Set a few years after the film, based mainly on that and the first anime. A sweeping epic, with drama, action, adventure, angst, humour and romance. Original Characters. M for a small amount of mature content. A joke fic that got out of control.
Indebted
is a story in which Edward and Alphonse find themselves chasing the bomb that featured at the beginning of Conqueror of Shamballa that is now in the hands of a nameless, faceless madman in 1920s-1930s Europe. After an unfortunate incident, Edward somehow finds himself flung into the future and washes up on a sleepy, quaint English village beach, and is discovered by two sisters. They end up on an epic adventure tagging along with the wayward impromptu time-traveling alchemist to get him back home and with his brother Alphonse.
Exactly What It Says on the Tin, this was a joke story that eventually grew into the more or less serious 121 chapter beast that it is today. And it’s still not done. Unfortunately, the author has taken time off from the story to complete other unseen/unposted personal projects. However, on occasion, like once in a blue moon, the author will sneak in and drop a new chapter, so it’s not a completely Dead Fic. It’s more like a long hiatus.
Indebted provides examples of:
- Badass Family: Edward and Alphonse, of course. Winry and Pinako could count as such too, being mechanics that have to deal with surgically implanting automail onto patients themselves.
- Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: When Edward first arrives in Gabbie and Anna’s cottage, it completed the trifecta—blonde (Edward), brunette (Anna), and redhead (Gabbie). It gets broken up when the rest of the cast shows up.
- Brainy Brunette: Anna. She becomes Winry’s apprentice later on in automail mechanics.
- Fiery Redhead: Gabbie to a T. She has quite the temper that definitely puts Edward and anyone else that pisses her off on their toes.
- Original Character: Gabbie and her younger sister Anna. Junji is another, but her appearance isn’t until nearly fifty chapters in. She’s helping Envy. Also, Iggy the honking little rat-iguana chimera could count, although YYMV on that one.
- The Silent Bob: Anna. She pretends to be mute due to her abusive father permanently damaging her hearing when she was much younger, although she can speak. But it’s because of her inability to monitor her own volume and pitch that she pretends to be mute along with being actually deaf.
- Wrench Wench: Winry, Winry, Winry. Also, Pinako because she taught her. Anna, who is being taught by Winry, is a budding mechanic. Full circle.
