Fanfic / Kingdom Hearts Ψ: The Mistress of Evil

Go To

"What started as an epilogue to a different series that has since blossomed into a series of its own when I had a better idea."

Kingdom Hearts Ψ: The Mistress of Evil is an ongoing Kingdom Hearts fanfiction series by HouseofSannae, picking up five years after the conclusion to Kingdom Hearts Ψ: The Seeker of Darkness.

A series of Interquel fics is also in progress, and will be included here.

This series provides examples of:

The Keybearers of the Destiny Islands
  • Parental Substitute: Sora, Kairi and Riku all ask their partners' respective parent/guardians for their blessing to marry, with Riku also asking Donald and Goofy while Kairi asks Mickey.
  • Running Gag: Almost everyone wants to know if Sora will shave his beard before the wedding.
  • Spit Take: Kairi's father almost does this when Mikoto brings up Sora's beard.
  • Time-Passage Beard: Sora has grown a surfer beard since the first series ended, which almost no one seems to like (or at least tolerate) except Riku and Kairi. Riku suggests that everyone got used to him with a babyface.

    The Keybearers of Twilight Town
  • Drowning His Sorrows: Attempted by Lea, but Gilgamesh refuses to serve him alcohol after hours.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Xion's cat Thomas gives Lea and Isa a look of disgust when they finally clear up their miscommunication.
  • Lampshaded the Obscure Reference: Kairi tells Lea that what they have is failure to communicate. Lea tells her that movie is older than her, and she points out that it's older than him too.
  • Moral Guardian: Xion's college rival Yotsumi is a particularly obnoxious one, to the point of trying to get another student expelled for dating a classmate one year younger than her. Given that the context appears to be that both of the students were girls, Yotsumi's moral outrage may carry a particular flavor of hate, but YMMV.
  • Oblivious to Love: Five years on and Lea is still painfully clueless about Isa liking him back, and he still Cannot Spit It Out. Meanwhile, not only is Isa oblivious to Lea being oblivious, he was under the impression they were already dating, and Lea was just taking things really slow the last five years.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Lea and Isa. In addition to their last five years of miscommunication, Isa tells Lea he's taking a new job and somehow gives him the impression this will mean him moving away from Twilight Town, when he's only commuting as far as the Mysterious Tower and will be back that night.
  • Relationship Upgrade: From Lea's perspective, at least.
  • Waxing Lyrical: When Lea finally explains his misunderstanding about Isa and Subject X:
Lea: Remember when you came out of that coma and told me you'd been looking for a girl for the whole time we were Nobodies?
    Isa: Yes?
Lea: Well… he was a boy, she was a girl… presumably… can I make it any more obvious?

    The Keybearers of Radiant Garden

I Reached into the Sky and Touched a Star

    Through Aqua's Eyes
  • Forced Transformation: Aqua gets turned into a frog by a Handshake of Doom from Dr. Facilier, shortly after he turned Naveen.
  • Love Epiphany: The story opens on Aqua finally admitting to herself and to Terra and Ven that she thinks she has a crush on Vanitas.
  • Opposites Attract: Lampshaded by Terra, in reference to Naveen and Tiana: "So on the one side you had Naveen, who'd never worked a day in his life, and on the other you had Tiana, who was working herself to the bone with no breaks. Does that sound like the start of a romantic comedy to you, Ven, or is it just me?"
  • P.O.V. Sequel: The first chapter has several flashbacks to Aqua and Vanitas's conversations from The Seeker of Darkness, this time through Aqua's eyes. The third chapter does the same with their last meeting in that series, as well as their date in the previous story.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Ventus asks Aqua why she didn't try using Toad after getting her magic back. Aqua irritably admits that she never learned it, and Terra reveals that Aqua refused to let Eraqus teach it to her, insisting that she would never, ever, EVER have a reason to turn into a "gross, icky toad".

    Dearly Beloved
  • Dope Slap: Sora to Riku, telling him that he should stop questioning his own judgement.
  • Mythology Gag: To the actual Kingdom Hearts III, when Kairi and Riku talk about Sora taking on so much responsibility for the wedding:
Kairi: It'd be like if he had to have been involved in every single battle back in the Keyblade Graveyard, or if he ended up saving every one of us no matter what the rest of us were doing. It wouldn't have been fair to us or to him.
Riku: [Fascinating Eyebrow] That's a really specific hypothetical there, Kai.
Kairi: Yeah, no idea why, it's just what came to me.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Vanitas and Aqua finally confess to each other and make it official with The Big Damn Kiss, much to the relief of several other guests.
  • Wedding Episode: Sora, Kairi and Riku finally get married.

    Time to Raise The Curtain
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: The story opens on Aqua and Roxas having been sent on a mission and struggling to find anything to talk about in the Gummi Ship.
  • Laugh Track: Kermit asks Aqua to keep an eye out for their Laugh Track, noting that it seems to be missing this week. Roxas, confused, points out that they have a live Studio Audience. He quickly understands why they need a Laugh Track after meeting Fozzie Bear.
  • Medium Awareness: Statler and Waldorf, commenting on the opening theme song.
Statler: Does the author really think we can pull this off in a text medium?
Waldorf: Medium? With the way they write? We'll need a large!
  • Pushed in Front of the Audience: Immediately after arriving in a new world, Roxas and Aqua find themselves as guests on The Muppet Show. Roxas adjusts much quicker due to his recent theatre experience, while Aqua refuses to participate at first. It turns out the Muppets somehow chose something Roxas had been rehearsing for anyway, namely H.M.S. Pinafore.
  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Aqua and Roxas were sent to visit a retired Keyblade Master who was friends with Yen Sid but had stayed out of the war against Xehanort, who turns out to be Kermit the Frog.
Kermit: I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you fellows with that Xehanort kid. But minding the Hosted Entertainment Neophyte Selective Occluding Network is a full-time responsibility.
