A fanfiction by Gullfriend31 about Doki Doki Pretty Cure Raquel's past with his abusive father, Percival. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

A Diamond Under Pressure Provides Examples Of:

  • Abusive Parents: Percival does not respect his son Raquel's feminine traits and misgenders him because of it. He even disowns him in the end.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Raquel is revealed to be transgender, saying he's Percival's son "now" and not his daughter "anymore".
  • Adopting the Abused: It's revealed that Raquel has an abusive father named Percival who tries to force him to be more conventionally masculine. When Raquel finally stands up to him, Percival disowns him and then kicks him out of the house. Raquel goes to Sharuru's house and tells Sharuru and her mother Leverett about his dilemma. Feeling terrible for him, Leverett decides to adopt him. He's all too happy to call her his new adopted mother.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Raquel is called Raq by Lance and Sahruru.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Sharuru asks Raquel if he's really content being in tight clothes. This gets him to admit he's unsatisfied with dressing this way and only did it to please Percival, who wants him to be manlier.
  • Be Yourself: Raquel learns he doesn't have to wear a fake beard, a tight necktie, and a jacket just because his father says so. Lance and Sharuru teach him he's not less of a man if he wants to be in touch with his feminine side.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Raquel tears Percival a new one for forcing him to not be himself.
  • I Have No Son!: After Raquel makes it clear he won't be swayed by Percy's toxic masculinity anymore, Percy throws his son out, telling him he's not a son nor a daughter to him anymore.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Raquels love of fashion and wearing bows is the reason his father misgenders him.
  • Happily Adopted: Raquel is adopted by Leverett at the end of the story after he is disowned by Percival.
  • Men Don't Cry: Percival sees Raquel's tears and scolds him for being "weak" by crying.
  • Missing Mom: It's briefly mentioned near the end Raquel hasn't felt a maternal hug since his mom passed away.
  • No, You: A rare non comedic version. Percival tells Raquel to listen to him, but Raquel says "No, you listen to me!".
  • Real Men Hate Affection: Raquel mentions being hugged by his friends which angers Percival due to him feeling this makes his son a wimp.
  • Wanted a Gender-Conforming Child: Raquel reveals he only wore traditional masculine clothes because Percival told him he has to earn his status of a man by acting like one.
  • Wham Line: Raquel says he wants to be a man and when Lance says he already is, Raquel says his father doesn't feel the same way. This reveals why he's been wearing clothes that he hates, because he's forced to.
