- Adaptational Gender Identity: Raquel is revealed to be transgender, saying he's Percival's son "now" and not his daughter "anymore".
- Adopting the Abused: It's revealed that Raquel has an abusive father named Percival who tries to force him to be more conventionally masculine. When Raquel finally stands up to him, Percival disowns him and then kicks him out of the house. Raquel goes to Sharuru's house and tells Sharuru and her mother Leverett about his dilemma. Feeling terrible for him, Leverett decides to adopt him. He's all too happy to call her his new adopted mother.
- Affectionate Nickname: Raquel is called Raq by Lance and Sahruru.
- Armor-Piercing Question: Sharuru asks Raquel if he's really content being in tight clothes. This gets him to admit he's unsatisfied with dressing this way and only did it to please Percival, who wants him to be manlier.
- Be Yourself: Raquel learns he doesn't have to wear a fake beard, a tight necktie, and a jacket just because his father says so. Lance and Sharuru teach him he's not less of a man if he wants to be in touch with his feminine side.

- Wanted a Gender-Conforming Child: Raquel reveals he only wore traditional masculine clothes because Percival told him he has to earn his status of a man by acting like one.
- Wham Line: Raquel says he wants to be a man and when Lance says he already is, Raquel says his father doesn't feel the same way. This reveals why he's been wearing clothes that he hates, because he's forced to.
