Go To

A Place in My Dreams is a Sword Art Online and Campione! crossover by SeerKing. In it, Kayaba and the Heretic God Morpheus were allies, and by killing Kayaba's avatar in the game, Kirito killed the deity at the same time. And, of course, we all know what happens when someone kills a god in the Campione universe...

This work contains examples of:

  • Adapted Out: The Alfheim arc, at least in its canon form, is completely omitted due to Akihiko preventing Sugou from hijacking any of the players he canonically trapped in Alfheim Online and exposing his crimes to the world.
  • Arranged Marriage: Silica/Keiko is nearly forced into one by a member of the Renjō family via an omiai. She escapes this by swearing allegiance to Kirito, who is very unhappy to learn what his friend was put through.
  • Beyond the Impossible: When Kirito's life drops to 0, he pushes against the process with his Heroic Willpower, causing Kayaba to go This Cannot Be! and shocking everyone watching - and then not only completes The Eclipse, but extends the combo well beyond the limit, not stopping until Kayaba dies.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Campiones tend to think differently than normal humans, with a penchant for dominating normal humans. Kirito is distressed to realize he won't be able to skip this part.
  • Brutish Bulls: Other mages manipulate Sakura into using a grimoire to summon one of the Khalkotauroi to attack Kazuto/Kirito to test if he's really a Campione.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Tomo's blonde hair and brown eyes come from her father, a Russian expatriate mage who married into the Hosaka family.
  • Calling Your Attacks: To Kirito's annoyance, he has to call out his Sword Skills in order to use them when he is using the Authority that transforms him into his Sword Art Online Avatar.
  • Chick Magnet: Kazuto, as per canon. Tomo lampshades this when Keiko quickly swears herself to him.
  • Composite Character: As standard for Campione, Kayaba's One-Winged Angel form is a fusion of the Oneiroi.
  • Determinator: Not even hitting HP 0 (which is an instant killer in Aincrad) keeps Kirito from beating Kayaba/Morpheus to death.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: [Dream a Dream Of The Future], one half of the Authority Kirito got from Morpheus, allows him to get visions of events up to a week into the future.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Even though they had faithfully worked for the Sayanomiya Clan for centuries as the best spies in all of Japan, the Hosaka Clan found itself barred from requesting for support from the Sayanomiya Clan.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Kirito is already a skilled swordsman in canon, but here he becomes a Campione on top of that.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kayaba exposes Sugou's crimes after the latter tries to hijack a number of the SAO players like in canon.
  • The Glomp: Asuna gives Argo/Tomo a bear hug when they meet in real life.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: Sayanomiya Eisuke, head of the Sayanomiya Clan back during the Warring States Era, was incredibly misogynist, to the point that he ordered that all of his successors would swear an oath to follow instructions to reduce the Hosaka Family to nothing, just because the latter were a matriarchal and matrilineal family.
  • Henshin Hero: One of Kirito's Authorities works by transforming him into his Sword Art Online Avatar, weapons and all. This allows him to use Sword Skills in real life. A following chapter reveals that it's called [Avatar of Dreams], and allows him to manifest a strong mental image of himself (a dream) into reality like armor, and it's capable of bringing any form he can sufficiently imagine into reality too, like avatars from other games.
  • Last of Her Kind: Argo/Tomo Hosaka is the last living member of the Hosaka family, due to how the family has been sidelined and ignored in the past four centuries by the Sayanomiya Clan.
  • Noodle Incident: Ten years prior to the start of the story, something happened that caused five of the seven living Campione to be sent to parallel worlds and placed a sixth in a coma. The seventh is trying to find the other five.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Asuna's brother notes that, despite their many differences, one key trait both she and their mother share is that once they make up their minds on something it will take a herd of wild elephants to make them reconsider.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Sayanomiya Kaoru is having problems with getting the journals of her predecessors because the librarians refuse to choose a new Head Librarian, who is the only person with the authority to undo the seals on said journals.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Argo cheekily reminds Kirito and Asuna of the "Materialize All Items" incident. Kirito "thanks" her for putting him in the doghouse over something that happened before he and Asuna started to date.
  • One-Winged Angel: In classic video game boss fashion, Kayaba transforms into Morpheus during his fight with Kirito. He even lampshades it before revealing his alternate form, which is supposed to be an amalgam of the Oneirois.
  • Polyamory: The story summary spoils the fact that, eventually, Kirito will have a harem. As of the first chapter, however, his only paramour is Asuna. The History Compilation Committee thinks that the next girl to join the group will be Tomo/Argo. Silica/Keiko appears to be ready to become the third girl in the harem.
  • Power at a Price: The other half of the Authority Kirito got from Morpheus allows him to receive visions from up to a week into the future in his dreams, or even talk to a dream-facsimile of someone that's perfectly accurate, but once he uses it, he's effectively in a coma that he can't be woken from until exactly eight hours have passed.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Sayanomiya Kaoru receives Tomo with all due respect, acknowledges the points she makes and promises to both redress all the wrongs done to Tomo's and Keiko's families and investigate how they came to be.
  • Science Fantasy: The story is a fusion between the 20 Minutes into the Future Sword Art Online setting and the urban fantasy setting of Campione, so this trope is a given.
  • Sneeze Cut: A scene transition goes from Asuna thinking about Kirito, to Kirito sneezing as he dodges the Khalkotauroi. He lampshades this of course.
  • Support Party Member: Keiko's magical power as a Hime-Miko is [Divine Servitude], which amplifies the powers of who she's using it on, but gives her no actual power of her own. This has led to people in the HCC treating her as little more than a commodity to be "requisitioned" at will, despite the fact that due to the potential strain their powers can put on their minds and bodies, Hime-Miko are supposed to be highly compensated for their services under the HCC's rules.
  • Symbiotic Possession: Morpheus enters Kayaba's dreams, aiding the programmer in developing both Sword Art Online and the technology required for it. Once Kayaba realizes Morpheus was there, mortal and god quickly become mutual partners.
  • Top Wife: Asuna is considered by everyone in the know as Kirito's "wife", as opposed to Argo's "mistress".
  • Twitchy Eye: An eye twitch is the only outward sign of Kirito's anger when he hears how some of the HCC have been mistreating Keiko.
  • Undignified Death: Sayanomiya Kaoru's grandfather and predecessor as head of the Sayanomiya clan died by choking on a fish bone.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Sayanomiya Eisuke, Head of the Sayanomiya Clan during the Warring States Era, ignored the Hosaka Clan's legitimate requests for aid and redress and left orders for any of his successors to do the same, in spite of the Hosaka being the best spies in the Sayanomiya's service, just because the Hosaka Clan was led by women.
  • Worth It: Both Kayaba and Morpheus consider all the lives and time the players lost a 'necessary sacrifice', because it allowed both of them to achieve their dreams, which was to rule over a world that surpassed reality, and they consider the two years they spent in SAO irreplaceable.
