's father. He's actually his uncle.
  • Sequel Hook: The very last chapter features a small cameo from Twilight Sparkle, suggesting another future crossover.
  • Ship Tease: Oh so much! Most of it's among the main characters though near the end, Jackie gives Nathanial a small kiss as a congratulations for working together as good akumas. Something Chloe finds herself unexpectedly jealous about.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Smart Ball: Most of the people in the Miraculous universe can never seem to notice Marinette and Adrien's suspicious behavior or their uncanny resemblance to Ladybug and Cat Noir. But who's the person who finally begins to have serious suspicions and begins to uncover the truth? Star Butterfly. Ms. Idiot Hero.
  • Spanner in the Works: Hawkmoth and Ludo had a plan which would have worked out perfectly. They broke the heroes's spirits, stole their powers, and began their takeover of 2 dimensions. All would have played out perfectly if it hadn't been for the 1 other kwami that was already active: Wayzz.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Two! Although both of them are limited by the user's creativity.
    • First, there's unlimited power hawkmoth. It's all in the title. He should have the power to do ANYTHING, and yet there are small limitations or what have you that keep him from just doing whatever he wants whenever he wants.
    • Secondly, and surprisingly, Super Nathan has this some. While others are technically more powerful by comparison, what he has to work with is creativity. And as such, in the final battle, he manages to turn the tide against 3 of the major villains and is instrumental in getting the miraculous off of Hawkmoth.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: The Green Eyed Butterfly. Think of it as a mix between Punk Star and mewberty star. This is what she looks like when akumatized.
  • Villain Team-Up: Hawk Moth and Ludo join forces to crush their enemies.
  • Villainous Friendship: Despite some mistrust at first, by the 3rd act of the first fic, Hawkmoth and Ludo both seem to appreciate each other for how they helped each other get what each wanted.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 10-Exposed Secrets. The villains put their larger plan into action, kidnapping all the cast of Ladybug and Cat Noir, and ending in the two of them unmasking both Adrien and Marinette.
    • Revelations part 2: The truth behind Gabriel Agreste, Hawkmoth and the Miraculous is revealed.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Alya gives a blistering one to Marinette after finding out she never told her best friend her secret identity.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Following the final battle, Marinette is considering giving up being Ladybug due to all that's happened. Chloe, Alya, and Adrien all reassure her she was chosen for a reason.
