Go To

Blossoming Hearts is a Pokémon: The Series and Kingdom Hearts crossover story written by Green_Phantom_Queen, of Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail fame, and Exotos135 of Infinity Train: Boiling Point fame.

One day, Chloe Cerise decides to become proactive and become a Pokémon Trainer. However, her plans are derailed slightly when a pitch black, golden-eyed Absol howls and gets her attention.

And then shortly after getting her Starter, a Sobble, she encounters a similar black, golden-eyed creature that doesn't resemble any Pokémon she's ever seen before.

And then, when it lunges at her, she summons a peculiar item.

A key-shaped sword-like weapon.

As stated by the authors, while this is a Kingdom Hearts crossover, the fanfic will play loose in canon as many of the worlds Chloe enters won't be the ones that have been done in the games and that there are more and more surprises around the corner.

It can be read here.

  • Adapted Out:
    • Chapter 3 has Green Phantom Queen revealed that Dream Eaters won't be in the fic, after a certain revelation about them.Spoilers
    • The Day of the Sorcerers adaptation doesn't show that Merlin was contained with two other sorcerers and Parker fills in for Jun.
  • Adaptation Distillation: In the anime, Goh captured his Scorbunny by going to the Galar region, chasing it for a while and befriending it, learning of its backstory, had Scorbunny follow Goh and nearly be rejected until they worked to stop a Gigantamax Snorlax. In here, he simply gets them as a Starter from Professor Cerise.
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • The anime never really explains why Chloe stays in the Institute if she's never given anything to do. In here, the Professor states it's for her own safety: if she supposedly went out when Heartless suddenly emerged and her Keyblade hadn't been summoned yet, it would've been bad news for everyone involved.
    • Those in-tune with magic can sense Keyblade wielders as Cedric is surprised to see the Cerise family in Enchancia.
  • Adaptational Personality Change:
    • Tobias was more of a Dark Is Not Evil person in the anime, yet he's shown to be more irritable and has a tense relationship with Dawn, given that they are both keeping secrets about each other.
    • Chloe takes a long time to even start thinking about being into Pokémon — as in 31 episodes — whereas Chloe immediately decides to get a starter from her father.
    • Dawn was usually cheerful and optimistic, but she has a snippy side with Tobias and has no time to talk to Goh (albiet more because she has to focus on Heartless attacks in Vermillion while the Cerise family is gone)
  • Adaptational Badass: Naturally, any character who becomes a Keyblade wielder in this story: the Cerise family sans Parker, Tokio, Dawn...
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Chloe was the Tritagonist of Pokémon Journeys, while her family had minor roles except for her father, who was a supporting character. In here, they're all main characters.
    • Tokio was only there for an episode and his major role was explaining why Goh didn't like making new friends. Here, he's also a Keyblade wielder in training and forms a friendship with Chloe.
    • Tobias was Ash's opponent in the Sinnoh League; here he's Dawn's Secret-Keeper about her being a Keyblade wielder.
  • Badass Family: The Cerises with everyone sans Parker having Keyblades and magic.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Both Jimmy Woo and Peter Maximoff are this in Chapter 8, the former stepping into use Blizzard against a Darkside and the latter using his Super-Speed to form a tornado to lift said Darkside into the air to be obliterated by Chloe's fireworks.
  • Cassandra Truth: When Amber and James ask Chloe and Parker about their "kingdom", Parker explains how it's a place by the sea where you capture creatures in balls and fight with them.
  • The Chosen One: Yen Sid had a prophecy about Chloe being a Keyblade wielder but Chapter 3 reveals a bigger one: Chloe is chosen to be a Princess of Heart.
  • Contrived Coincidence:
    • The very same day Chloe decides to get a Starter Pokémon is the very same day the Heartless Absol arrives, thus Chloe gets her Keyblade.
    • In Chapter 2 Chloe notes that she coincidentally met up with Tokio, an old friend of Goh's, who is also a Keyblade wielder.
  • Cool Key: Just like in canon, the Keyblades serve as this. Talia explains that Keyblades are shaped after the desires of their wielders: Talia's is art based because she is an illustrator, Professor Cerise has a technolgoy based one for his research, Chloe's is sea-based because she yearns for adventure and Tokio's is plant themed to go with his Chikorita starter and goal to find Celebi (who is part Grass-type).
  • Darker and Edgier: The adaptation of "Day of the Sorcerers" gets darker when the Heartless get unleashed by Grimtrix.
  • Dark Is Evil: The Heartless as usual, though now its a case of Evil Evolves, since they've started to take the form of Pokémon.
  • Demoted to Extra: Both Ash and Goh, the main focus of Pokémon Journeys, take a back seat to give the Cerise family the time to shine.
  • Disturbed Doves: Ash sees a Pidgey fly away after Chloe proclaims the most terrifying thing imaginable are dad jokes.
  • Dub Name Change: Everyone keeps their dub names except Tokio and Renji.
  • Evil Evolves: As noted by Professor Cerise, not only have the Heartless begun to take the form of Pokémon, they've also grown significantly stronger since the last time he wielded a Keyblade.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Dawn asks Merlin to keep an eye on the Cerise family while in Enchancia, he says he'll agree...before double-taking and realizing what Dawn just said.
  • Fatal Fireworks: Firework magic is one of the many types of magic featured in the story, with Chloe unlocking her use of it by the climax of the Enchancia arc.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: Chloe's main elemental motif is water, and her starter Pokémon is Sobble. And yet the first spell she learns is a fire-based one. Moreover, she gets the Water-type Sobble while Goh gets Fire-type Scorbunny.
  • Foreshadowing: Chloe calling herself a Princess even though she hates the term. Turns out she is a Princess...of Heart.
  • Hand Gagging: Renji does this to Parker when Parker casually greets Yen Sid as "Mr. Wizard".
  • Irony: Of all the days Chloe has to go see Master Yen Sid, it's test day at school...which is the only day Goh ever goes to school.
  • Lampshade Hanging: When Chloe mentions that Wanda is known as "Scarlet Witch", Jimmy questions that she actually has a codename (as she wasn't called that until Episode 8 of WandaVision)
  • Lightning/Fire Juxtaposition: Chloe's main magical tactic is Playing with Fire, while her father is more in line with Shock and Awe.
  • Musical Theme Naming: Three of the Keyblades are named after songs. Chloe's is "Sail Away", a line from "Orinoco Flow" by Enya, Tokio's is named "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper and Professor Cerise's is called "Forward into the Future" from Manian's "Welcome to the Club".
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Noodle Incident: Professor Cerise and Talia have been to the Boiling Isles before and there was an incident with the Bat Queen.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: When Chloe states how she'll kill everyone and then herself should anything happen to her Sobble, Professor Cerise and Renji glare at Chryssa who remarks that she only made Chloe watch Castella 99 once.
  • Secret-Keeper: Tobias and Dawn are one of these to each other: Tobias keeps Dawn's status of Keyblade wielder secret and Dawn makes sure no one knows where Tobias got his Pokémon.
  • Ship Tease: Chloe and Tokio get a lot of this in Chapter 8 which even the author lampshades.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: In Westview, both Wanda and Agnes ask Vision if he's been feeding Sparky (aka the Cerise family Yamper) thunderbolt cookies.
  • Spotting the Thread: In Enchancia, Amber begins to note that something is off about the Cerise family when they state they're from the Vermillion Kingdom...when such a thing doesn't exist. Grimtrix also playing on it causes Parker to accidentally stumble on his words and expose the truth to King Roland and his family.
  • Take That!: When Parker starts reading all about the different worlds, he brings up Atlantica... to which all the adults groan in disgust. Parker even admits that he doesn't like that world for some reason.
  • Tempting Fate: When Heartless appear in Westview, Chloe really hopes that it's not a Large Body. Cue a Darkside towering over her.
  • Visual Pun: Dawn contacts Merlin via book with the pages showing her face. Or a facebook.
  • Wham Line: When Dawn asks Merlin why it's imperative why Chloe should not fall into darkness, Merlin gives this.
Merlin: Because, Chloe has been chosen to become a Princess of Heart.
  • What's Up, King Dude?: When Yen Sid talks to Professor Cerise, the latter is being formal and polite to the wizard. Parker immediately calls him "Mr. Wizard" and introduces himself and Yamper.
  • World of Action Girls: So far most of the Keyblade wielders or anyone associated with them tend to be female (Chloe, her mother, Dawn, Misty, May, and Bonnie) with few males inbetween acting as support.
