Hope You Survive the Experience
is a fanfic based on The Loud House by cornholio4. It takes the premise that Lincoln and Lori Lyman are siblings who find themselves moving to the Loud House with the Loud family when their parents gets engaged. They then try to cope and survive their new life with their new step-siblings.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
- Rita is the biological mother of Lori & Lincoln while Lynn Sr is the biological father of the other Loud sisters. They end up becoming a step-family instead of a biological one.
- Due to having grown up with only each other as siblings; Lori and Lincoln are actually much closer with Lori being more protective of Lincoln and Lincoln being more likely to go to Lori for help than any of the Loud sisters.
- They also have a harder time with the Loud sisters; with Lori being downright hostile to the sisters.
- Lori also has little to no respect for Lynn Sr and directly calls him by his name.
- Lincoln & Ronnie Anne are friends from the offset.
- Adaptation Name Change: Lori & Lincoln's surname is Lyman here.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Lori is more hostile to the sisters here due to not growing up with them and thus finding them extremely annoying.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Prior to moving Lori was nicer and more chill compared to canon, due to having only grown up with one younger sibling. She even takes amusement in Lincoln making jokes about her & Bobby's relationship.
- Amicable Exes: Rita is still on good terms with her ex-husband and father of Lincoln & Lori; Larry Lyman but things get tense once he is made aware of what is happening since they moved into the Loud House.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: The Loud Sisters decide that they want to spend time with the Lyman extended family. The first relative they visit? Aunt Ruth.
- Big Sister Instinct: Lori is very protective over Lincoln, outright threatening the Loud sisters if they hurt him or ruin his friendships.
- Blended Family Drama: Lincoln and Lori don't enjoy living at the Loud House, while the Louds do want to become a family with them, but don't understand how exactly they can get the Lyman siblings to like them.
- Hope Spot: Luna and Sam taking Lincoln to a SMOOCH concert causes him to loosen up on the idea of being siblings with the Loud Sisters. Then, Leni, Luna and Luan attempt to meddle in his meet up with Stella, sending him back to square one while causing Lori to hate them even more. Additionally, this also causes Lincoln and Lori's biological father Larry to threaten to take over guardianship if Lynn Sr can't keep his daughters under control.
- Hypocrite: After forcing Lincoln into playing football with her and Lynn Sr, Lynn tells him to use his "boy genes" when he plays poorly. When Lincoln promptly throws the Double Standard back in her face by saying that, by that logic, she should be playing dress up and having a tea party, she gets angry with him.
- I Can't Believe I'm Saying This: Lincoln's reaction to discovering that he's going to have to move into the Loud House is that Aunt Ruth's suddenly doesn't sound so bad and that he never thought he would say that.
- In Spite of a Nail:
- Lori and Bobby are still a couple.
- Luna is still best friends with Sam who is also still her crush.
- Lincoln's friend group is the same only with Ronnie Anne fully added.
- Insult to Rocks: When Clyde hears about life in the Loud House, he mentions it sounds like a zoo, only to then take it back and say zoos are more orderly.
- I Warned You: Luna warned Leni, Luan and Lana that trying to meddle in Lincoln and Stella's meet up would not end well, only tagging along in hopes of keeping everything from becoming a complete disaster. When things do inevitably go wrong, they all get punished and then try to pin things on the others, she responds that she warned them this would happen.
- Jerkass to One: Inverted. In spite of Lori's dislike of the Loud family, she's actually fairly nice to Leni, mostly because her stupidity is, in Lori's mind, the least annoying trait of the Loud Sisters as well as them both being into fashion.
- Never My Fault: The Loud Sisters, sans Luna, all convince themselves that Lincoln and Lori are the reason that the two families are having a hard time learning to live with each other and are hating them completely unfairly, when the truth is that they haven't exactly been giving Lincoln and Lori a lot of reasons to like them, such as constantly disrespecting their boundaries or trying to force them to be something they don't want to be.
- Only Sane Man: Luna is the only member of the Loud family to realize that acting like they normally do is only succeeding in driving Lincoln and Lori away and that if they want them to like them instead of just treating them like roommates, the Louds need to meet them halfway rather than just brute force their way into making Lincoln and Lori like them.
- Papa Wolf: Larry wastes no time in threatening to take Lincoln and Lori away from the Loud House when he discovers how miserable they are there while also threating to strangle Lynn Sr when he hears about how he and Lynn Jr have been treating Lincoln.
- Parental Substitute: Lynn Sr desperately wants to be this for Lincoln and Lori. To them, however, between his pushover nature, him forcing Lincoln into sports, and the fact he's trying to replace their still living father, they don't exactly like his attempts.
- Pushover Parents: Lynn Sr basically lets his daughters do whatever they want and only starts seriously punishing them when Rita and Lori force him, but still lets Lisa off early in spite of her attempting to steal Lincoln's appendix, to the point where Lori is pleasantly surprised that he's punished Luna in the past for coming home late. Averted with Rita, who is more than willing to step up where Lynn Sr failed.
- Related Differently in the Adaptation: Lincoln and Lori are only biologically related to each other and Rita. The other members of the Loud family are their stepfamily.
- Shame If Something Happened: When Larry is telling Lynn Sr about his plan to fight for custody over Lincoln and Lori if he doesn't shape up, he also mentions there will be a high chance of authorities questioning Lynn's parenting over his own daughters if the case goes through.
- Unishment: In an attempt to "punish" them for not letting them spend any time with their extended family, the Loud Sisters decide to force Lori and Lincoln to stay home while they visit Aunt Ruth for the first time. Naturally, Lincoln and Lori have zero issues with that.
- Wanted a Gender-Conforming Child: Both Lynns are disappointed to discover that Lincoln isn't interested in sports.
- You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Rita's unspoken reaction when she discovers that Lynn Sr has never punished Lisa for her invasive science experiments.
- You're Not My Father: All but stated to be Lori's attitude towards Lynn Sr.
