Go To

Kingdom Hearts: Grand Order is a crossover between Kingdom Hearts and Fate/Grand Order by KingSora3.

Plot: You all know the events that lead up to Sora's disappearance from his and his intense battle with Yozora. But what if instead of ending up in the city Quadratum, he ended up in the fabled Clock Tower, meeting the infamous Wizard Marshal. Guided by him, Sora ends up in a world where humanity is on the brink of destruction and must save it with Chaldea's Final Master.

Kingdom Hearts: Grand Order contains examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Elizabeth gives Sora the nickname of "Kitty" after she learns about his Lion form in the Pride Lands.
  • After the End: Thanks to Lev and his unseen "king" the world has been incinerated following the resolution of Singularity F, and human history is vanishing as well with Chaldea temporarily safe in a sustained time paradox, which will fade after a year.
  • Alien Non-Interference Clause: Inverted and Averted. Zelretch tells Sora that Chaldea is already aware of the existence of other worlds, therefore it is not necessary for him to follow the limiting rules of his universe's World Order.
  • All Myths Are True:
    • In this case, it is inverted in the sense that everything that is considered fictional in the Nasuverse is real in the Kingdom Hearts universe.
    • The Nasuverse is filled with nearly every mythological being you could possibly think of, plus a few more. Vampires, werewolves, two different types of ghosts, demons, unicorns, so many more monsters, gods and of course, the incredibly complicated Functional Magic. Fate/stay night has the Holy Grail War, with the Masters summoning Servants that are based on heroes that actually existed.
    • Some Servants take this even a step farther with their Noble Phantasms. A Noble Phantasm is the embodiment of the Servant's fame as an ability or weapon, i.e. the heroic spirit of King Arthur has Excalibur as a Noble Phantasm. Since these are born from the Servant's fame, they aren't limited to things the Servant actually did/had in life. For example, Vlad the Impaler was not actually a vampire but due to the fame of Dracula he has a Noble Phantasm that grants vampiric powers. Likewise, the Berserker in Fate/Zero has several conceptual Noble Phantasms that grant him abilities such as forming illusions and creating improvised weapons, which he never held in life but are derivatives from various myths about Sir Lancelot.
  • All There in the Manual: Several parts of the chapters are excerpts of in-universe documents, and serve to provide setting information.
  • Alternate Self:
    • Comes up in regards to the Merlin of Kingdom Hearts, with Artoria and Fou being surprised to learn that Merlin mentored Sora and how different he is from the Merlin they know. Fate Merlin himself is amused by this, noting that his counterpart is lucky that he (presumably) never met Vivian.
    • Artoria also has a foreboding vision of her Lion King self from the Camelot Singularity. She later has a dream of seeing multiple versions of her.
    • After overhearing Sora's relationship with Vanitas, Archer (EMIYA) briefly speculates on the possibility that he may also have a darker counterpart (hinting at the existence of EMIYA Alter).
    • Everyone is shocked when Sora talks about his Hercules and even shows pictures of him and his friends, since he's completely different from the Nasuverse version. Medusa is especially shocked to learn that Hercules has a version of Pegasus who is not her son and even dated a version of her who was born a gorgon and was never cursed by Athena. In the Nasuverse and mythology, Hercules was born long after Medusa died.
  • Apocalypse How: Just like in the game FGO, Humanity is gone, in the past, present and future all at once with only seven singularities temporarily existing giving the heroes a chance to avert this.
  • Army of The Ages: Chaldea, specifically Ritsuka and Sora, are slowly doing this as the number of Servants they command steadily increases with each Singularity.
  • Artifact of Doom:
    • In Fate/Grand Order, eight Holy Grails end up scattered throughout time at various points in humanity's development in order to screw up the future that need to be claimed to put time back on the right source.
    • The Artifact Of Doom in the Kingdom Hearts franchise is the χ-blade, the legendary blade that is believed to grant control of Kingdom Hearts to anyone who wields it. The Keyblade War that shattered the world into its current state was fought over this thing, and the Keyblades themselves are artificial (and not anywhere near as powerful) imitations of it. The original χ-blade was shattered at the end of the Keyblade War, and Xehanort's ultimate goal was to recreate it in order to rewrite reality itself or remake it.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • In KH III, during the final showdown in the Keyblade Graveyard, Sora is actually killed by a Heartless swarm and finds himself in the Final World, essentially the limbo of the Kingdom Hearts universe. He travels through the world to find his body and return to life.
    • Technically, all Servants are this; Since they have been pseudo-resurrected through summoning ritual magic that brings them temporarily back to the world of the living.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Liars for Kiyohime as usual, with Xehanort earning her utmost contempt and scorn for being the worst liar of them all. She's also not too happy about the idea of lying to protect the World Order.
    • Do *not* insult, threaten and/or harm Sora's friends and allies while in his presence (or any innocent person, for that matter).
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Sora is generally a benevolent, friendly, empathetic and happy-go-lucky person. He's also an interplanetary warrior who's defeated a thousand Heartless in a single fight, has defeated most of the Disney villains (which consists of sorcerers, monsters, undead, djinn, titans and gods) and saved the universe on three occasions from an organization of powerful beings bent on destroying and rewriting the universe. And the moment you dare to harm one of his friends, you will receive the beating of your life.
  • Beyond the Impossible: By the logic of modern magi, and even Heroic Spirits, it's impossible for a human to go head-to-head with a Servant. Sora and his friends do it anyway.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Sora seems to evoke this in both EMIYA and Cu Chulainn.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Sora plays this role to Ritsuka, being the much more experienced warrior of the two despite being a newcomer to Nasuverse. He frequently doles out advice and praise to the young master as needed, helping his progress along immensely and reinforcing his self-confidence. EMIYA and Cu also assume this role towards Sora and Ritsuka.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Sora's reaction to the revelation that Saber (Alter) is King Arthur, who he assumed was a man.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In this case, it's the Servants summoned by Jeanne Alter as she uses a curse that forces them into the Berserker class (leaving them in a perpetual mindset of rage that borders into insanity while increasing their overall stats) and mentally influences them to obey her every command against their will.
  • Broken Pedestal: Olga has the traumatizing experience of realizing that Lev, the person she trusted the most, was directly responsible for the destruction of a good part of Chaldea, the death of most of the staff, and is complicit in the incineration of human history. Worst of all, he remorselessly revealed that he already killed her physical body in reality when she Rayshifted and would've consigned her to a fate that would cause her soul to endure the agonizing pain of infinite deaths, if not for Sora saving her in time.
  • Brought Down to Badass:
    • Sora once again loses most of his power and gear, after his "death" in Kingdom Hearts III. He's still a highly competent fighter with the Keyblade and is more than capable of holding his own against Servants.
    • While some Servants obtain supernatural powers based on the legends surrounding them and the class they are summoned into, others — like Berserker Lancelot — end up being much less powerful than they were even in-life due to their arsenals being restricted by their Servant class and/or incompatible Masters, though they are still enormously powerful supernatural warriors.
  • Chick Magnet: Sora and Ritsuka manage to earn the affection of multiple girls through their kindness, compassion and bravery without even realizing it.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Once Kiyohime is summoned in Chaldea, she latches onto Ritsuka, making Mash jealous. Kiyohime is such a jealous girl that when Sora shows everyone photos of his friends, she gets angry when Ritsuka even looks at the female ones.
  • Clothes Make the Superman: Sora's Formchange transformations in Kingdom Hearts III are a function of the new outfit he receives in the game, enchanted by the Three Good Fairies. Ritsuka wears several Mystic Codes in the forms of outfits to augment his abilities as a Mage and Master.
  • Culture Clash:
    • This is for the Chaldea team about most of the worlds that Sora has visited since it is based on Disney movies, which in turn are inspired by fairy tales, historical events, mythologies and classic literary works. Therefore, the Chaldea team and the Servants are surprised by how different some of them are such as the story of the Little Mermaid having a happier ending or "KH" Merlin's depiction as a Wizard Classic compared to the Pretty Boy his Nasuverse self is.
  • The Determinator: Ritsuka and Sora.
  • The Dreaded: The Heartless for their ability to corrupt and turn others into Heartless and consume entire worlds in the process.
  • Dying as Yourself:
    • Downplayed. Thanks to the Keyblade, Sora is able to free Artoria from her blackened state just in time for her to fade away as Singularity F collapses. However, as a Servant, she is summoned once they return to Chaldea with her previous memories intact.
    • Played straight in the Orleans Singularity when Berserk-Archer (Atalanta) temporarily regains control of herself after Sora reasons with her. Because she is overcome with remorse and self-disgust over the crimes that she's unwillingly committed as a Servant (particularly the murder of innocent children), she makes a false attempt on Sora's life, knowing that it would prompt Artoria and Jeanne to kill her in order to protect him.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Sora certainly thinks so. Because he has witnessed the fate of all those who would recklessly try to harness the power of the Darkness.
  • Exposition Fairy: Romani, Archer/EMIYA and Sora fill this role much of the time, often explaining the situations the team find themselves into and giving them advice or guidance.
  • Foreshadowing: After eavesdropping on Sora and Jeanne's conversation about Jeanne Alter and Vanitas, Archer briefly questions if a darker counterpart of himself exists.
  • Gadgeteer Genius:
    • Other than the Gummi Ships, Chip and Dale also build a computer capable of analyzing Jimminy's journal and the Gummi phone.
    • Most of Da Vinci's inventions and works in life had a cultural and technological impact that has lasted centuries serving as inspiration for the creation of the helicopter, robots, etc. She was also able to reverse-engineer the Replica program conceived by Vexen using the Dolls created by the Ainsworth family as a basis in order to create a new body for Olga.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Jeanne Alter is less than impressed by the moniker of "Dark Jeanne" that Sora and Chaldea give her to differentiate her from her original counterpart.
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: Sora says he doesn't understand why Lev would be so cruel to Olga Marie and join the cause of his "King", why this "King" would want to incinerate humanity, and he's also baffled when he's informed about how cruel magi can be.
  • Hated by All: After hearing of his exploits and goals from Sora, Chaldea finds Xehanort absolutely abhorrent.
  • Historical Gender Flip: As common for Fate. Example: Da Vinci.
  • The Heartless: The eponymous monsters are discussed and show up to cause havoc in Orleans. The Caster variation of Gilles de Rais also becomes one as the Singularity's Final Boss.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The vast majority of Sora's friendships are of the interspecies variety, examples of which are Sora's friendship with Donald, Goofy, Mickey, Hercules, Simba, Woody, Beast, Genie, etc.
  • Jack of All Stats: Compared to Keyblade Wielders like Aqua, Ventus, and Terra, Sora has no particular specialties. He's good at melee combat, good at magic, and has a plethora of special forms and support abilities to help him out. Sora doesn't have the magical finesse and variations of Aqua, Sora's mobility and movement speed aren't quite as good as Ven's, and Terra seems to be more physically powerful. Yet Sora is still good at all of these things; he's just not the best at any of them. The one thing Sora seems to do better than anyone else is attract people to his cause very quickly.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: Unsurprisingly, Jeanne Alter has quite the colorful vocabulary.
  • Mad Scientist:
    • Upon discovering Heartless, Gilles captures several of them to study and experiment on. He even manages to turn wyverns into their Heartless variants.
    • Da Vinci is a benevolent and somewhat comedic variant of this upon hearing about the magi-technology made in Sora's reality, such as the Gummi Ships, Gummiphones, Replicas and she strives to emulate and improve upon their designs.
  • Money Spider: When Sora explains how the Heartless leave behind munny and other useful items, the group suddenly realize that they had picked up a fair bit of it.
  • Morph Weapon: Sora gains the Formchange system in III, allowing him to transform his Keyblade into various weapons like the Lingering Will and No Heart could. Each Keyblade has its own unique transformation, sometimes with a second transformation attached. This later extends to the materialization of new Keyblade transformations that he attains through the bonds that he forges with the Heroic Spirits that he meets both in Chaldea and the Singularities.
  • Mercy Kill: Sora is forced to kill Martha and Boudica in the Orleans Singularity, much to his own sorrowful chagrin.
  • Mundane Utility: Sora makes use of his Blizzard magic for the purpose of making Sea-Salt Ice Cream together with EMIYA and Ritsuka.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • When Olga questions if Sora is a Servant, Sora quickly denies it by stating that he isn't a Magic Ghost. Cu comments that hearing that term applied to Heroic Spirits strangely irritates him as it gives him an odd sense of deja vu and instills a hatred for hedgehogs in him for some reason.
    • Giles's heartless is Demon Bluebeard, named after the fairy tale villain he inspired. It's also the name he gave Ryuunosuke in Fate/Zero.
    • When Ritsuka, Mash, and Romani mention that Disney Castle World sounds like the name of a million-dollar entertainment company, they are indirectly referring to Disney.
  • Nice Guy: As usual, Sora is kind, selfless and a true hero. Ritsuka also shares this trope.
  • Not Quite Dead: Jeanne Alter's heart survives her defeat and makes plans to return by using her bond with Sora and her original self as a conduit.
  • Not So Above It All: After Sora's comical reaction to the reveal of Saber Alter's identity and gender, he questions why she doesn't refer to herself as Queen, to which Saber Alter breaks her usual stoicism out of annoyance to sarcastically ask Sora if he thought people of her time period would willingly follow her as their sovereign if they knew that she was a woman.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Sora realizes that the Heartless are emerging in the Orleans Singularity.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten:
    • Internally, Zelretch expresses some scorn towards Donald and Goofy for leaving Sora at Hollow Bastion to follow Riku because of their orders.
    • Carmilla reproaches Elizabeth over her dream of becoming an idol, believing that she is simply trying to run away from her past as the sadistic murderess that she once was.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield:
    • Everyone is shocked when Sora is able to steal Artoria Alter's Excalibur Morgan, purify it back to the original Excalibur, and wield it. This is likely due to Sora's pure heart and inner light that lets him use the Keyblade.
    • When EMIYA attempts to Trace the Keyblade, it senses that he is not its wielder and prevents him from replicating it.
  • Our Gods Are Different:
    • In origins, personalities, and backstories, the gods of Kingdom Hearts' Greek Pantheon are different from their Nasuverse counterparts. A prominent example of this is that Hercules (Kingdom Hearts) is the son of the gods, Zeus and Hera, while Heracles (Nasuverse) is the son of Zeus and a mortal woman.
  • Precision F-Strike: Jeanne Alter, of course.
  • Power Trio: The three main team members also map to the three classes, with Sora being the Fighter, Ritsuka being the Mage and Mash being the Defender.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: An enraged Sora calls out the Caster version of Gilles de Rais for his hypocrisy over claiming that his grotesque actions were in the name of his love for Jeanne, when it was simply out of his own selfish desire for revenge. He further rebukes Caster for never even attempting to reach out and console Jeanne's parents and siblings through their mourning, instead becoming a crazed serial killer.
  • Rescue Romance: Olga Marie starts blushing while thinking about how Sora saved her from Lev, then acts Tsundere around him, indicating she's starting to fall for him.
  • RPG Mechanics 'Verse: Sort of. Both the Nasuverse and Kingdom Hearts universes share similar videogame-like mechanics, such as the Servants stats and the Random Drop gained from defeating Heartless.
  • Ship Tease: Aside from Kairi, Sora has gotten a fair bit of this so far with both Marie Antoinette and Elizabeth Bathory. Marie even gives him a kiss on the cheek at the end of the Orleans Singularity. It is also hinted that Olga Marie and Jeanne Alter may harbor hidden affections for him. Similarly, Ritsuka also shares several moments with Mash and Kiyohime, the latter of which deems him as her future Master and "husband".
  • Shout-Out: When Olga questions if Sora is a Servant, Sora quickly denies it by stating that he isn't a Magic Ghost. Cu comments that hearing that term applied to Heroic Spirits strangely irritates him as it gives him an odd sense of deja vu and instills a hatred for hedgehogs in him for some reason.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Lev proclaims that the incineration of Human History outside of Chaldea has begun and that their efforts in the Singularity F were worthless, Sora blithely shuts him down by asking him if he's done rambling.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Olga Marie is spared her cruel fate thanks to Sora using the Keyblade to preserve her heart, enabling Da Vinci to create a new body for her, which was inspired by the Replica program from Sora's universe.
    • Thanks to Sora intervening in her Last Stand, Marie avoids sacrificing herself in her battle against Sanson.
  • Spotting the Thread: Sora realizes that Jeanne Alter can't be any version of Jeanne after learning that she killed her parents, coming to the correct conclusion that she's a fake created by a Servant through the power of the Grail.
  • Staring Down Cthulhu: Fafnir, the Ultimate Dragon, is astonished that Ritsuka, a mere mortal and a third-rate Mage, would not only charge at him on horseback but also dare to meet his gaze with a fierce glare of his own, demonstrating his temerity and strength of will. This, combined with the fact that Ritsuka's light is stated to be on par with Sora's, actually impresses Fafnir and earns his respect.
  • Supreme Chef: Sora has become this thanks to his experiences at Le Grande Bistro. Of course, Shirou’s legendary cooking ability extends to EMIYA, his older, more cynical, Servant-ified self from an alternate timeline, as well. There’s a reason why many a Fate/Grand Order fanfics and fancomics treat him as the Chaldea’s resident chef. Shirou/EMIYA also specializes in Japanese food.
  • They Would Cut You Up: Romani and Olga Marie inform Sora that if any modern magi caught wind of Sora's unique abilities, equipment and magic (which is similar in nature to True Magic in the Nasuverse), the Clock Tower wouldn't hesitate to put a Sealing Designation on him and have him captured, killed and his corpse examined for research. Olga also brings up the prospect of female mages hoping to copulate with Sora in order to create a lineage of Keyblade wielders.
  • This Cannot Be!: Artoria Alter, when Sora manages to purify Excalibur Morgan back to its original form and wield it against her.
  • Trapped in Another World: What tips off Sora that he's not in the Kingdom Hearts Universe is the Magician of the Second Magic, Zelretch, and how, despite being an expert in space-time travel, he cannot return Sora to his home universe.
  • Tsundere: Olga Marie, Elizabeth and Jeanne Alter are this, particularly towards Sora.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Archer (EMIYA) and Lancer (Cu Chulainn) are typically this towards each other due to their rivalry and shared history from the Fifth Fuyuki Grail War. Sora idly notes that the competitive nature of their relationship is somewhat reminiscent to his friendship and rivalry with Riku.
  • Waking Up Elsewhere: Sora after his fight against Yozora is awakened by Zelretch in the Clock Tower.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: Cu comments to Emiya and Artoria that Sora's skill and strength would impress Scáthach enough that she would likely attempt to seduce him into bed with her, much to Emiya's amusement and Artoria's embarrassment.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, despite his mastery of the Second Magic, cannot access Sora's universe which exists on the other side of reality from his own.
    • EMIYA is unable to properly trace the Keyblade due to its unique existence being tied to Sora's heart.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Sora's usual magic is derived from his willpower, magical energy, and belief, while his (normal) magic system uses what amounts to True Magic in the Nasuverse, in which most magic users use a method that is combination of science and magical energy known as Magecraft to mimic what True Magic is capable of.
  • Yandere: With a malevolent aura and a gentle smile, Kiyohime makes it perfectly clear that she doesn't approve of her "husband"(aka Ritsuka) admiring other women when he sees Sora's picture of Aphrodite, and that it would be in his ''best'' interest not to look at it anymore...
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are:
    • At one point, Ritsuka believed that Sora would make a more suitable Master than him based on his experience, skills and strength. However, Sora strongly refutes this by pointing out to Ritsuka his success in the previous Singularity in spite of his inexperience and that he would only continue to improve as a Master. Sora also states that Ritsuka's compassion and empathy towards Servants, as he views them as people and companions instead of tools, makes him the best suited for the role of Master.
    • Sora fully supports Elizabeth Bathory's aspiration in becoming an idol as a means of atoning for the terrible deeds that she committed in the past by bringing happiness to others.
  • You Cannot Grasp the True Form: EMIYA can understand the concept and history of a weapon simply by looking at it. However, this doesn't extend to the Keyblade. While he *can* reproduce its physical appearance, he cannot replicate its power and abilities. Since the Keyblade is the physical and conceptual embodiment of its users' Heart/Soul and possess a sentience of their own (making them products of Third Magic, by Nasuverse terms), Archer can't comprehend them the way he can with other weapons and consequently cannot Trace them. EMIYA likens it to a computer trying to process a file and getting an error message every time he remembers the Keyblade.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: This is EMIYA's reaction to Marie's request for him to recreate the recipe of ice cream... that can only be found in a cartoon world.
EMIYA: "You want us. To make ice cream. From a cartoon world. Do I look like I can make a Goofy Parfait, a Donald Fizz, or any of these other crazy ice creams?! They look like something that you would only get at a multi-million dollar amusement park!"
    • Similarly is Romani's reaction to learning that, amongst various other stories, both Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty exist in Sora's universe.
