Fifteen year old Michelle Ketros wakes up from a car crash, to find herself in an otherworldly hospital. Specifically, the Halls of Healing in the Jedi Temple. And everybody is convinced that she's just a Jedi Padawan suffering from amnesia after a blow to the head on a mission. How has Michelle ended up in a fictional universe? Can she get home? Should she use her knowledge of Star Wars, or let events play out? And, most of all, who is this other Michelle Ketros that everybody believes her to be?

Displacement is a Star Wars fanfic by Gay Jesus Probably, and serves a deconstruction of the "OC thrown into fictional universe" trope. It currently spans 133k words, and has followed Michelle through to her knighthood, and is currently at the early days of the Clone Wars. The cast is a mix of original characters, between Michelle and the various other Jedi that the other version of her knew, and canon characters, as Michelle settles in to the universe, and attempts to stop Palpatine's plans. The author has divided the story into seven parts, and it's currently between parts three and four.

Displacement provides examples of:

  • Brick Joke: In Part One, a tired Michelle coins the term 'Spacism', to describe racists in space. Twenty chapters and six in-story years later, Michelle brings it back up again, to the confusion of the person talking to her.
  • Dead All Along: Not only was Michelle killed in the car crash, Padawan Ketros died of her head wound. Michelle's soul was tugged into the Star Wars dimension, and out of blind panic ended up possessing the dying body of her alternate self, the trauma leading to her briefly forgetting.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: At the end of Michelle's first confrontation with Palpatine, he finishes by casually threatening her to stay in line, or be killed. Michelle responds by taunting him about how she already knows all of his plans. Ketros is not amused.
Ketros: (to Michelle) "Oh my god, you're gonna die. You're going to die and I'm going to laugh because I fucking called it."
  • Easy Amnesia: As far as most people know, Michelle doesn't remember anything before being hit in the head when she was fifteen. In reality, Michelle is unable to remember anything after the immediate impact of the car crash she was in before switching dimensions. Her memory returns when Ketros reveals that the memories were blocked off due to trauma, and Michelle was actually killed in the crash.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: During the Clone Wars, a surprise attack drags Michelle out of the shower. While she does stop to grab a towel, she only bothers to wrap it around her waist. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold:
    • Ketros's mother is a former prostitute, and Ketros herself was the result of birth control failure.
    • In Interlude Three, Michelle is bailed out of a fight by a prostitute named Phoenix, and spends most of the interlude running around with her.
  • Time Skip: The story skips ahead at various points. Part three especially stands out, skipping ahead several times, and requiring three different sets of character designs.
  • Sarcastic Confession: Michelle gives one to Isaac in Part Three.
Michelle: "I'm an interdimensional hobo that got flung through the multiverse into the body of my dead alternate self, and gained knowledge of the entire future of this universe, as well as the exact date of every major catastrophe, and why it happened. I have been using this knowledge to get laid."
Isaac: "...How the hell did you travel between universes?"
Michelle: "Pole dancing accident. Very traumatic."
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: During the Clone Wars, a surprise attack drags Michelle out of the shower. The entire bridge gets Distracted by the Sexy when she comes in soaking wet and with a Modesty Towel only wrapped around her waist. Evie, in particular, is more distracted by her abs than her toplessness. She isn't at all bothered with all the stares and hurries to join the battle dressed just like that.
  • Ship Tease: Done several times. Michelle and Zinnia are teased for two parts and get together before immediately breaking up for good. Michelle and Phoenix hit it off immediately, and while Phoenix does end up moving to Coruscant, they're just Friends with Benefits. Commander Evie begins to develop a crush on his general, but it seems unlikely to go anywhere due to Michelle's status as a lesbian. At least until the revelation that Evie is a transwoman.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Michelle is initially surprised by Ketros' more athletic build, and describes it with amazement. Later on, Evie describes her torso with the exact same words.
She was athletic. She was ripped. She had a fucking six pack.
    • When informed of their imminent knighthood, both Michelle and Coltin respond by panicking and attempting to convince their respective masters that they're not ready. They both argue that they can't even file taxes. Jedi don't even need to file taxes.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: The preferred tactic of several characters, including Michelle, Anakin, and Clip.
General Michelle Ketros: "THE ONLY CURE FOR THESE EXPLOSIONS IS MORE EXPLOSIONS!"
  • Tempting Fate: Michelle claims that the Council would never trust her with an impressionable teenager. Ozerra Abdalla gets assigned as her padawan two scenes later.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Michelle and Zinnia have sexual tension right off the bat, and are noticeably interested in each other. In Part Two, they briefly get together, and almost immediately break up forever due to various issues.
