Fanfic / Konosuba: The Adventures of Spider-Ham

Go To

During a battle against the Demon General, Verdia, Kazuma Satou was attacked by the general's cat-like minion with mechanical octopus arms. The cat sicced upon the reincarnated boy a horde of radioactive spiders and radioactive pigs. However to everyone's surprise, instead of being Eaten Alive as they had thought, Kazuma was imbued with the powers of both animals. Now he's a human, a spider and a pig.

Konosuba: The Adventures of Spider-Ham is a crossover series between Konosuba and Spider-Man. It is a What If? story where Kazuma Satou became the Spider-Ham. It is created by PowerCore Productions and part of the second phase of Anime X Marvel series, The Spider-Verse Saga.

This fic contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Thanks to having the powers of Spider-Ham, Kazuma actually lasts longer in fights, even able to survive several of his canon deaths.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In the comics, Howard the Duck is an alien duck humanoid. Here, he is a human that was transported to another world, that got bitten by a cursed duck and transformed into his current state.
  • Birds of a Feather: Interestingly enough, Howard is technically a bird. Both Kazuma and Howard share the circumstances of being transformed into animals.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Morris Miyamora is one of Aqua's reincarnators that seemingly treats the goddess with reverence. Then, it's revealed that Morris joined the Devil King and became one of his Generals, Hydro Man and is helping Hans to destroy Arcanletia while seducing Aqua to steal her power.
  • Blaming the Victim: When Toadman gets called out for one of his toads nearly devouring a child, Toadman sees it as the child's fault.
  • Composite Character:
    • Kazuma is both the Adventurer and the super-hero, Spider-Ham.
    • Verdia would later become Jack O'Lantern following his first defeat by Kazuma and his group.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Kazuma and party learns that Spider-Ham has this called the Power of the Toon though they're not sure what that means. Season 2 reveals it's an Imagination-Based Superpower allowing Kazuma to perform feats that are considered impossible.
  • The Dreaded: The Kingpig is feared figure because of the vast power and influence he has over the city of Axel. Even Megumin, and Darkness to a slight extent, don't dare mess with him.
  • Eaten Alive: Doctorpuss created the radioactive spiders to devour Kazuma and then created the radioactive pigs to feed on the spiders once they're done their task.
  • Enemy Mine: Spider-Ham and gang team up with Doctorpuss to stop the Mobile Destroyer from exploding.
  • Enhanced Punch: Kazuma fires Goddess Requiem, a punch that combines his Toon Force and Aqua's powers, to destroy Hydro Man.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Verdia is honestly disturbed from witnessing Kazuma seemingly killed by Doctor Octopuss's radioactive spiders and pigs.
  • From Bad to Worse: The people of Axel find out that not only the Mobile Destroyer is going to wipe out their city but a figure named Jack O'Lantern is heading there as well to hunt Kazuma.
  • Hated by All: Practically everyone in Axel hates Mary Jane Piglet's fiancée, Paul and Kingpig is only tolerating him for his daughter's sake. However, if Paul does anything to upset his daughter, Kingpig will have Paul "swimming with the fishes".
  • I Owe You My Life: Howard the Duck is grateful to Kazuma for getting him out of prison and he'll repay the kindness by helping him deal with his enormous debt.
  • Like a Son to Me: Kingpig takes a liking to Kazuma, due to both him being a pig and his shrewd attitude. This didn't last long when Kazuma accidentally destroyed one of Kingpig's mansions.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Like in canon, Kazuma transporting the exploding Mobile Destroyer still causes massive damage. In this case, it destroys the Kingpig's mansion.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain:
    • It was because of Doctorpuss's use of radioactive animals that transforms Kazuma into Spider-Ham.
    • Kazuma would not have unlocked Toon Force had Scorpion not threaten one of his friends.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Apparently, this isn't the first time one of Doctorpuss's creations attacked Verdia.
    • Played for Laughs. Both Megumin and Darkness recall the times Kingpig gets rid of people that fails to pay him back. Said payments are actually various food ingredients to a sandwich.
    • Wiz reveals that Doctorpuss tampered with Tritium which backfired horribly incurring the Devil King's wrath upon him.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Wiz knew Doctorpuss back when she served in the Devil King's army and was unconditionally kind and affectionate toward the cat. However, she doesn't understand that Doctorpuss hated that treatment and he planned on killing her.
  • Shout-Out: Several SpongeBob SquarePants references are made in this series, most notable are Kingpig's bar being the Salty Spitoon and Weenie Hut Axel, based on Weenie Hut Jr's.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Verdia did not survive pass the first volume. Here, he got rescued by Doctorpuss and later upgraded to become Jack O'Lantern.
  • Superpower Lottery: Kazuma's Spider-Ham form is this. Sure, it's a cartoon pig but its abilities like Super-Strength and Spider-Senses are nothing to scoffed at.
  • Ungrateful Bastard:
    • Downplayed. Everyone in Axel are deeply grateful to Kazuma/Spider-Ham for his heroic feats but since said feats caused tons of property damage, Kazuma still has to pay for them.
    • Despite having rescued Verdia and then granted him a new form, Doctorpuss is abandoned by his master and left to be killed by the Mobile Destroyer.
    • Doctorpuss had a severe hatred for Wiz despite her being the only one in the Devil King's forces that treated him kindly. Although, Kazuma would later called him out on it, leading the cat to lighten up on the shopkeeper.
  • Vile Villain, Laughable Lackey: Verdia is not purely malicious but he is still a powerful and competent Demon General. Doctorpuss is goofy and inept, similar to that of a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain.
  • Villain Has a Point: Otto Doctorpuss points out that Kazuma is the only one in his party that can actually pose a threat while the rest are just complete idiots. Kazuma can't refute the cat's claims.
