Blood Is Thicker Than Bone is a Naruto story found on Fanfiction.net written by Saiyan Warrior 200.
The gist of the story of this, The Uzumaki clan was related to the war like clan The Kaguya and Kushina had a sister who was married and gave birth to Kimimaro, thus making him and Naruto cousins. Naruto also obtains Shikotsumyaku, Dead Bone Pulse as well gaining the use of it when facing Mizuki. After learning it, Sarutobi sends for Kimimaro to come to Konoha and train him in the use of it as well as the two last of their clans meet one another. However, Kimimaro is loyal to Orochimaru and there's also that illness of his that he has that is weakening him each day.

Tropes in Blood is Thicker Than Bone include:
- Abusive Parents: Kimimaro's father was shown to be this, often berating his son and beating him.
- It gets worse when it implies that he made Kimimaro kill someone when he was just fours old and was shown shoving eight year old Kimimaro into a cell and locking it.
- A Day in the Limelight: This gives Kimimaro a lot more development and focus.
- Affectionate Nickname: Kimimaro until Naruto actually improves and becomes a worthy ninja gives him a nickname. The nick name? Trash
- Arranged Marriage: Hiashi tries to do this and have Naruto be forced to marry one of the Hyuga females from the Branch Family and create a ninja with both Byakugan and Shikostumyaku. It doesn't work
- The Uzumakis and Kaguyas also practiced this. To ensure alliances between them.
- Ascended Extra: Raiga Kurosuki goes from a filler villain to one of Orochimaru's men.
- Haku and The Sound Trio also survive their canon fates.
- Berserk Button: Do not...I repeat DO NOT ever insult Naruto's mother in front of him. Mizuki found this out the hard way
- Deconstructed however when Orochimaru knowlingly brings up Kushina's death to make Naruto snap and attack wildly and without focus due to his rage making him able to easily break his arm.
- Ranmaru is Raiga's when he dies sacrificing himself to take a hit meant for Raiga he goes berserk and loses all reason and goes wild in his attacks
- Big Damn Heroes: Done by Tayuya and Anko, Rock Lee, and Kimimaro during The Sasuke Mission
- Blood Knight: The Kaguya are stated to be like this and the reason why fighting comes so natural to them.
- Bullying a Dragon: A group of bullies and Academy dropouts do this to Naruto after months of him training with Kimimaro. It goes as well as you can expect. Earlier some men hassle Kimimaro trying to make him pay in exchage for transportation. It also goes as well as you can expect but unlike Naruto above he kills them.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Jiraiya does this once pointing at the screen of the readers, and Naruto looks ahead wondering who he's talking to as he doesn't see anyone.
- Broken Bird:
- Jiraiya calls Tsunade this in one chapter, that her attitude towards everything since Dan and Nawaki died has caused her to a bitter outlook. She gets better
- Ayako, Kimimaro's mother shows signs of this. Wed to a man in an arranged marriage that did not love her, forced to see her child be forced to kill and abused by his father. Led to believe said child dies and when discovered after the slaughter of the Kaguyas by an elderly couple, she's stated to have no life in her eyes believing that her son is dead and speaks only in a whisper that you have to strain to hear her
- Can't Catch Up: Naruto fights against Orochimaru and winds up being beaten badly by him and with a broken wrist and coming close to dying. Even though he's got one of the rarest and most powerful Kekkai Genkai and The Kyuubi. He's still just a rookie genin who's only been training a year against one of the strongest and most dangerous ninjas who ever existed.
- Chekhov's Gun: Naruto is shown prior to the Chunin Exams to be buying a Bow and Arrow and oil and a lighter. This is what helps him destroy Kankuro's puppet
- Co-Dragons: Kabuto and Raiga. Later on Raiga is killed by Kimimaro and so Kabuto is left back as The Dragon
- Cruel Mercy: Kin does this to the man who's responsible for the life she has lead. She knows killing him won't bring her mother back but seeing as how he's a shell of a man he once was, she wants him to live and continue wallowing in his misery.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Kimimaro and Naruto's first fight is stated to be this, Kimimaro having beaten him twice in thirty seconds and knocking him out.
- When Orochimaru manages to find a way to restore his arms, he delivers one to Naruto, Anko, Kakashi, Tayuya and Kimimaro
- Dare To Be Bad Ass: Jiraiya gives this to Naruto after his fight with Orochimaru, telling him he wants Naruto to become even stronger than him, Sarutobi, and The Yondaime.
- Deadly Euphemism: Naruto suggests neutering Sasuke during the mission once they find him as a way to tone down his attitude. Akamaru who is with them lets out a whimper upon hearing it.
- Deadly Upgrade: Kimimaro activates The Cursed Seal Level 2 form to battle Shukaku, knowing full well he'll likely die if he does.
- Death Seeker: Zabuza is shown and implied to be this.
- When Ranmaru dies Raiga doesn't care about anything else. Gaara notes that his heart is broken beyond repair and death is the only thing left for him.
- Died in Your Arms Tonight: This happens between Sarutobi and Jiraiya
- Enemy Mine: Kimimaro, Tayuya, and Anko are put on a team to one of Orochimaru's bases and while they don't like one another. They hate Orochimaru for what he did to them more.
- Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas:
- Kimimaro was deeply attached to his mother (Kushina's sister and Naruto's Aunt) who was the only person in the Kaguya clan who showed him kindness even when he was locked up she visited him often and forced him to flee at the Battle with Mist while the rest of the clan were killed off so that he would live.
- Kin Tsuchi is a Bad Girl who Loves her Mama.
- Every Man Has His Price: Kakashi bribes a man into letting them in during a mission and tells Naruto that a weak man can be bought.
- Easily Forgiven: Averted, Naruto has not forgiven Tayuya for what she did, working for Orochimaru and telling him where Kimimaro was at. During the Search for Tsunade he doesn't talk to her unless he has too and calls her out on what she did.
- Face of a Thug: Toshihiro, a Sound Nin and one of the few friends Kimimaro has, is noted as scarred and wears a bison mask over his face, but is gentle and only fights when he has to.
- For Want Of A Nail: Since Kimimaro became ill, Orochimaru hires Raiga Kurosuki and his men as additional reinforcements. Since Haku survived and was forced to serve Raiga, and discovered what Orochimaru was planning. He was able to Get The Sound Trio out of there and stop them from being sacrificed Also, Tayuya is captured as well during the Invasion when Jiraiya intervenes and breaks the Jutsu surrounding Sarutobi
- Heel–Face Turn:
- Kimimaro during the attack
- Tayuya does this as well, not cause she felt what was happening was wrong, it was because she didn't take too kindly to being left behind when she was abandoned at Konoha.
- Eventually, all of Otogakure joins the Leaf, when after Orochimaru abandons them, Kakashi after the last remnants are defeated, offers them to join Konoha so long as they swear loyalty to them
- Jerkass Has a Point: When Sasuke leaves to join Orochimaru, Naruto refuses to go get him and actually says to let him leave. This may sound selfish but Naruto has gotten tired of Sasuke's actions and attitude and how he's cause trouble for everyone else and when asked if they can think of anything positive about Sasuke, he doesn't get a response.
- If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!: When inflitrating in disguise into a training ground near Wave for Sound Ninjas. Naruto is ordered by Kidomaru to kill Inari who was caught snooping around. Naruto gives up the charade and fights his way out.
- Incurable Cough of Death: Kimimaro showcases this at times, at times coughing roughly to hacking and coughing up blood as the story goes on. He is eventaully healed by Tsunade
- Insane Troll Logic: The Raikage in chapter 39 is convinced that the entire battle and incident with Sound is nothing more than a ploy by Konoha to gain more land even going so far as to claim The Sandaime is still alive and that Orochimaru is a Double Agent who's purposely weakening other countries from the inside. Tsunade wonders if the dumbbells he exercises with is affecting his brain
- In Spite of a Nail: Despite the above, Sarutobi still dies in the attack.
- Last of His Kind: Kimimaro is the last of The Kaguyas, whilst Naruto is the last of the Uzumaki.
- Averted in Naruto's case later on, with Ayako Uzumaki, his aunt and Kushina's sister
- Mask of Power: Orochimaru obtains a mask worn by the fabled Samurai Tadakatsu Honda which not only prevents harm from befalling you but can restore any damaged wounds such as the loss of limbs.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": The reaction when Orochimaru regains his arms
- Minor Injury Overreaction: When Kimimaro manages to get past and nick Gaara just enough to leave a cut of blood, that's when Gaara unleashes Shukaku.
- Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Being abandoned and ditched by the others leads to Tayuya joining Konoha in exchange for giving information about Orochimaru's plans and bases.
- Mythology Gag: For those who know their history, Tadakatsu Honda fought in over a hundred battles and emerged unharmed from each one. Here it is revealed he wore a special mask that prevented him from being harmed.
- Never Smile at a Crocodile: Anko is attacked by one, she yells at it to go bother Captain Hook
- "Not So Different" Remark: Tsunade puts Anko, Kimimaro, and Tayuya together despite them wanting to kill each other at first due to them all having been manipulated and used by Orochimaru.
- Not Worth Killing: What Kin does above.
- Naruto decides that Sasuke isn't worth fighting or killing either.
- Oh, Crap!: Neji when he discovers during his fight with Naruto after hitting him with The Sixty Four Trigram and Naruto gets back up no worse for wear that his moves will NOT work whatsoever on Naruto due to his hardened skeleton he possesses protecting him from his blows and rendering them ineffective.
- One-Man Army: Kimimaro before his sickness weakens him considerably was shown to be this, effortlessly taking out an army of Gato's thugs without breaking a sweat.
- Panthera Awesome: Kimimaro has a Panther summon
- Priceless Ming Vase: During a battle against Sound Ninjas in a Museum. Naruto asks Kakashi if a giant statue of an Oni their hiding behind is valuable. When told its a replica, Naruto creates dozens of clones and pushes it over onto them.
- Related in the Adaptation: Kushina and Naruto are Kimimaro's aunt and first cousin respectively, whereas in canon where they're at best distant relatives..
- Run the Gauntlet: The Team on The Retrieval Arc (Naruto, Kiba, Neji, Shikamaru, Choji) has to face off against hundreds of Sound Nins as well as Kurosuki members, The Sound Four, and Raiga Kurosuki himself. But the time they catch up to Sasuke, it's just Naruto himself as the others sacrifice themselves to let the others go ahead.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Haku and the Sound Trio the night before the Attack
- Shout-Out: When Kakashi tells Naruto that he has to bring Sasuke and he really doesn't want to we get this.
- Naruto: (while stomping his foot) See what you're doing! You're making me stomp grass!
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: Naruto does this to Neji during their fight.
- Super Drowning Skills: A setback of Shikotsumyaku, due to the bone density and their bodies being heavier, they have trouble swimming and when Naruto is knocked into water he almost drowns.
- Take That!: The Clan Restoration Act, which can be seen or referenced in most fanfics is revealed to have been outlawed in Konoha after The Second Shinobi War and while in some places it still exists, most see the practice as outdated and looked down upon
- The Dog Bites Back: Kimimaro, Tayuya, Haku, and The Sound Trio all leave Orochimaru after what he's done to him and finding out what he's planning on doing.
- This is in part of the reason why Tsunade puts Anko with Kimimaro and Tayuya, they all have been used and discarded by Orochimaru.
- Taking the Bullet: During Kimimaro's fight with Raiga Kurosuki, Ranmaru throws himself in front of Kimimaro's throwing knives.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Naruto delivers a harsh one to The Clan Heads and Council members such as Danzo calling them out on their Kekkai Genkai and special abilities that have gained them power and prestige when they criticize him for having hidden his own.
- He also delivers one to Sasuke calling him out over already getting the best training after Sasuke tells him he wants Kimimaro to train him as well after finding out how much Naruto has improved.
- He gives another one to Sasuke again at The Valley of the End where he refuses to fight him and instead leaves heading back to Konoha but not before telling Sasuke of all the things he had done and took for granted and the people he hurt and endangered because of his actions.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: This happens to Naruto shortly after he reveals Shikotsumyaku to the others, becoming colder and uncaring afterwards. It isn't until Kakashi talks to him and he trains under both Jiraiya and Kimimaro that he gets better and returns to his usual self.
- Tranquil Fury: When Orochimaru finds out what Kimimaro has been doing, he is less then pleased but barely raises his voice above calm when he confronts him. And by confront I mean beat him.
- Wham Line: "My son is alive." Spoken by Ayako Uzumaki, sister of Kushina and Mother of Kimimaro.
- When She Smiles: Ayako smiles for the first time in years and her eyes have life in them when she senses that Kimimaro is alive
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Orochimaru does this to Sound as a whole after Sasuke comes to him as he abandons The Land of Sound as he moves his base of operations to an unknown location.
- Your Days Are Numbered: As the story progresses, Kimimaro gets sicker and weaker from the illness that is inside his body and Tsunade is his only hope.
